    Put vinyl in your bolt holes first then wrap over top, this will seal it so you don’t end up bits working itself off.
    With the tank work from the centre outwards, you have a second person to help so you can hold the vinyl off and heat until it pulls itself smooth and then pull down over the tank, do this slowly working around the tank and you should be golden 👍

    • @ChaosCauses
      @ChaosCauses  Před 6 lety +1

      I learned to do the bolt holes first after the first piece and it made it a lot easier! If I ever wrap another tank I’ll definitely try this!

    • @holycrapitsthisguy4415
      @holycrapitsthisguy4415 Před 3 lety

      I assume you mean putting small bits of vinyl on the underside of the fairings where the bolts holes are, then be wrapped over top sealing the two vinyl wraps together to themselves? Allowing the undercarriage wrap pieces to help hold the top from fraying/ pulling up? Sorry, confused on your exact phrasing

    That was impressive work there. I’ve only wrapped the back of the tailgate on my old car and used knifeless tape to get a good line, but watching this gave me some confidence to try it on my bike’s tank now.
    If you didn’t say that was a wrap, I never would’ve guessed!

    pro tip for the tape, if you are doing a stripe you can lay down one line of tape on both sides of the stripe you want to do and then do the side and top vinyl at the same time, peel up the tape and your joins will be really flush, did that on my bike and it came out great. Nice work!

    • @turtlepowersf
      @turtlepowersf Před 4 lety

      How has it worked in the long term? I want racing stripes but I'm worried that it won't last as long as 1 piece, with the stripes having edges and all.

    This is awesome. That scheme really suits the R1and you did a fantastic job. Honestly I've never wrapped a bike - I re-sprayed my Yammy FZR250 when I did it up, I wanted flake in the paint now you can get wrap like that I think. I wrapped some dashboard bits in my car well over 7 years ago and they still look great, wrapped a few bits now and then, some experience but I am no pro. This might inspire me to wrap my mrs motorbike - Suzuki GZ cruiser which will be easier - no fairings. Patience and time = best advice for wrapping. Some heat too - not too much though it can burn/stretch.

    • @ChaosCauses
      @ChaosCauses  Před 6 lety +1

      That's an awesome decision bro it's a great way to make older bikes look brand new again! The best vinyl option is the Avery Dennison or the 3M 1080 series. I personally found the Avery easier to work with and it is a lot cheaper. The only areas that it struggles is in tight spaces so I would suggest getting the adhesive glue for the wrap too. If there's anything else yo would like to know I'll happily answer your questions!

    Hey mate, in a bit of a dilemma and would appreciate your thoughts. I'm thinking of wrapping my bike but there's decals on it already. They arent clear coated and do cover the whole panels (so wouldn't cause ridges in the vinyl if I went right over the decals). The only thing is, I'm unure as to whether I can eventually peel off the vinyl without pulling off the decals with it (I'd like to keep them underneath). It's 3M vinyl if that matters. If you have time to respond I would appreciate it. Thank you as always for the content.

    Question.... With the tank you layed out the tape, cut then re taped and layed the next piece. Was there a reason that you didn't lay two pieces over and cut through two bits of white vinyl at the same time? Did you have some vinyl overlap?

    • @ChaosCauses
      @ChaosCauses  Před 5 lety +1

      Yes it's usually recommended that you overlap by about 5mm. It's impossible to cut them so perfectly that they're at the same level because the cutting tape will mess the join up.

    • @alexwotherspoon5630

      You probably could, I watched a guy do it from front to back in one piece but then it was a lot more difficult than I expected lol! The pros know which ways to work the vinyl so that the bunching up is in the right places but that takes a lot of practice.

    • @ChaosCauses

    Approximately how much does it cost to buy wrap for a motorcycle here in SA?

    • @ChaosCauses
      @ChaosCauses  Před 6 lety

      It depends on the vinyl brand and colours but for 3M 1080 series vinyl you can get basic colours for around R400 a metre and you need about 5 metres to wrap a bike. I got 7 meteres to be sure and it added up to roughly R4000. Keep in mind if you get a shop to do the wrapping they will also charge a lot for labour.

    #ISawItFirst, that looked like one hell of a process and almost took as long as bleeding my brakes and adjusting suspension 😂. Makes me want to wrap stuff now...

      Don't waste your time with Maizeys they're rude incompetent people! Go to Intamarket. They're the most helpful people I've ever met and have everything you could ever want!
