  • FATUMAFUTI can sometimes be overlooked as one of the great snorkeling spots in AMERICAN SAMOA because of its easy, central location, as well as its popularity as a beach to just hang out on, but we're here to tell you that just under the surface is a whole other world full of alien-looking coral and brilliant sea creatures.
    As we snorkel along the coastline of Fatumafuti, we're always amazed by the stark difference between the lively groups gathered on the beach and the peaceful, allurement of the world below.
    That's not to say that we don't enjoy joining in on the fun, especially jumping from the protruding rocks into the cool water and building castles in the sand.
    Come along with us as we enjoy all that the beautiful Fatumafuti has to offer and then, hopefully, experience it for yourself when you get a chance.
    Tofa Soifua!

    Very nice. Great to look at those sea turtles just by snorkeling. We just spent time in the Outer Banks. Through great beautiful beaches, would not dare to swim in those rough cold waters and visibility nowhere clear like that.

    Wow, the sea turtle did it for me, I had to sub after seeing that. I am one of the unluckiest sight seers in the universe, I didn't see the turtle and shark in Vaitogi, I never saw a single dolphin while I was there, (I even went out to sea working on a long liner...)and I didn't see the whales that beached themselves either right there at Fatu ma Futi or not too far from it. You know what I did see though? I climbed a mango tree and found myself face to face with the biggest damn "bat" I never cared to see. I'm not sure how the science works, but I also got an up close and personal view of the many beautiful stars... after I hit reverse so fast that I "Mostly" fell out of that big ass mango tree.

    All of that staghorn coral is remarkable. It breaks so easily and is one of the first corals to disappear on an unhealthy reef system. Nice to see a reef with no coral bleaching.

    Laumei ma i'a is Samoan for turtle and fish. Don't know how to translate the rest of the title.
    I wonder what "futi" means... Funafuti is the capital of Tuvalu, and Tuvaluan is supposed to be very similar to Samoan.

    There’s more sea life there than I would have thought...so beautiful! For people that live on islands, Samoans seem not to be water active people!

    • @tuiesera3231
      @tuiesera3231 Před 2 lety +1

      Ah2 Ah you’re wrong about Samoan people are not water active… lm Samoan and I just did 5 miles of one man canoeing 🛶 out in the black blue water and I make sure my grandkids are in the ocean not pool.. we’re Polynesian we invented surfing 🏄‍♀️ the greatest water activity of our generation.believe me it’s real.

    • @ahh-2-ahh
      @ahh-2-ahh Před 2 lety +1

      @@tuiesera3231 it was more of my observation that I commented on.... compared to other islands. I don’t see a lot of Samoans in the water is what I was getting at. It’s really nothing to get upset about... really. U just may be one of the few I see being active. But when I see Samoan beaches... I don’t see many people in the water, is what I was saying.

    • @ahh-2-ahh

    • @ahh-2-ahh
      @ahh-2-ahh Před 2 lety +1

      @@bleebbloob4855 OHhhhh that makes sense!!!!! I totally get it!!! Oh do I knw about riptides!!!!! I hear ya! So I would assume that death counts from drowning is very low.... if any at all? Samoa doesn’t seem to have many clear sandy beaches, meaning most beaches are made up of mostly rugged rocks and plenty coral near the shore line. I haven’t seen too many beaches like the Hawaiian beach front coastlines.

    • @tuiesera3231
      @tuiesera3231 Před 2 lety +2

      Ah2Ah I’m sorry if’s my comment sounded upsetting… I was just stating that Samoan people are excellent swimmers.. appreciate the mindset of the Channel’s who always doing ocean activities and encouraging to snorkel ..lol.it’s all good 👍🏼 on my side.🤙🏿🤙🏿

  • @meismax
    @meismax Před 2 lety +1

    So sad to see so much dead coral. The fish and other animals in the sea are losing their home. Looks like some of it is a result of bleaching....due to climate change.
