Love my 2013 M109R, took it from Calgary to Vancouver and back, no problems. Even on the Coquihalla Hwy, the bike has passing power galore, so big it's like doing 120 kph on a couch. I'm 6,7" and it's still comfortable.

Suzuki did a great job with the M109, sport bike performance in a cruiser! I had a Vrod and it was kind of the same, but it didn't have the torque the 109R has. They both put out about the same horsepower (great job HD) but the torque makes the M109 more fun to ride. You know the M109r has the biggest pistons than any production car or bike on the road. Big bore to get the cubic inches and torque, and short stroke to get the revs for the horsepower. Suzuki engineers know how to make a bad azz bike!

    • @JonsMotoGarage

the old 800 intruder was designed the same. oversquare pistons and water cooled. 4 valves per cylinder. You could wind them up into the 9000 rpm range as they had no limiter. Felt like a powerband kicked in when accelerating. Won a few drag races with mine....and when you beat your buddys 1200 sportster, you dont ceel so bad riding that tiny little rocket. Ha e my eye on a 109r one day. Just gotta finish punishing my 99 Lc 1500... also hell of a bike with a bullet proof motor. Gotta love these Zukes.

I had an M109 for 13 years, and once I fitted it to me, using a gel seat, handlebar risers, switchblade pedals, Kuryakyn grips, etc., and probably most important, putting on Avon tires, it was a dream to ride. I also drilled out and debaffled the stock pipes. I rode the Hill Country roads of Central Texas, Arkansas Ozarks, Needles in Wyoming, and everywhere in between. It never once let me down. Lots of torque and power, and the Avon's let you just think about the curve ahead and effortlessly carried you right on through. The old school bikers hated it, but of course, they hated it because they didn't like looking at the taillights, all day and night. Great ride.

I have owned a 13' M109R for two years. Had it dyno tuned (ECU reflash) when i first bought it to balance out Freedom exhaust previous owner had installed. The peak numbers are necessarily impressive by todays standards. But the power curve speaks volumes how the bike makes power. From a little above 2k rpm to redline, the bike had either 100 plus lbft of torque or horsepower. If i remember the torque started dropping off around 5k to 5.5k where horsepower overtook it. Its a crazy feeling...and still makes me giggle even after 2 years! Its not peaky...just a constant pull.

    Got a 2008 C90T Suzuki Boulevard.
    1500cc
My short trips are 75 miles driving...
    My long trips 160 miles..
One thing I’ve learned between my C90T and my brother in laws HD Heritage 96 in , is Suzuki is more comfortable on my body than the HD.
    I’m almost 60 years old.
    But bikes are fun regardless.
Gets my heart jumping like a kid going 35mph ,to 105 mile per hour in third gear, quick shift into forth... and you are flying.!!!
    Still got one gear left.😅

@@JonsMotoGarage I'm not sure about that. I ride the M109R2 and a good friend has the Raider. Hard to judge with different riding styles perhaps, but the 109 always seems to be a bit smoother and quicker in the twisties, and I happily run two or three hundred mile trips with complete comfort. I find it surprisingly 'chuckable' in the curves, provided you are competent and positive with counter-steering and accept it's huge mass, planning for smooth, early entries and good lines. (Of course, all riding should be like that.) I bought the M109 after about 25yrs away from bikes (although I used to be a M/C traffic cop so I can ride okay) and it has amazed me with how user-friendly, fast and sweet-handling it is for such a massive behemoth.

The 109 will hang with any other heavy cruiser in the Twisties and carving canyons. You just need to know how to use your breaks to set it up to dive in then it accelerates leaps and bounds harder than just about any big displacement cruiser except maybe the Yamaha Roadliner. I've had mine all over Dahlonega, Ga, ripped up and down the Tail of the Dragon, Cherohala Skyway and Blue ridge Parkway, through the Smokies and all around the Mountains of NY, NH, VT and up into Maine. We trailered out to California and rode all through the Mountains of Southern and Northern Cali, Oregon and Washington, then back down Pacific Coast Highway. It is a heavy bike, but those big tires also roll over a lot and still grip when other bikes have long since been scraping, or ran out of sidewall.

      @JonsMotoGarage  Před 5 lety +1

Thanks for the comment and feedback! Much appreciated! For overall comfort and fun factor, I would opt for the Raider. Performance wise, the m109r seems to have an edge over the raider, but the reality is most of us won't be pushing the bike anywhere near those limits. Lol. One thing I can't speak to much is the maintenance side of things because I haven't owned either of the bikes long term. They both seem to get fairly good review in terms of reliability. I'd recommend checking forums to get more info regarding that side of things. Also, I've heard the new m109r boss is a lot smoother than the older models that I've ridden. Hope this helps some! Both great bikes for sure! Thanks again for the support!

I have owned a 2006 M109r and I currently own a Roadliner S (pretty much a raider) and the M109r is a much funner bike to ride. So much faster and you definitely gotta hold on. Now I highly recommend forgetting about any model manufactured 2006 to 2007. Pick up a bike from 2008 and up. The 2006 and 2007 models have issues with the drive shaft seal and 2nd gear is absolutely trash.

Do you find that the lack of a windshield is ok for 75mph (highway speed) cruising? The only thing I don't like about the 109, that is making me not sure if I want to get one, is the lack of a windscreen. I'm riding a Hayabusa currently and the wind kills me, because all the wind goes straight to your helmet and causes buffetting, so you can't really ride it without the most expensive ear plugs money can buy. Not having a windscreen means smoothing wind flow, and no loud "buffeting" or turbulence, so in theory, maybe a lot better?

Great Video I live in Australia and own a 2008 M109r and a M90 and as much as I love my 109 with the cobra’s and 260 rear end I definitely wouldn’t recommend the bike to someone new to the cruiser market even after coming from big sports bikes it’s all good and well that they might be used to the straight line grunt these things have but with a 240/260 rear end and being so hesitant to pull up quickly they have a horrible habit of getting people into deep shit over here when they realise just how long it takes to get used to how these things break and handle.
M90 is a great middle ground for people that are new to the cruiser market and still want some grunt.

This is the bike those people need that stretch out race bikes with extended swing arms and are scared of wheelies are actually looking for! All those people want(some of them, not all of them)is to look lean, and flex while riding from light to light, or sitting around, you can *do that on a sports cruiser* . For the rest of us, it's a combination of sound, that addictive torque, and just a juiced up stump pulling monster engine under our nuts. It's a very particular type of experience, nothing else provides, and nobody forgets. A lot of people don't even realize this is a thing yet, they still think there's fast in line 4's, and loud, leaky Harleys. It takes decades(sometimes longer) for the general public to understand and adopt a paradigm shift in cycling of any kind.
