    Congratulations!! 🎉 Being able to jog is such a huge milestone, can’t wait to get there myself! I’m 8 weeks post surgery now and just made the transition from boot to shoe, and thankfully the stretching at PT was only painful for the first couple weeks and is totally fine now. Hope you’re playing basketball again soon!

      Thank you!! Yeah I'm jogging again very consistently now and feel super grateful for it. Exciting to hear you're in the shoe now! That was a huge milestone as well. Hoping bball is around the corner as well - I'll def be making a video about it once I can!

    Thank you for this series of videos!!! I tore my achilles playing basketball on Sep 6th. I never had any major injury in my life until then. I was clueless about this injury but watching all your videos gave me so much information and optimism! I really appreciate the effort and quality of these videos!

    Hi Alexa,
    Thanks for sharing your journey, it is good to see someone make it through to the other side with so much positivity.
    I'm 38 from Aus and ruptured my achilles playing hockey. I am 9 days post surgery and getting my research on.
    So thank you as this has helped me to understand it all better.
    Hope you continue to get stronger on your recovery

Looking forward to being able to jog and jump! But I’m staying the course and being really careful. Small victories feel great!

    Hi Alexa,
    Thanks for doing these videos. I just discovered them yesterday, and have now watched them all and subscribed. I have been reading everything I could online about recovering from this surgery, but your personal story has been the best information, by far, that I have found. My 2 week apt is in 3 days to remove the stitches. I’m 73 but was very active, so my Dr. recommended the surgery. So far I am doing good. Please keep doing these. Thanks, Dave

    • @HelloImAlexa
      @HelloImAlexa  Před rokem

      Oh yay! I'm sooo glad to hear that, thank you :) Good luck with getting the stitches out, think it should be today or tomorrow. If you were active before, you should definitely be able to get to it just got to put the time in with PT when the time comes. Wishing you a smooth recovery 💪

For last couple of weeks, it has been super swollen and I am still limping a little. I am still doing PT every week and doing workouts every day for strength. I am riding the stationary bike but no other cardio yet.

    I’m at week 10 post op! I’m just so happy to be out of the boot. Started incorporating leg days since last week but limited to only certain movements such as deadlifts, thrusters, RDLs, quad extension and modified leg press! Trying to take it slow because I’m also scared to re-rupture.

    10 days post op here 🙋🏾‍♀️ I tore my Achilles playing basketball as well. You’re videos are providing me so much comfort during this time! I am also a model. One of my biggest goals is to be able to walk in heels again especially for runway shows. Around what month would you say that you felt comfortable wearing heels again?

    • @HelloImAlexa
      @HelloImAlexa  Před rokem

      Awe dang, well I am so happy they have been helpful!! Let's see… I think I could have worn heals at my wedding if I really wanted to so that would have been around 5-6 months post-op. I did decide to wear sandals and sneakers at my wedding and woke up the next morning thinking my foot felt a bit sore but it was all good. If you're wearing them for a short period of time then it could be okay but yeah that's earliest I think I would have tried it. Definitely ask your doctor beforehand too, to see what they say. Wishing you a smooth recovery 💪

      Awe, well congrats on hitting 6 months! Are you working with a PT? I'd recommend working with someone locally to help you ease back into running. As you can see in the video, my PT gave me a gradual program to use to get back into it. Hope that helps!

  • @cccEngineer
    @cccEngineer Před 8 měsíci

    How big was your tear gap? Was it a full rupture? Also, did you do a minimally invasive surgery or a regular open surgery (1 inch scar or so is minimally invasive, bigger 4in or so scar is regular open surgery). I have an achilles tendon rupture at the same age as you it seems and I'm wondering what your progress has been. You may not know this but do you know what suturing technique they used (krakow, triple bundle, etc.)?
    Thank you for your time!

      @HelloImAlexa  Před 8 měsíci

      Make sure to watch more of my videos if you're curious to hear more of the answers to some of these questions.
      I had a full rupture and my scar is quite short in length. The surgery I had also gave me two small scars on each side of my heel. I don't know the name of anything and don't want to give any false information. Hope that helps!

    I am 4-5 months post op and normal shoes are still super uncomfortable-- they dig into my scar which is till a bit swollen-- do the running shoe irritate your scar site?

    • @HelloImAlexa
      @HelloImAlexa  Před 3 měsíci

      Yeah I remember feeling that way about some of my taller shoes too. I found the ones with shorter backs made a huge difference for that time period and then eventually more months post op it isn’t a problem anymore

      Hi there! I've been told by my doctor that you should be able to get back to the activities you did before the injury! You do need to work at it though and practice and be careful. I recommend talking to your doctor or physical therapist about your goals so they know it's important to you and can help you get there. Good luck 💪

    Hey Alexa! ❤️ We spoke previously in some comments haha, I’m also a product designer in Cali.
    I work in a CZcamsr’s company and had a thought for your channel - would you consider opening up a new channel for fitness stuff? I say this because I know big topic transitions can hurt a channel’s prefomance and I honestly like you vibe and want to see you succeed. Just a thought, hope you know it’s from a good place 🙏🏼

      Hey Vivi! Thanks for looking out. My life has shifted a lot this year with my injury and I’m interested in getting this story out there but not interested in managing two channels since I don’t plan to continue talking about it once it’s in fully recovered which will likely be in another 5 months.
      I appreciate the thought though; I’m in experimental mode right now and trying not to be too hard on myself.
