      @@acecashman1237 and what hits hard is when you put yourself in your character's shoes. And this is what I love about Fallout and all RPGs (if you take it seriously) - it really hits you in the feels. When I first played thru F4, the BoS flowed thru my veins. I had so much pride in them in-game. I made sure my settlements (and my house in Diamond City) always had AT LEAST one BoS flag. I was so patriotic man. Then the moment that twist got me about MY SON being the leader of the enemy I was sworn to destroy, I didn't know which choice to make; rejoice with my son or stay loyal to the ones who've I've sworn myself too. And I admit, I turned my son away after of an hour of tears as well as writing down pros and cons of joining the Institute. But as I look back, and take myself out of the game and come back to the real world, I made a wrong choice in the game coz I worked so hard to find my own son just to turn my back on him. He's the reason I was able to get out of Vault 111. And most of all, he's my fucking kid! I'd turn my back on absolutely anyone just to have my son back. They're constantly looking for science to provide answers instead of realizing that their creations are solutions in need of a problem.
    It was like what Shaun said, the Institute doesn't need another scientist, what it needs is a leader. Someone who can correct the philosophical flaws and incorrect assumptions the Institute has. Someone who can take the Institute and turn it into what it was meant to be: A better tomorrow for everyone. Not just the Institute, not just the Commonwealth, but all of America.
    Now if only I can get them to understand that Syths are people too... Well. I've got time. And Charisma 10.

      +TheAussieBlue I do like the intentions the Institute has, but their means of going about it isn't right. I can also agree that the Institute needs a strong leader, to get it to the way it should be. I did, however, side with the Brotherhood as this group, simmilar to Lyons pride, is trying to protect the people. As I said, the Institute had good intentions, but let its creativity get out of hand.

      honestly it's hard to see the Institute as bad, misguided by science maybe but not bad. they truly think that what they're doing to people is for the good of the future, so how could you expect them to understand how the people uptop feel when they're confined to living underground with less access to the outside world than vault 101.

      Just because you have good intentions doesn't mean you can't fuck up. The most terrifying thing about Hitler was that he was actually a really nice guy. Hell the whole reason he did the whole "Murder millions of people" thing was because he thought it was the right thing to do.
      Humans are complicated, and there is no such thing as a truly evil human because no sane man wakes up in the morning and says "I'm gonna be a bad guy!"
      TL;DR Just because the Institute isn't evil doesn't mean they can't do terrible and stupid things.

    I am a tad interested in X6-88's say on this matter. He's a synth, but he considers the Institute's interests his own, he speaks of "us" and "our enemies." He obviously sees himself as a part of the Institute and not just a servant. He's ruthless and at times cold-hearted, but underneath all that I see someone who fights to protect what he values. There may very well be a perverse logic to his reasoning, but X6-88 seems to genuinely care about the residents of the Institute as well as his mission to protect the scientists he himself holds in high regard as revealed in various dialogues and approvals.
    While he may come off as a shallow killer, I actually think he may be one of the deepest characters in the game on closer inspection. Though that is my take on the matter.

I was referring to the fact that synths are treated at times as little more than slaves in the Institute so having a synth that is an ardent advocate for the Institute, even one that is a Courser, seems an interesting new angle. It could admittedly be brainwashing, but with X6-88 I get the feeling that he is too knowledgeable for such and that he has genuine reasons for believing what he does.

    Sadly the game doesn't have that dialogue option. For some reason beyond my understanding, the game treats the information about what's really happening in there obscure to henchmen.
    I think this lack of follow up is why people complain about player's decisions not having real impact despite the fact that you get to blow up BoS, Institution, and/or Railroad.

    The Institute has a lot of potential especially after the end of the game, since you'd be running the damn place. You can lead the Commonwealth into an ACTUAL technological golden age but because Todd's foresight is comparable to that of Hancock's marksmanship you get this attempt to replicate a super villain trope. Hell you can even be a Caesar 2.0 but can actually have something to contribute to the Commonwealth. It's just a shame what it is, the Institute has the setup of being the most helpful faction out of all the three (lore wise) but just got side showed into a super villain kind of organization

    Am I the only one who likes the Institute? And not just because of Shaun; their goals of preserving humanity in safety, continued social and technological progress, and erasure of the deleterious missteps of past societies are both noble and logical. The BoS are xenophobic and repress the progressive efforts of any who oppose them in an overly militaristic way. The Railroad are idealistic zealots who endanger their members disproportionately or even needlessly. The Minutemen... well, they're morally sound, but I have to put up with Preston. +ash ketchum BoS is good? Someone needs to check more of the Fallout lore. The BoS would have come to slaughter the Institute even if they used their technology for greater good. If you are a faction with a lot of high-tech, the Brotherhood will come for you. That's why they are so hated across the Wastelands and are on the deathbed in California. And let's not even start on Synth Genocide that they want to commit and a Ghoul Genocide that some like Hanckock are afraid of.
      As for Railroad, they are Synth Liberators and an anti-Institute organization rather than a force of good and Desdemona would kill half of Commonwealth if it means saving the Synths. Destroying them is a tactical choice: if you spared them, they would make peace, pretend they are friends, turn to their back-up plan where they make their own teleporter and during Airship Down, when all Institutes's forces are fighting, invade and start a slaughter. Basically, they would abuse your trust the same way they wanted you to abuse Shaun's trust. Shaun dislikes destroying them as well, as can be seen when you kill the Railroad before "End of the Line", but that's somethign unavoidable.
      At least the Railroad are prepared to die and have no civilians amongst them. The same can't be said for the other two.

    I sided with the Institute but it would of been easy to manage peace with ALL factions with a few changes in lines of dialogue.
    1: The only reason 3rd generation Synths are escaping the Institute is that Liam Binet is changing their programming. There should of been a dialogue option to inform him of the Railroad's intent and allow him to stage a breakout from within. If he destroys the Syth manufacturing process and teleports out , escaping with any free thinking synths, the Railroad will no longer have any need to exist since the source of liberated synths is gone; a peaceful end to the Railroad.
    2: When the Railroad stages a sabotage attack on the Prydwen there should of been an optional choice to place the explosives on coolant tanks rather then the hydrogen tanks. With the destruction of the coolant tanks the Prydwen's engines would overheat and shutdown; it would simply descend into the harbor and submerge the lower decks stopping vertibird flights and forcing the crew to relocate to the airstrip. Without the Prydwen and the vertibird air support the Brotherhood would not be able to stage any assault on either the Institute or the Railroad.
    I wish there were some mods that allowed a better range of ending options.

      @Alte.Kameraden Před 7 lety +13

      Institute are like the "Nazis" in the eyes of the commonwealth. For decades people have been telling horrible stories about the Institute and the Institute has done things that helped fuel/support some of those stories. Sure a lot of the gossip about the Institute isn't real but how do the common people know that? Most Companions logically would not be happy for helping the Institute, regardless whether the Institute are good or bad. It is like if you present a picture of a man in SS uniform and ask someone what they think of that man just by looks/affiliation. Then after they comment you tell a story of how that individual was actually a very good person. That is kind of how the commonwealth views the Institute. Just helping them, just being one of them makes you bad in their eyes.
      It is why I like the Institute so much. They're hated, but most of that hate is based off of rumors/gossip more than fact, when you get to know the institute it's quite a different story, save for some really bad things they did do.

    • @ReederOnTheRun
      @ReederOnTheRun Před 7 lety +5

      ***** This is true. Starting out, I totally took everything that Nick said about the Institute for fact and hated them. But with all the facts on the table, the Institute really isn't that bad at all. Their logic is sound and 99% of their faction are actually really good people. The bad things they did are also still pretty much shrouded in mystery (as far as their intentions and thought processes at the time go).
      Companions like Curie haven't been exposed to the Commonwealth rumors before you came along, so I figured out of all of them, she should be a bit more analytical about how she forms her opinions. Regardless, I was just a bit disappointed you could never explain the misconceptions they have or correct the outright false accusations (Nick is proven wrong about almost everything he says about the Institute, but you can never tell him that).
      It just seems like with companions this complex, they should've included some character development with them to take into account how "grey" these factions' moralities are.

  • @MarcusofMenace
    @MarcusofMenace Před 5 lety +4

    The perfect ending for me would probably be taking over the institute after your son dies but not destroying any factions, then I'd tell the railroad that the institute is under new management and synths won't be forced to do anything against their will and hopefully the railroad would merge with the minutemen. Then there would be two options for the brother hood, either convince them to ally with you or take over liberty prime and the prydwen without destroying them. The minutemen/railroad would protect the common wealth with the aid of some synths, the institute would produce new technology for the commonwealth and creat armies of mark 2 synths so no people will have to die fighting. The prydwen would then be used to travel throughout America and secure the country, protect people and build new and bigger settlements. Finally, a battalion of minutemen synths would be given to Preston so he could tell them when a settlement needs their help.

      ikr. At least he never brings it up again. I think he still likes the Sole Survivor as a person, but doesn't agree with their decision. my 1st playthrough I sided with institute and I felt so bad after talking to Nick and Piper that I deleted that whole save file. The only way I can justify siding with Institute is either you're role playing a character who really likes science, is used to making sacrifices for greater good (if you buy into that) or if they simply don't care

    When I sided with Institute, Danse didn't go missing; he's still at the last settlement I left him. He just won't join you as companion anymore & no dialogue other than trade option.
