    This is the exact moment FNAF became a franchise for children. In the desk man minigame from FNAF world, the man at the desk expresses his regret for what he has created, things he created to avoid disappointing people. He tells us that he can’t deactivate his next creation: Baby. *play baby voicelines. The man on the desk is Scott. At this point FNAF had too much potential to end, but he couldn’t keep his sanity trying to satisfy everyone with the story. The minigame ends with a black screen saying “to be continued”. It was too late to deactivate FNAF, so Scott continued the series with a new direction for a younger target audience that would keep the franchise alive and profitable.
    This channel takes heavy inspiration from ID's Fantasy, Pastra, Ryetoast, Fuhnaff, Game Theory, Dawko, Shycrow, Uhyeah, and many others, if you like my content, you'll love theirs :)

    Just to clarify, I don't consider the early games to be kid's horror because they were made more for all ages, not specifically children. I feel like that changed a bit after FNAF 3, mostly because Scott started making games purely to try to please the fanbase. The FNAF World cutscene looks like the moment Scott locked in on the new direction. I wouldn't say that FNAF is fully a kids franchise yet, but it definitely looks like it's taking that path, especially with the books.
    Sorry for paragraphing, to make up for it I'll do a little shameless plugging

    I wouldn't necessarily say that FNAF is now a kid's franchise. As you said, it's more of a hybrid between the two sides of the fandom. You have the kids and then you have the older fans who are now adults. Security Breach, while not immediately obvious, does have its dark moments and instances that have you question how the hell did this pass safety precautions.
    Take the fire ending, for example, the fact that Freddy literally pushed Vanny off the roof of the Pizzaplex, resulting in him being beyond repairing and killing Vanessa. Yes, that ending isn't canon, but the thought that Gregory envisioned something like that happening is pretty disturbing if you ask me. Let's also not forget that 3 therapists were murdered since they were all close to finding the truth about what was going on at the Pizzaplex. Not to mention, the kitchen in the Pizzaplex has a trash compactor practically in the middle of it where anyone can easily fall in. So some disturbing things have happened in Security Breach, they just so happen to have occurred behind the scenes.

    • @lecursedturtle9385
      @lecursedturtle9385 Před 7 měsíci +8

      Not to mention that in one of the therapy tapes, it's been heavily implied that Vanessa's mother commited suicide after losing custody because Bill, Vanessa's father, manipulated her into saying things against her mother in court. I think the word suicide from Vanessa's therapist was censored with a static sound effect.

    While I wouldn't really call FNAF a kids franchise, the series has certainly made it seem that way.

Look at FNAF VR, that was the first game of this new era, and was also developed by Steel Wool, yet people ignore that game when talking about the direction the franchise is going in. I feel like the games were on some level “kids” horror games from the beginning due to having such a focus on jumpscares. Don’t get me wrong most are fun, but let’s face it, a game that focuses so much on jumpscares is non scary at best and goofy at worst. As for the sci-fi concepts, I personally like stuff like remanent, but the games lost me after pizzeria simulator (granted, that’s because that was the best ending imo). To be fair, this is coming from someone who’s a sci-fi addict.

    Whether or not the beginning of Fnaf was intenddd for a younger audience or not, kids were still interested in this franchise anyway.
    Back in the days of Fnaf 2, I only heard but haven’t really gotten into Fnaf yet, however my old friends got into and couldn’t stop talking about it, and we were all in third grade at the time.
    I then looked at the franchise myself after a talk with my friends and I dug up on all the disturbing themes this franchise portrayed.
    Some kids out there like myself do like horror and gory stuff, even if it’s not really a topic kids should be exposed to.

    I also feel like a lot of people have no idea what fnaf is actually like and think it’s nothing more than kids first horror game. I think that’ll change once the movie comes out. Can’t wait to see all the Karen’s calling it demonic lol.

      I thought that it was a nod to Bonnie having red endoskeleton eyes in the first fnaf 1 trailer from 2014 but I'm fine with them being in the movie side note isn't the fnaf movie an alternate universe then the games so it would have different lore if we were going for game accurate then mike would have been purple because in the timeline that most people agree with now sister location already happened before fnaf 1 so people are out here complaining about red eyes when it's an alternate story that's just similar to the games why aren't they mad about mike not having rotting purple skin.

      @@Blue_Lambda Nice way of completely watering it down. Glowing red eyes were a red flag that FNAF has fully lost everything that made it in the first place. It's one thing if scott doesn't want his horror franchise to be horror anymore and makes hello neighbor style games like security breach, but if even the source material in the old games can't even be portrayed in the way it originally was anymore, then it's safe to say fans that liked the earlier games over the later ones have no hope anymore. The series at a point went in a completely different direction and there are many people who wish it didn't

    • @ballisticbiscuit5706
      @ballisticbiscuit5706 Před 6 měsíci

      @@Blue_Lambda if you think thats an overreaction, to put it into perspective, it's so bad now that the widely accepted opinion i see now is that fnaf was always goofy. Let me just list a few actual real comments (Not on this video, it was on another) I've read that couldn't make me angrier: "Fnaf fans finally hit puberty and have to accept that fnaf was never scary to begin with" "People like to mix up dark lore with dark presentation. Sure, the lore was dark but that's about it. The games were never like that" "I think fnaf VHS videos have caused a lot of people to remember fnaf as a lot darker than it is when in reality it was never that dark. Even the springlock cutscene which people portray as super violent was only just a sprite with some red pixels for blood" and a lot of comments that say VHS type videos are overly edgy and just generally shitting on the overall idea of wanting fnaf to be horror. Its like everyone I see now wasn't around liking fnaf at the beginning like I was or for the same things I did. And by the way, I have plenty of things to shut down everything said in those replies I listed, but I won't waste any more of your time on this already long ass unwarranted reply. So, basically what im trying to say is, the indescribable feeling the original games gave me, the tone of the series, everything i originally loved about it, has not only been lost to time, but it also gets completely belittled. I cant even talk about fnaf anymore because its portrayal and public perception are completely warped from what I loved, and so any sign that the series is not only continuing to go in this direction, but is also rewriting the tone of the only parts of it I did like, is just deeply upsetting to say the least. I would do anything for scott to make a game for the original fans again.

    Like most people in the comment (and even you), I believe FNaF was always went to a pretty wide audience, adults, teenagers or even kids. I agree with you on the fact that it became more and more open to a younger demographic (FNaF World and the books being the first step in that direction), mainly because time passes and new generations of fans join in constantly. FNaF World was also Scott experimenting with his franchise, making fun of it while also going back to his RPG style game. While the horror aspect of FNaF is its key component, I don't think it's a bad thing it became more accessible with time. The same way it became more sci-fi and less paranormal after FFPS.

Hell even Scott has hammered that theme in his story over and over again in every single game and book practically with there having been 3 of something only for a 4th one to be inferior and then broken apart only to then turn into a monstrosity that then funnily enough always somehow gets sidelined to Afton's story. lets all be honest, this series did end with fnaf 6, it, just like afton, died that day in the fire, the series died with him, but in some perverse imitation of its own antagonist, it came back, springtrap, a splayed mess of metal and rotting flesh, like the series at that point, had his rotten, burnt circuit boards being revived into a new, diluted form, no longer himself, but a defiled replica, just like the series itself at that point, that just kept mediocrely marching forward, taking over the minds of those vulnerable, eternally being alive, but dead. just like Michael said in Sister Location "I (the series) should be dead, but i'm not". sorry for rambling but i couldn't help noting the thematic parallels of coming back but still being dead.

    I'd say it's after Sister Location.
    As Fnaf World was supposed to be "misleading" but scary once you go deep into it.
    Sister Location I believe was the last good game.
    But it was a hard topic to do.

  • @jerichode
    @jerichode Před 7 měsíci

    This is super interesting, because, I don't know if I can pinpoint when it became for kids. It definetly did dumb down near sister location but I wouldn't say it was for kids.
    FNaF World is such an anomaly because on one hand it's very much a kids game but that's such a surface level reading of it. And on the other hand you have some of the realest emotional beats being delivered by the literal creator of the series.
    I think sister location began to pander to kids but I think probably UCN or AR is when it really pivoted to being a kids game.

      I think what happened was that the levity of Sister Location began to increasingly trump the horror elements of the series. It was initially a way to add some heart to the unnerving nature of the underground Sister Location bunker; I remember Scott saying something about how previous titles had put him in something of a bad headspace, since the entire franchise pre-FNAF World was pretty grim conceptually, so I assume that adding some humor likely helped him to not burn himself out on horror games. However, that levity and style of humor gradually took a life of its own until it became something of a crux for the series.
      I wouldn't say anything before Security Breach was a "kid's game", at most I'd say games like UCN were for general audiences. I just think that the series was increasingly sacrificing dread and eeriness for humor and character. I think it would be pretty easy to course-correct the franchise back into horror, but I don't think they really wanna do that.

      The phone calls were increasingly sad especially night 4, the honk was fine i wont disagree, he got fired for odor most likely because either A: this takes place within a childs dream or B: He was already scooped at that point and probably was made of mostly rotting tissue.

    Common ,fnaf is not only an adults or kids,fnaf was meant for all ages ,teens,kids,adults,every age,fnaf was given life from scott cawthon genius idea,and the games grew becasue all ages fans like the theme,and the first fans like it,but the games grew more because teens ,and then kids and adults started to like the frainchise and fnaf grew lot more because the franchise games grew,and stayed to get books and awsome funko merch and all series became and iconic franchise for all ages and thats why fnaf is awesome, is for any age and for anyone who enjoys the animatronics designs and more content it grew and became awsome

    I feel like pizzeria simulator was the one meant for the highest age group of all of them. Sure it had a lot of goofy childish stuff, but in terms of the main survival gameplay and story of it all, it just feels like its not at all meant for children.

    I run a five nights at freddys account with a decent amount of followers, the mojoraty of people i talk to are 15-20. I have only seen 2 kids on my page. Security breach was childish, but fnaf has only gotten darker. My ex nearly threw up from one of the books because of how dark it was. There was a poll for the fnaf fans ages, the end results were the majority of fnaf fans are 15-17. So no, fnaf is not for kids, if it wete for kids it wouldnt resolve around child murder, the books wouldn't mention drugs, and yes, one of tbr books has a sex scene. So age ratings of games, lore, statitics, and polls will tell you fnaf is not for kids and barely any kids play it. I have done research and thats what i have to say.
