Science has also concluded that 'Load Management' is the same as 'Getting Paid To Do Nothing.'
😂
Players found a way to make a insane amount of money for doing nothing but sitting on the bench

People forget that Popovich did the load management because his players were older. And let’s be honest, you don’t recover as fast the older you get. Now players are sitting just to take a day off.
Thank you! he only did it to older players kawhi, tony, danny green, mills, never got load managed
@@mordakie3805 I'm ok with lebron playing 65 games, he earned that and get injured just playing 50+ games. When guys sit out because they don't feel like playing is what pisses people off.
Right. Plus he knew they only had a year or 2 to try and get one more ring. He wanted to save them. Which made sense.

If youre a player and you want load management then let’s reduce the schedule by 15% and lower the salary cap significantly as a result and viewers wont have an issue. You play less, you get paid less money. Sounds like a fair exchange to me. 8:56 Robs idea 💡 is perfect
This is the problem of the NBA marketing it's individual superstars and not the team. If I were a San Antinio fan and found out that LeBron or Durant or Leonard or Curry will not be playing against my team because they're on load management, I would be stoked because it's an easy W and we can also have our guys rest after the third quarter.
You punish teams doing load management by beating and embarrassing them on the floor.
@@karlanthonymargate7362Basketball culture has always thrived on superstars there’s only 5 guys on there court per team at a time. It’s marketed that way because thats what the people want. I became a heat fan because d wade was my favorite player the stars draw most fans to the team nba is not the nfl if the stars die the league dies plain and simple.

Case closed...thank you for stopping by sir, be sure to pick up treats on your way out.
I’m glad the media is finally giving the Spurs the rightful blame they deserve for pioneering load management. This goes as far back as 2013 when they rested their stars against the heat.
Nobody told y'all to copy us just because we did it while winning with no player going over 30 minutes per game
They got away with it because they were winning and their big 3 was older
It definitely became a bigger issue once players in their prime started to load manage
@@chrisdavis4945not even sure if it's the Spurs who came up with that idea. I remember watching the Jazz under Sloan and yes Stockton didn't sit out games. He played 82 games but he was clearly on minutes restriction during the regular season when he was already a bit older.
He would start games but no matter what the score was or whether hew was playing good or bad, like clockwork, Howard Eisley would come in and finish the quarter.
And btw, people forget that when Pop sat out his starters for that Miami game, they still almost won that game.
Without load management Tim Duncan retires at 34 because he had a bad knee since he was 26. The whole process started to preserve Tim for the playoffs.
They just need to mandate that players don't take off nationally televised games (ESPN, ABC, TNT etc.)
Go 20 plus years with 50 plus wins then you can rest whoever you want LMAO.
How many times did all time greats like Jordan, Kobe, Kevin Garnett, and so on play 80+ games ? Majority of their careers. Science has proven NBA Players are softer than ever, emotionally and physically. Whether it's crying about the "old media " or not getting their flowers or player empowerment, which is a nice way of saying "when I'm not living up to my contract I can demand a trade to any team I want , usually a top seeded team ironically"
Beautiful 👏🏽
And people talk about how it’s unfair that it can cause great players to have shorter careers. To me the long term durability of a player is part of the whole process.
I'll never forget being at the Cavs-Warriors game in Cleveland where the entire starting lineup sat out. I know fans will say, "But they had a back-to-back." But this dismissal ignores the fact that most people buy tickets in advance, and the game was advertised early on in the season.

Broussard acting like LeBron routinely played 82 games earlier in his career is hilarious considering he's only done it once 🤣
true, but i think Lebron has played no less than 75 games like 9 times or something. Not giving him praise or anything.
Just saying In general, if superstars only missed 7 games in a season, that’s not too bad tbh.
He played the majority of games most years.
Okay then, if LeBron is a serial load manager, then doesn't that make his scoring record that much more impressive if he's quote-unquote "missed all these games?"🤔🤔
@@sokit2emmissing 7 games & not being hurt is bad
Rob’s suggestion is a great idea. If you’re “hurt” then no problem but you have to miss the following 2 or 3 games after the one you missed. It gives the player sufficient time to “recover” from said injury and to the load managers let’s see how many times they’ll sit out with the new minimum game stipulations for end of season awards.
Don't know if that works I'm ok with a guy taking 1 game a year. Seems they already take 3 games off at a time now. Just stop paying them if they're injured. Players will make sure to be healthy then.
@@JimBrave-ri1ocso punish the guys who are actually hurt? That's a stupid idea lmao
@@kevinmanginelli6932 If you stop going to work for a year would your boss still pay you? you're stupid. you want to reward players that always get hurt. I'm saying guys like DAK who is clearly broken down and not the same athlete anymore after all his injuries. Did the Cowboys do the right thing and Sign another QB to a Contract. No they gave Dak 500 Billions dollars and rewarded an Injured QB. That also happens in the NBA now. Paying players more and more money who always get hurt. So you were for giving Kristaps 30 million a year. That is what you're saying.
The Next Contract should reflect the Health of the Athlete. They are OVER PAYING GUYS THAT ARE have never played even 60 games in a season.
This is such a dumb idea
They’ve weaponized this “science” word in such a way .. that the ignorant will believe anything the media says.
This is the best answer I've ever heard to combat load management. FANTASTIC idea. Sit out 10 days for every day you need to take off. FANTASTIC
Facts! My 9 year old son is a big Lebron fan, they were playing Nets last year and they just played Philly. Went to the game Lebron and Anthony Davis sat out, why? Because of load management. My son was very disappointed and I spent a grip for them tickets. 😒. Very disappointed and made me not really want to pay a premium for tickets anymore
I definitely understand your frustration because you spent your hard earned money for your son to see his favorite player. At the same time the NBA only cares about 💰 at the end of the day! Fans donate their hard earned money to these franchises but don’t get anything in return.
If I recall correctly, the reason he sat out that Nets game is because he wanted to play at the Garden against the Knicks the next night.
@@frankr111thdang that’s messed up.
@@frankr111th you are correct and to my surprise they were suited up 😡
You got ripped off. Plain and simple. They don't care. You are one of countless fans now former fans that has been conned. Many more will be conned sadly. The NBA knows what it's doing. I support the NFL more now than the NBA diva show. Load management has made me not too excited for this year's NBA season. Seriously I don't have my hopes up.
They should only be paid for how many Games and Minutes they play. Tired of bench players making 20 Million per year and averaging only 15 minutes with 4 ppg and 3 rebounds. yet they make the most money per minute in the NBA. More than S Gildeous as example. A Bad bench player MAKES MORE than Lebron and Giannis. So the Math is all off on how they pay players now. Back then a SuperStar would make 5-6 Million per year and a bad bench player would make 300,000 A good bench player would make 900,000 That is still 1/6th of a Superstar. Now they have bench players making 20 million and the Top players making 50 Million. Well that is 2/5ths. Bench players make way too much now and bench players are not nearly as good as they were in the 1990's.
I mean that’s obvious lol just look at how the older players used to play 82 games like it was nothing. We never seen guys get so many ACL and Achilles injuries like they do now.
They play year-round is part of it, at least back in the day The Off Season actually meant an OFF season.
Rodman would go 100% percent every game and then get on the exercise bike while on the bench.
@@samfolkestad1726 or play different things. When I was a kid we played baseball in the summer, football in the fall and basketball in the winter, maybe track or something in the spring.
The game bad then was different. It’s much easier for let’s say John Stockton to not get hurt than it would be for Derrick Rose. They weren’t nearly the athletes that players are today.
Science never "supported load management." It's literally an unfalsafiable claim, so science can't truly prove or disprove load management helping or hurting or having no impact at all on injuries.
I will say that the idea that doing less prepares your body better has always seemed kind of absurd to me.
It’s not unfalsifiable. You can easily do a few studies showing whether or not there’s a correlation. Seems they have enough data to conclude there aren’t any or aren’t enough to justify it.
@@km_1911 I don't understand why someone would think that's an unfalsifiable claim. Proving it has no effects at all would be impossible but proving it doesn't lead to less time missed from injuries is pretty easy.
You can do studies that could suggest correlation, but causation is impossible to prove. Injuries are too random. There are too many variables that could never possibly be accounted for, and hence, you can only ever make estimations never verifiable conclusions.

the problem is there is no incentive to play regular season. in other sports ie more developed sports european football the regular season is the star, there is no play off. the incentive is to take every game seriously. it matters. in nba sadly they dont. play off is destroying the sports. it is self sabotage
The biggest problem is to many teams make the playoffs. So a regular season win or loss has lost its value. No need to try hard in the regular season when everyone makes the playoffs.
the play in is horrible. It makes all the games mean nothing for teams now.
@JimBrave-ri1oc I agree. Go back to 8 teams not 10. The other problem is these guys get paid so much money and guaranteed money that what's the point in caring until the playoffs?
@@FGrecoJR Also Bench players get paid WAY TOO MUCH MONEY EARLY ON so they quit and stop trying to get better for their Family. They are happy making 24 million a year averaging 2 ppg and 1 rebounds per game in 15 minutes and NOT TRYING!!!!!!!!!!

@FGrecoJR what are you talking about only 8 teams make the playoffs
Load management not the problem with the play its the teams not practicing
In regards to starting pitchers, I remember when they used to say that when a Gibson or Drysdale were starting the announcers would state- You'd better get to this guy early or you won't get to him at all. And in most cases that was true. Often today you will see guys with no-hitters get pulled in like the 7th inning. Crazy!
Rob pitching my idea from like 4 years ago 😂👌🏾👍🏾
You had a horrible idea then and Rob has a horrible idea now
It’s not just that. The pace and area you have to cover on a per possession basis. Given the amount of 3 point shooting and the speed of play with the athleticism of these players it makes sense that they are getting more injured.
Rob Parker brought the " I used to listen to transistor radio". Damn, I thought I was old.
The way weightlifters and distance runners prepare is by gradually increasing the workload and then tapering off until they have to peak. This has been the method for decades and has shown itself to work. So resting right before the playoffs makes sense to me, so that you are not behind in recovery. But resting off and on throughout the season isn’t the same, that’s comparable to a consistently low level of activity and then a spike of high intensity at the end (playoffs), and there’s no way that can work effectively imo
Resting before playoffs makes no sense either.
I feel like AAU has done more damage than the NBA. Old heads may talk about back in their day, but they didn't start playing as young or as hard as kids have for the last 20 years, and they played different sports back then. Kids bodies are all messed up now
I miss my era so damn much
They played just a much, just in parks. And with less medical advancement that's a moot point. Not playing multiple sports as old heads did is a bigger factor honestly
Kobe KG Allen Iverson Ray Allen Paul Pierce LeBron etc grew up playing AAU as well, stop wit the excuses…
That Doctor analogy just makes me think we need more doctors lol wtf idgaf what you say i want my doctor well rested
Would’ve loved to see Chris and Rob discuss this in the greater context of labor movements in the US
The new play style of all the euro steps are putting way more stress on joints and other things in my opinion.
Players now don’t play in any back to backs. That’s what caused load management to balloon out of control.
The length of the season is financial but also a test of endurance. To evaluate whole team because players will get tired and you will use the bench. The length of games is to tire players.
Finally they putting a stop to this
Man Robs has an amazing idea. Miss a game you need to miss the next 3 since the player needed to rest or heal up.
My grandfather was supposed to take part in the D-Day landings but he had just fought in Africa and was feeling depressed and had anxiety so they let him stay home. With full pay of course. Thank god for military load management.
The NBA should offer a refund if a star sits out.Full refund if you don't go to the game and 50% refund if you go or a free store item. Also, players shouldn't be able to sit out on the road. They should sit home games. That way people who save up money to see stars come to town aren't effected.
How do you define stars?
This just in: Recent groundbreaking discoveries in science have proven that if you don't do your job, you shouldn't get paid.
I aint a doctor and will never claim to be but ever since the science load management thing came out i always thought it was b.s to me because injuries have not decreased but increased and i think its because some players sit out half a season then try to came back at the end or playoffs and go full speed think about it if you haven't played in month's and just jump right back in you are asking for a injuries just like taking a long break from working out if you start back the same way you were doing months before you will get the same result injuries because the body is not not use to the new big jump in activity
Love Rob’s idea!
I legit stopped watching basketball prolly about 6 or 7 years ago. When I would cut the tv on get ready watch a game and 3 out of the 4 players I want to watch all on the bench resting with no injuries 😂I was like yep done with this non sense I’ll watch come playoff time only
You couldn't get me to buy an nba ticket these days honestly lol
I think load management is beneficial for older players, but may be detrimental for younger players. On average, it has not helped make a difference decreasing injuries. I just don’t believe that it should be followed as the general rule for injury prevention. I think it should only be utilized in certain circumstances depending on a variety of factors such as age, individual player genetics, health risks, etc.
It doesn’t benefit them dolt
@@JM-qn3tf On average it hasn’t helped younger players. But it has helped some older players like Lebron, and Duncan in their later years.
What about the punishment for load management should be a one game suspension without pay. Bet the players would suddenly play 75-80 games
Those of us that have physical jobs don't want hear the complaints of NBA players and organizations about them needing rest. We stand or walk or lift etc 8-10 and sometimes 12hrs a day 5-6 days a week and there isn't a 3-4 month vacation either.
I think that's a little different From playing professional sports. I get your point, but that's 2 different things. Even with your physical job i'm sure you take some days off

No Bench players today try to Rise UP and take that injured star players roster Position anymore. That is the biggest problem. The GM and owner just over pays that bench player and wants them to not cause "any Problems" by averaging 23 ppg and winning basketball while the Starting SG is out. I guarantee back in the 90's if a Starter missed 30 games his career was over cause that 23 year old Bench player will come in and average 24 ppg and Take that Job. Why do they not Rise up today. Cause the League office doesn't want them too. It's political, insurance and lawyers are involved now. The league just wants to over pay those young bench players soooooooo much that they never try again.
Stars resting is an opportunity for bench players to and push for a starting job.
They don't though cause they are already paid 30 million a year by year 2 so they stop trying cause a starter that has to try way more and actually play makes about the same. @@karlanthonymargate7362

All these hesi, herky jerky, over-dribbling, and euro-stepping will tear ligaments and break bones. It's the free-style that's making them injured.
Great analysis odd couple I agree at first I thought load management work but recent year players are getting more injuries although player who play 15 to 20 years ago have a shorter career it's probably the medical team have improved significantly to extend their career I think they need to bring back more practices to strengthen their body and also I think they should start training camp early and at least remove some of the preseason games to lessen the back to back
You have to consider that kids now are playing more games at the youth level and had made too much emphasis on athleticism and explosiveness. A lot of them too or doing basketball exclusively and putting stress on the same parts of the body day in and day out.
I remember watching some of those ball family videos wherein they were doing workouts as kids and I was wondering how that would affect them in the long run.
Not just the practicing. The avg human's athleticism nowadays is off the chartds comepared to 10-15yrs ago.
I tried to do load management at my warehouse and now I’m working for fedex
doesnt matter. until they adopt a baseball rule like what they have about (if your are injured then you HAVE to miss X amount of games), then it wont matter. we are about to see a TON of "hurt" players all of a sudden. They don't care about awards. They already got their generational wealth. So the players will just miss games now from being "hurt". So...not "load management" and a mentality of "tell me i aint hurt"
They need to get contract reduced each game missed
So, is it the players taking games off? Or is it management and training staff making players sit out? I'm surprised more journalists haven't got to the bottom of this.
It’s obviously not working. More injuries than ever
Robs idea is great. Would also make it so fans would know in advance if a player was playing

They are getting hurt more, because they over train and specialize to soon. Also, the game is different they play faster with more erky jerk moves. Also, AAU burns them out. Not to mention they go from playing a 30-game seasons to 82 games.
Just make the regular season 65 games instead of 82
kids and players aren't as durable today. They need more time between games. Maybe 3 or 4 days between each game.
Players won’t give back money
Kids and players are coddled and spoiled
I always said that the NBA needs some type of PTO system paid time off for every eight games a NBA player plays he gets one game of PTO that he can take off
Also people have to stop thinking all load management is the same...taking off after 3 games and 4 nights can benefits, be sore and less than 90% can help, but just doing it just to do it and there is no real injury or something you are really dealing with makes no since.
If this is science, I'm a doctor.
In terms of load management, who are the great offenders? Is it young nba players or older nba players?
Human beings in general are getting lazier.
How did basketball players manage back in the 90s/80s/70s etc.?
You can do that sometimes getting 5 hours of sleep but don’t make it normal…
A typical football injury that players play through would bench NBA players because they find every reason to not play.
For Rob's idea, I think the teams will still take the 4 games off for their players, and even pencil in the dates as soon as they get the schedule.
The last two years in a row the Warriors sat all their star players when they played in Orlando. I’m not sure I would pay money to see a game anymore since there’s a decent chance you’ll be watching bench players all night. If I wanted that I’d pay a fraction of the price and go see a G League game.
So, it's bad for the fans that miss seeing their favorite player/s that one night they got tickets to see the game, but it's a "great idea" that 2 more fan bases are forced to go through the same thing......🤔🤔🤔😒😒😒.....
Why are you comparing a job that requires physical exertion to jobs where you can be overweight and still perform them? Come on
The NBA is jumping through all these hoops to add a stupid new tournament, a play-in game, all these rule changes to try and make the regular season more compelling.... The reason the regular season is getting less interest is there are almost no games where two good teams play each other at full strength, and so there is no chance for previews of post season matchups. Who cares if the Bucks without Giannis lose a game in December to a complete Nuggets team? What could have been an interesting finals preview becomes meaningless in the eyes of viewers. Make the players play all their games save for injury, and more people will find it interesting.
There’s NEVER been any data that says that Load Management is beneficial to players.
You don't have to be a doctor to see at all the players' load managing and still getting hurt...
Its not about injuries, to these players. It’s about longevity. Performing at a high level in order to keep getting these massive contracts. And I would say that’s probably true, seeing players like lebron average 28 points in year 24, Kareem was averaging like 10pts a game at that point lol.
Uh oh them Pros gonna have to go back to work
I don't need to be a doctor to know this. Common Sense will tell you the Truth...
This is completely different from a pitch count. There is science behind that. Throwing anything 100 times in a short span of time is traumatic to one's arm/shoulder. Try it. Now imagine you do it with a violent motion with incredible velocity and spin rate.
Taking entire games off is just taking entire games off.
I dunno about making guys miss three to four games if they say theyre hurt. the minimum for end of year awards makes sense because realistically it's only the players who have a chance at those awards that people care about when they sit. Forcing guys to play through acute injuries is prob bad for business. imagine player who tweaked their ankle, they have a game tomorrow and their next one after that is 5 days afterwards. You're gonna make that guy miss the next three games too? All that'll happen is guys will sub in for 30 seconds and sit back down.
funny how science can change and they’ll believe whatever it says
Rob is spot on here!
I think that sports medicine has gotten to the point that something like load management isn’t necessary to achieve a long career
NBA and NFL are different sports of course, but I’ve only ever heard nfl players make the off hand comment that they use to practice harder and more often with supposedly less injuries, but these days guys stay injured.
Of course NBA will say that 😅
I love rob’s idea. It will force teams and players to rethink sitting out a game. If luka sits against the magic. Then he CAN’T play against the heat the next night.
So what happens if a player has a bad case of diarrhea? He sits for 3 days? Or he has to play through it and risk shifting on himself like Paul Pierce 🤣
