Remember this folks.
A country might look good on paper, or on a CZcams video, but what about the “Chemistry” between you, the individual and the country and culture as a whole?
This is something we can’t know in advance. We can only make our move, dive in and test the waters…….and see how it goes.

I can totally see myself knocking into that pole in the middle of the night grabbing snacks from the fridge ..... lol
I think it should be declared a hazardous area.
I'm super conscious of the way the fridge opens too. I usually have to swap hands to make it open correctly and it's not too complicated. It is one of the first things I look for.
Thanks for the tour, Don.
Thank you for the tour. It is great to see different options. Seems like a good location and you are right in that it could potentially be a good starting place for someone while they get acointed with the town.
Thank you for all of your funny, informative and interesting posts!
Nice informative video. Price is reasonable. Decorated with a female in mind. I prefer more substantial furniture as a male, not complaining, those are beautiful apartments.
Don, thanks for sharing this insightful presentation. I'm flabbergasted by the quality of the apartments. Stella has flair for finding such places.
Thanks for sharing
Those are cute apartments. They’re air conditioned, which is a high priority. They don’t seem to be too far from the beach and convenient to the restaurants. Look like good deals to me. Thanks as always for sharing!
Yes they are! They're conveniently located close to shopping, the beach, and health care.
It’s a date with Stella! Wonderful to see you, Don!
Don, the apartments are wonderful. Quiet is another plus.
Oh, yes, I would move there in a second. I like the one with a bathtub.
I have friends who live in Cuenca just across the Rio Tomebamba from the El Vergel district who have a two story, one and half bath, three bedroom place with a small garage, laundry and storage rooms with a balcony and a small deck for $550 a month with all utilities, including wifi, included. From their place you can walk to the Super Maxi or head up towards Parque Calderon. It's also walking distance to Mercado 10 de Agosto and Mercado 12 de Abril. Not to mention all the great restaurants in the area.
I am moving to Cuenca by end of year. Can I message you and find out how to find a property similar in price? I used to live in Quito in 2015-2017, back to US to work but now I am ready to retire a little early.
You cannot compare Cuenca with Manta. People looking for warmth and the beach are not looking for a place to be cold nor issues with altitude. Plus many older people prefer not to have to deal with stairs and as I said being out of breath because of the altitude. I know even as an 18 year old when I moved from island living to Calgary at 3400 ft I at first wondered why I was having difficulty on my runs. Then my brother reminded me about the altitude. I have to remember that everytime I visit Cuenca and Quito.
In the US, you can live in Omaha, Nebraska, for a fraction of living on the beach in Miami, which doesn't mean people want to. You aren't comparing apples to apples.
Who the heck would want to live in Nebraska! Ewe!
Wow 🤯
Yeah Don, that is very nice price for a nice little place. Thanks for the showing.
Thanks for doing a real estate video. Love it!
You are so welcome!
It is refreshing to see rentals that are tastefully decorated. Thank you!
Our pleasure!
Kudos to Stella for uncovering these gems that other real estate agents may overlook. These are indeed cute and accommodating apartments that would make great homes for those of us who might want a convenient and comfortable place to land so that we can take time to research options for a permanent home.
I could even see staying in one of these places myself for a couple years.
You got it Jeff. You and I are on the same page on this. The thing I like about these units is the fact that the owner has put her heart and sole into decorating these and they are extremely well taken care of.
What about 2 bedrooms?
That mostly what you will find here.
Oh wow Don... I could definitely use such an apartment 🌹They are so lovely - thanks millions for sharing... counting down for Ecuador here.... Less than one and a half year and I'll be there... Yeah 💖🌹💖
Thank you for showing these amazing hidden opportunities my friend! You’re the boss!
Great job, very cute apts , great price.
!!!! Absolutely Wonderful!!!!
Thank you so much will be checking you and Stella out. Those are great rentals.
You deserve a bite!!!!!! Me I mean that with peace love. Lol😅😅😅😅😅
Love the apartments. Great price, so clean.
They are!
Very cool to see different apartments and what can $600 get per month.
Don, I also do all my pole dancing in the kitchen. 😂
That was so nice. A real treat to explore. Thank you Mr. Shader!
I have few pet peeves in life, but a backward fridge is way up on the list! I don't even like them with the freezer on top.
increible!
wow, those are awesome units,..and then the 3rd one with stir fry and pole dancing going on in the kitchen....very nice...hope you are well mr. don
Thanks for the info 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Thank you for the video. These are nice!
Thanks for watching!
Very nice apartments ❤
Great video! I always enjoy my Grumpy Gringo vids! 😂❤
Thanks Don. Appreciate the video.
You are very welcome.
These are all so cute!
I'm not the "ohhhh that is so cute" kinda guy but I gotta tell ya, these apartments are cute as can be.
Those 3 apartments were all great Stella has a good eye. I once looked at a studio apt. When I asked where is the washroom was, it was in the kitchen. Just open the cupboard door and flip up the counter...viola toilet. The shower was in the middle of the kitchen as well, with the drain on the kitchen floor. I never noticed the shower head in the middle of the kitchen ceiling. Didn't rent it. The apartment with the pole in the kitchen brought back memories. thanks
Looks like someone's future home sweet home 🏡
So much more so than most "affordable" housing around here.
All three are cute & well priced. I never watch TV in my bedroom, lol.
The other thing … I guess I lack imagination. I’m not crafty, I’m not a shopper. So without a little balcony to have a little container garden, what would I do? Yes I’m a spoiled North American with a big yard.
Those will rent in no time.
Hi Don, thanks for sharing this excellent and helpful video.
Was it only the 3rd apartment which offered a bathtub?
Thanks for publishing this with Spanish subtitles.
I'm Like # 479.
That's a good question, I'll ask Stella to answer it for you. I personally don't recall.
@@DonShader Sounds good Don. Have a great day.
Hola Don! Honestly, I was in shock with those first two apartments that you showed for the price of $550. It is good to know that there are options in case that Panamá stops being my favorite. Good to see that Stella and you are doing well. Abrazos
At first I was like $550? Think it's a bit steep for that apartment but if everything else is included then it's a pretty good deal
I love #1!! However, I reside in Guadalajara, MX. :) Love your channel!!
Awesome! Thank you! Come back anytime.
They really are darling apartments and the price is very affordable considering all you get included. Too bad America can’t offer those types of housing, especially for those of us on Social Security. I really liked the first apartment. I hope things turn around soon for everyone concerned in Ecuador and that its citizens will feel safe again. Thank you for showing the rentals. It may help someone make a decision to move there in spite of everything going on. ❤
Not a bad deal to be in a decent neighborhood in Manta and most utilities included. They could be a good temporary place while looking for something more permanent or building a home.
Thank you! You got that exactly right. Finally! Someone that actually listened to my video. Come to Manta, I'll buy you a nice breakfast.
I like the price, but I wouldn't feel safe. I love your video, and I'm happy to see you!
This place is as safe as you would want it to me. I can say that about this whole country.
Totally enjoyed the video. The closer I get to my move the more I enjoy videos of different rentals and prices to get a good idea of what to expect. I really loved the first apartment and the 2nd was also nice. The third apartment not so much. Maneuvering that pole would be a major inconvenience in the kitchen. I love cooking and I would spend half my day having to maneuver that pole. I feel $450 max for that apartment in my opinion.
Don't forget, everything is negotiable in Ecuador. I can't imagine living with that pole but the truth of the matter is that that was not originally intended to be an apartment. It's a long story.
One of the first two could hold me for the Cuenca rainy season, if only there was parking. Are secure parking garages a thing in Manta? Like a storage locker?
Cheers from NC Don!
Unfortunately, no, and no on both questions. Leave your car in Cuenca and walk/taxi around here.
Hey Don, I spent some time in Ecuador about 13 years ago and absolutely loved it there. Would you recommend to your family or friends to visit now or wait a bit?
You can visit now. Just pay attention to warnings you might get from folks that have been here for a while.
The prices you quoted would be the same as 1bdrm apt for seniors in missouri would be. Without all the seaside fun
Great, but who wants to live in Missouri?
Can Stella recommend an honest agent in La Carolina area of Quito. Apartments prices are similar here and include parking
you 1st said you move there if you weren't locked in to your apartment
but it appears the lack of a parking spot has you having 2nd thoughts though Sir.
That third apartment is smaller and has the pole 🤪. So it should be a cheaper price than the other two, to be fair.
Really?
The third apartment had multiple windows!
All of these apartments have multiple windows.
Very nice. I noticed that there was not a washer and dryer. How close is the laundromat?
Hi Steve, this aparments do have down stairs washer dryer
@@stellacoulter9396 Is the laundry room shared with all of the other tenants?
Great post! And if 2 couples want to come, they are next door!
This landlord gives a dam about tenants. And she needs to screen her tenants extremely well because some people do not give a dam. I was thinking of another L.A. country, but this.......EC is soooo inexpensive.
Fully furnished?
Yes, most rentals in Ecuador are fully furnished & all/most bills paid
Don, in your experience is it true that in Ecuador a rental contract must be for two years, no more/no less, for it to be legally valid... that a rent increase is not allowed until the end of the two-year period and the rent increase after two years may not be for more than ten percent. Also, If the landlord wants to take back his place, he must give 60 days notice?
Hi i am Stella and I will anwer your questions.1 to be legally a rental contract must be one year only. 2 the increase can not be more that 10%. 3. if the landlord wants to take back his place needs to give 60 or 90 dayds notice.
@@stellacoulter9396 ... Thank you, Stella. I looked up the law in Ecuador and it says the renter has a right to a minimum of two years rental contract. I guess it is possible for both parties to agree to a lesser term (though it doesn't say that except for hotels and renting "locales" for events of short-term duration, e.g., exhibitions.) Here is the citation to Ecuador's law (Codificación 1.
How recent is your information?
I have a six month contract, always have since day one. Who pays attention to laws in THIS country?
You're wasting your time if looking up laws and believing them in this country.
Hey Don, Looking for Oceanfront rental for 90 days any suggestions? those apartments are ok -but when I see bars on the window, not interested - looking for around 1500 a month-90 days is enough to know if I want to buy there -and 90 day visa time frame, Cheers
Hi James, my name is Stella Coulter , I do have have apartmets ocean front , yes you can rent for 90 days.
Send Stella an email at stellacoulter59@gmail.com.
Hot water?
Of course. And they have elctricity too.
If I were interested, who would I contact?
stellacoulter59@gmail.com
I wonder what the locals pay for rent.
$90 and on up
Would any of these places be available to rent for just one month?
It can be rented for for 3 months, 6 months or a year.
Where do I put my clothes??
No closets
There is closets in both aparmets I garantee we miss it when we did the video.
Like Stella said.
These are like Air B& B? All furnished in USA COST $ 90 per day! CRAZY!
There is nothing further from the truth. These are definitely NOT Airbnb. I assure you i would not waste my time on them if they were.
Sorry - but the news about Ecuador - internationally - isn't very good when it comes to prison riots murders drug smuggling and a dysfunctional government. Completely unable to protect citizens or provide safety to the honest non corrupt politicians and / or public servants - trying to do what is right - and with great risk ! The President certainly is trying but he is unable to have the same success as El Salvador has had with their gangs. > It may be a very long time - if ever ? 😥 Pretending it is different - right now - could be hazardous to your health !!! 🤔
President Noboa of Ecuador has not been in office even for a full eight months yet. Just exactly how much do you expect him (or anyone) to accomplish in so short a time?
Ecuador has challenges to be sure, and it is working on them based on priority and available resources. The president of El Salvador did indeed dramatically reduce what previously had been the world’s highest murder rate - but only by throwing civil liberties and due process to the wind.
Noboa is young and he has growing and maturing to do - especially in regard to foreign policy and to learning how to build coalitions with sectors of society that don’t align with his politics. This is more art than science and it will take time for him to cultivate these skills.
I’m aware of no one who pretends that Ecuador has no problems or that it is some kind of heaven on Earth, and you strike me as arrogant to presume that you are “enlightening” and educating us all on information that is readily accessible via any reputable news source.
The news always shows the worst of the worst, I've been in uio 6 years now and it's been fine, the key is to choose the right neighborhood
It's rather depressing about Ecuador. It was my first choice for a Plan B, especially Cuenca. But now everything has changed because of recent events.
KBwhatever, you are so misinformed!
@@DonShader So are millions if not a few billion others most likely ? That is the world we all live in now.
