Angeles City Philippines
About me : Retired American Expat Brian & Filipina wife Luisa, living in the Angeles City / Clark Pampanga Philippines.
Contractor and workers love it when the rich American comes to town.
6:30 ; OMG, I have built hundreds of houses in the US and looking at the second floor joist that hold up the second floor it is a disaster waiting to happen. The size of the lumber is undersized and might be ok for 80lb Philippine people. If there are several people on the second floor, the flooring will probably flex and move over time, a very dangerous situation
The Phils is known for earthquakes, monsoons and landslides.😮 But thats part of the excitement of living there❤🎉
Thank you,3rd gen carpenter here.Yea,double the joists and beef up the beams,I would feel better..
Im not being negative but thats why Pinoys dont spend much on houses. They live in one story windowless shacks. Every typhoon season things get destroyed so why bother?
Then there is the reality of Pinoy culture. A beef or misunderstanding can lead to a burning of property. Another reason nothing of value is built. Reality. No such thing as insurance there.
i can guarantee you the stench of that pig pen will knock you out... but... your space, your call...
Yes, if I were Philly I would reconsider that idea.

Hello Brian, I have been watching your channel for a few years now. I am a Retired Design Engineer, That appreciates you wanting to get away from Angeles City. But, I feel that you made a Big Mistake by not investing more time and money building your new home in the Province Correctly. I just finished completely rebuilding my Filipina wife's family Provincial home located in Botolan, Zambales(Luzon), Because it was a 2-story wood frame home, That was Totally infested with Termites. I Designed and built the New House by not using one Stick of Wood. I utilized 12" x 12" Concrete "Post and Beam" Frame Construction, and filling in the spaces with Steel Bar reinforced Hollow Blocks. The Second Floor and Roof are also Steel Bar reinforced Concrete. The Doors and Kitchen Cabinets are made of Aluminum or Steel. I would keep a Very Close Eye out for Termites. See if you can Locate a Pest Control Company in the Province that can Spray for Termites. ..... Good Luck and Take Care.
Same thing happened to my mother in law's house. Infested with termites and we had to have a complete tear down and rebuild. Also in Zambales (Candelaria).
What the F*ck does your B.S. Ramblings have to do with Me just trying to warn Brian about Termite infestation of Land in the Provinces ??
Hey Philly, You took the hard road to help Lot's family. May you be blessed for your sacrifice!
The more you help people in Philippines the more they use you.
If I were you, I would hire a building inspector to evaluate what has been done so far. After seeing that "construction" the first time gave me chills, and you are right, be careful as to the weight added to that second floor. I hope you know that coco lumber is a very, very poor building material, but, of course, that's all many poor Filipinos have. I suppose for a one story nipa construction it wouldn't be too bad, but a two story building, forget it! I would pay particular attention to the load bearing support beams and the rafters; it is all very sketchy looking imo.
Huge earthquake zone….🙄 The Surigao Fault.
@@chrisgoody2shoes218 Maybe Philly can do a live stream when a tropic storm blows through: dollars to donuts the whole top floor sways in the breeze.
CANT MAKE THIS STUFF UP 💯🤣😅 NO AC NOT DONE YET. BETTER TO WAIT THIL HOUSE WAS DONE OR RENT LIKE TIM K 💯
OMG, you’re out of your mind. And that toilet! And you’ll be bored to tears.
There always something to do in the province
Hope there’s a red horse supplier close by….
Brian, I see a beautiful house when you finish your house, please do not worry about someone say neg. okay. Thanks for the up date on your house. Love by a veteran in the state.
Looking good buddy. Take your time with the finishing of the house. There’s absolutely no rush. Enjoy every minute of your new adventure. Will look amazing when all is done.
Don't let others spoil your Dreams Brian you I'm sure will truly love the 'real life' in the province, wish I could be there to help top cat and install the ceilings it's going to be fabulous I'm sure🤔♥️
We bought a house in the provence just like this after three years of work by my self and helpers now the house looks like a palace , go for it. A plus at the end of the day no rent the cost builds up a lot over the years. Our house we built a side extension , dirty kitchen and garage some new ceilings, floor tiling , re do shower CR , all new doors, lots of rendering , lots of paint. Car port up the side of the house ,paint roof , rebuild the hollow block fence , built a Terris on the front of the house lots and lots of fill to level up the yard. At the end of the day you will be happy.
If you are going to use gypsum board for the ceiling then the wood rafters wont be able to take the weight and the gypsum board will sag as the roof rafters sag and could cause the roof to leak as well so you will need to replace the roof rafters with steel.
Looks like nightmare on Elm Street to me...Good luck going native and enjoy the typhoons...that area from what I understand gets absolutely hammered...
yep it does
just be prepared typhoons are a part of life in the Philippines no matter where you live the key is to be prepared have some water and food stored and a small generator with some fuel ,

Good , Bad or otherwise Brian -- you had the balls to show us the reality of the situation , your an honest man , Great Video
I think it’s absolutely fantastic! We are close in age and if I could move my family away from it all I’d do it in a heartbeat. You’re on a new stage in your life and I’m very happy for you and your family. All in good time that house will become a home. Let the haters hate. They hate out of jealousy. Congrats on your new adventure. We only get one shot at life so make the most of it. I hope Lot gets there soon and healthy. God bless you all. Go Phillies 🧢⚾️
Positivity don't put a pig pen to close to your house for the smell will knock u out.... And plz get a generator for when yall have brown outs.... House looks way better now tho. Can't wait to see it finished😊
Great advice 😊
@@natesquestyouknowthatsrigh8269 I was raised around hog farms. They are horrific

@hillbillyintheasia6122 either or u get wht I'm saying.. enough to run a few lights , ac water and fridge ....
Solar is cost prohibitive
Not a piggery. Think of the smell.
Raising one or two pigs, you call that a piggery?
These next weeks and months are gonna see some seriously interesting turns of events...in the philippines..nothing ever gets done correctly nor on-time.
EXACTLY
I didn’t see your house in Angeles but dam bro you got some work ahead of you. Good luck on your move, hope everything works out
Hi Brian! RLB here! I live in Las Pinas, Metro Manila with my wife and we are in a 3 bedroom townhomes my wife bought. We are also improving the townhome to our liking.
I read through some of the comments about you moving and i am a subscriber, which i follow you off and on. It all depends of what you are vlogging about. The walking street i wasn't crazy about and i am so happy that you decided a different course in your living area. I certainly will be watching your vlogs on your journey of building a great life for yourself and your family.
I thought about doing some vlogging but after seeing how some of the trolls have come after good vloggers i figured i didn't need that kind of interruptions in my happy retired life at my age.
Good luck and God Bless!
I think i would have waited longer in Angeles City until that house had progressed more
There was no mad rush to move there a few more months in Angeles would have been doable
living on a building site is no cake walk either
Maybe they dont have the option- getting low on money. Or maybe they want to save and invest the savings in the house. Angeles is expensive. Just as expensive or more than the States and there is nothing there to justify that expense❤🎉 Manila living is better than Angeles
Why not finish up everything before moving in whats the rush to move into a place with no windows doors ceilings .. hey good luck but I wouldn't be moving into it before getting it finished
obviously you know nothing about the philippines. Believe it or not NOBODY needs any of that stuff to live.
Because it's Philippines.
- First you can't do anything unless you are there onsite micromanaging everything.
- Second: long term expats adopted Philippinoes mentality. He can't plan anything more than one step 😂😂😂. It will take him a few years to fix the place.
Thank goodness there is none of that vile green paint the Filipinos love! Seriously, I envy you in a lot of ways. Peace. Quiet. No traffic 😊. Hope the roosters didn’t wake you up too early. Can’t have enough windows Brian. Through ventilation is a must to keep A/C costs to a minimum. So many of our friends and rellies have no through ventilation and their houses are sweat boxes. We have it in our house and it makes a hell of a difference.
They love weird colors cos of the Mexican bloodline
Love your new adventure!!
There is no need for any negativity. The house looks awesome and I can't wait to see the finished product. Take out there.
Our original house was something similar. It is amazing how much of the "civilised" things you find you don't need, and don't miss. Enjoy it,
I CANT LIVE LIKE THAT💯 NO AC. HOUSE NOT FINISH IN A LONG TIME 💯
you fairy
Then don't go to the Philippines....a/c out half the time
@@bobfrantz534 I GO Thailand AC ALWAYS WORK 💯🇹🇭❤️👍
A/C out none of the time with generator or solar.

Put a wall and gate around your home for privacy, when you get a chance.
Glad you are happy and so optimistic about your new place, can't wait to see it six months from now when everything is pretty much done and your all settled in.
That is an exhausting trip for Lot. Let her rest when she gets there.
Looking forward to this new chapter in your Philippines story. Keep it coming!
The upgrade is looking good Brian.
Good stuff. Screen is very important. Keep the pests out for sound sleeping. See if you can find weather strip and sweep for the door jams. Plane the door bottoms to attach door weatherstrip. . Hope you can get some vent for heat to escape the above ceiling area.
And already, there is a NEW self-proclaimed "King of AC" CZcamsr putting you down now that you are gone. Just keep doing what you are doing... never look back!
There licking the scaps of the table I built.
Tremendous video. Thank you❤🎉
What an improvement from the time when you and Lot were there back in March! The home is going to be impressive and I know I can't wait to see the progress being made. Family does a great job working together to help you and Lot have the home that you both want! Thanks for the update.
I have traveled to other countries, retired military was assigned to Clark twice, and miss the Philippines with all my being. Wife is Filipino, and found there will always be haters. Just remember you do you, and be happy, love your content.
I too was stationed at Clark up until Pinatubo. We moved here three years ago to retire and we're leaving here in 2 mos. You need to dispell any notion you have from memory as to the state of this toilet now.
We had 5 brownouts this week. Traffic is border line manilla bad. Prices are higher than US. They have no respect for neighbors, burn toxic garbages daily. The attitude's are terrible as well. All I can say is visit before you leap.
Keep your good memories as that Philippines is dead.

Looking forward to seeing the work done on it.
Awesome, can’t wait to see the finished project.😊
My only question is why are you moving into a house thats not finished especially in a country prone to severe weather and power outage
Why didn't you wait until the place was done to move? This is a nightmare.
@@westerm450Living in a house that needs that much work is a nightmare. It will take forever to get done while they are living in it
If you ever get a chance to live in the provinces you'll see it's so much better than the city. I'd live in my buhay kubo long before I lived anywhere in town. It's just a different lifestyle here and it's so refreshing.
@@PILearning2LiveAgainpeople are different not everyone can live in the city and not everyone can live in the country. I would probably be bored stiff living in the country.

Hi Brian. Looking forward to when you get your motorbike is off the truck and you can tour us around the island. Good luck on the house. Am sure some of the folks here can give good advice about the construction.
Congratulations, Brian. The house looks great, a work in progress and it is all coming along. Your office, the views, the outside work on the house all look wonderful. Great first vlog from province on you and your family's new lease on life. Godspeed.

Hey I have a buddy I knew in High School that had same dark around his eyes and so did his brother. He is 73 now. It is hereditary and not a health issue. You always gonna have some wise guy in the comments. You are a handsome guy with a great personality Philly.
By the way I live totally off grid in remote part of Puna Rainforest on Big Island Hawaii. I catch rainwater off my roof and it goes into plastic barrels. I have a few solar panels and some deep cycle batteries and a back up generator. I watch CZcams for news and movies. I have a propane refrigerator and stove and lights. On demand propane hot water heater. Everything is 12 volts including my water pump. The few things that need 120 volt AC like my guitar amp are powered by an inverter. I love not having to pay or rely on a utility company. Electricty is a ripoff here. If you use only low draw items like cell phones and a tablet you can get by cheap. And no ugly power lines or meter readers coming by.
Positive comments 👍🏻👍🏻 Great adventure… when you look back on this time- your completed and finished home will all be worth it. Province life… all worth it. 👏🏻👏🏻
Very nice, Philly. Congrats, enjoy the change of pace with your family in your new house in the province! 🙂
Hi...its rough putting your life on youtube. I hope everything will progress easily for you and your family. I'm sure everyone will be happy and thankful for all the help and good times you'll have there. Take care of yourself and thank you for always showing us viewers how it really is there. I've learned a lot from you over the years.
The dark area under your eyes is called periorbital hyperpigmentation. The area under your eyes can have reduced fatty tissue allowing blood vessels to show through. It can be caused by allergies, lifestyle factors (drinking, caffeine, smoking. It also can be caused by hypothyroidism. Genetics can also be a factor. They have products that will treat these dark circles. You can also elevate your head with an extra pillow, and try to get more sleep. I think you have decided to just live with it, and answer subscribers questions. There are a lot of worse problems you could have.
zzzman2206 , your parents raised you well, to reach out like that, refreshing to see , on how some give it to Brian every now and then
Good on you!! Province life is the way to go. I can envision the house when complete, will be really nice. Just something to think about, make sure the pig pen is not too close to the house. The smells can be pretty rough 24/7, especially in the heat. They have a hole in the wall to flush out the pig poop and pee, then it just runs out on the ground . I would put it as far away as possible for the house.
I think my in law's house was about 150 feet or so from the pig pen. Didn't notice any odor from it while in the house.
@@iluvlechon8810 that is good. we have about the same and there are at times 3 to 5 pigs and depending on the wind it can get a bit ripe. Especially when the owner comes to clean out the pen.
