    A notable downside of the tax credit is those who don't quite qualify for the tax credit but make a BEV purchase actually loose money on a purchase on day one since buyers who qualify for the tax credit can purchase the same car new from the manufacture for up to $7500 less. Even if the car does not currently qualify for tax credit, if it qualifies for the tax credit in the future then there will be an instantaneous reduction in value of the car. This issue is definitely a purchase consideration for me. I would rather the US government provide the credit to the manufacture directly for all BEVs sold. This would eliminate the market inefficiency that is described here.

    • @peacems
      @peacems Před 17 dny

      I think you're discussing 2 different topics in the same sentence. The EV tax credit DOES go to the consumer. Instead of getting the $7500 credit when you file your taxes next year, like they did in 2023, Tesla files for the credit BUT passes 100% to the consumer at time of sale.
      You're other point I think was regarding incentivizing manufactures via tax incentives to build in the US. Local governments do this all the time to draw companies to their states to build mfg. plants, etc. This brings in jobs, revenue, spending, building homes, local property taxes, etc. Nothing wrong with that. One thing Tesla does better than most companies is that when raw materials get cheaper, they pass those savings along to the consumer, but they also adjust up quicker than others also when the reverse happens.

    • @ZaneMouakket
      @ZaneMouakket Před 17 dny

      @@peacems What I was trying to say is that the ev tax credit should go to the consumer, like how it is now, as opposed to Drew's idea of not giving it straight to the consumer.
      To incentivise things being made in the US, it's better to benefit the consumer for buying a product made in the US, compared to giving the benefit to the business for making the product in the US. This is true for the same reason trickle down economics doesn't work, you have to trust companies to give the benefit to the consumer, and they might decide to use it to increase their profits instead.
