- The Mountain Goats - No Children cover
Performed By Levees on Magnolia the Banjo, shamelessly boosting off TikTok trends since 2021
Several people sent me messages about how they thought John Darnielle’s voice was mine and unfortunately it is not, but that doesn’t mean I’m not gonna milk my own nasally tenor for all its gosh dang worth.

Some very cool banjo playing!
This is a beautiful cover. I have mixed feelings about this song these days. 15 years ago, I read something that made me very attached to this band, and it was about this song. I read that this song was made as a product of therapy for the writer and his then girlfriend. He (the writer) and the girlfriend had experienced a miscarriage. He had all this anger, and didn't know what to do with it. He didn't hate her, but couldn't contain his emotions. So his therapist told him to make up a story, and pour all of his emotions into that story, and this song was the result. I've recently found out that this narrative isn't true, and it kind of makes me sad. This has been one of my favorite songs for so many years, and the reason I loved it wasn't even true. It's still a great song though.
Wow. You need to do a deep dive in Mountain Goats lore on the Alpha Couple and the making of the album Tallahassee. Honestly it blows that narrative out of the water!
This deserves more recognition🌸
I love this cover! The instrument is amazing :)
beautifully done!
this is really really awesome
hey friend! I was wondering if you'd be kind enough to release chord or tab or a how-to or SOMETHING for this? I'm teaching myself banjo and trying to follow along but struggling here - trying to translate guitar chords and combine that with what you're doing here and kinda losing my mind a it. it would be much much appreciated.
Dude I wanna learn this so bad, how do I play this?
Cool I just gotta tune my 5 string to uuuuuuuhh geared 8th
cool cover, but why is your banjo so long?
