- Is Canyon’s new Lux Trail the best downcountry mountain bike you can buy?
The redesigned Lux Trail is more than just a new front end bodged onto the existing rear triangle of a cross-country race bike, as the old Lux Trail was.
Instead, this new bike is a purpose-built downcountry machine, one that's far more capable and versatile than you may think.
Sure it’s got lightly treaded tyres, dinky brake rotors and a steeper head angle than the internet says is cool, but do all those things help this bike fly, or hold it back?
Join Alex Evans as we take to the trails and deliver our verdict on the new Canyon Lux Trail CFR LTD.
Would you buy the new Lux Trail or a different downcountry bike? Do you even like the term ‘downcountry’?

What do you think of the new Lux Trail? Let us know in the comments!
Dunno, I haven’t ridden it… I came here so you could tell me about it!
The gushing promo video is painful to watch, how many cliches can you get in one video, there are much better options out there from transition, norco, specialised, trek, giant and yeti to name a few. It’s does have price on its side.
@@shaun1900 where did you get a test ride?
@@Mockle07 guy at the local club owns one, took it for a 30 minute ride.
@@shaun1900 … sounds legit 😂
Is that saddle ok? Doesn’t look well…
Alex prefers a nose-down, forward position for his winch and plummet take on riding around his Tweed Valley trails, they are pretty steep!
Did you guys have the chance to compare the new Lux Trail to the 2023-2024 Orbea Oiz? If pedaling/climbing performance on any kind of terrain (asphalt to technical trail climbs) would be the top priority, what would you choose between the two?
that seat angle makes me question the bikes geometric rideability.
Alex does like a nose down saddle position, but that's just personal preference
So this is a modern XC bike.
I agree …. More xc bike
In a way it reminds me of my fifteen year old Stumpjumper FSR. That was also a longer travel XC at the time and it was actually really fun, but most importantly it was all the bike i needed. I could rip around fast flat Xc trails or take it to Wales for some trail fun. They have the suspension numbers right.
Yep, this, the new Epic, Scalpel etc are cutting edge XC bikes and we are LOVING them!
Jack of all trades bike for 8k is "good value". Yeah that happened.
Good value is all about context, especially so with high-end bikes.
Compared to the new Specialized Epic Evo 8 Pro for example, which "only" gets X0 Transmission, lower grade brakes, cheaper DT Swiss hubs, cable post, not AXS, so in comparison to that, it is good value for the money in question.
The Lux Trail is a good allround bike, arguably a jack of all trades in that it is very competent in a host of situations.
Is this £8K the best value of the range and the bike we'd buy? No, we'd go for the CF7 at £3199, which is cheaper and will offer pretty much all of the performance of this bike, with a small weight penalty
The look of the bike seems to be very heavily forcused on function, but it looks kind of strange with the steep seat tube and what appears to be a very low standover. The colour charts for these new Luxes also are a bit strange, not sure why they are going for the two tone fade on many CF models. It just looks odd. I think Canyon , and all manufactures , need to understand that bikes at this price now are very expensive and whoever buys them need sthe bike to be near perfect, as they will be a much longer ownership proposition than in the past. The price has to be right, the colour has to be right, the spec has to be right. In short they need to completely pull it out of the bag and i don't think they have.
Some very fair points!
Beauty will always be in the eye of the beholder, but you are absolutely right, when spending a lot on a new bike, you want it to be the whole package; looks, performance, practicality, reliability and value
£8k+ " good value for money" 😂😂😂
+1

@@bikeradardude you industry guys need to STOP this annoying trope. It's not context, the industry desperately needs to wake up before there isn't one. Bikes and parts NEED to get cheaper not more expensive. When there are Polygon bikes providing better value than every other company that should be a wake up call. Customers are starting to notice but the industry and snobs aren't listening.
The bike manufacturers takes us for pigeons…
Look at the prices of bikes! It’s the prices of an old car now!!
They have gone crazy since the covid!
Bike prices have been on the rise for a while and while this model cost £8k, the range starts from £3,199 for the CF7 model, which while it lacks the fancy wireless bits, is a brilliant bike, just like this one
Please compare to the Pivot Mach 4SL (120)
We'd love to!
12kg for an xc bike is at least a kilo and a half to heavy 🙂
@@200KCycling ? The epic is like 10.4kg with Flight attendant configuration, if you run the same 3pos suspension as on this bike, its just at, or slightly below 10kg even, and add the lighter tires and you can drop another 400g, since it does not come on the lightest casing. But yes, the Lux is definitely a "burlier" bike
that is too much PERIOD, my Orbea Oiz with PNW dropper, XT brakes and 2 bottle cages was 10.5kg, If you go to xtr/level ULT/CuraX that's -150g, fox transfer sl is another 100... For 8000pounds this is unacceptable @@200KCycling
This is a more capable "down country" bike though, so naturally it will be heavier. The equivalent Lux World Cup CFR is under 10.5kg, so horses for courses!
10:07 уже краску протерли башмаками
Its 2022 Neuron
It might look similar on paper, but they are very different bikes to ride!
£8K!!??!!
It's not cheap for sure, but the range kicks off at just over £3k with the CF7 model, which is the one we'd choose
The timing of talking about a “definitive Downcountry bike” just days after the Epic and Epic Evo launched… 😬
We'd love to put the two head to head, but we need more time on the Epic to really dig into it's performance
@@bikeradar yeah I completely understand that; it wasn’t a complaint, just timing. I’d be really interested in how the Epic 8, 8 Evo and this Canyon compare.
The new Epic 8 has 120mm rear suspension. A bit out of place with 115mm travel for a down country bike for the new bread of DC bikes
You mentioned that like it is 25mm difference and not 5mm...
😅
lmfao
Jesus Christ! 😂
depends on how the shock is set up, the previous Giant trance had 115mm travel and it was supposed to be a burly trail bike.
It's not how much you got, it's what you do with it 😉
So basically, overpriced, heavy, abysmally stupid cockpit.... WITH ALUMINIUM WHEELS ON 8K XC BIKE LOOOL
The wheels are carbon DT Swiss XMC 1200 models and without the accessories, the weight is very competitive for a downcountry bike.
We're inclined to agree on the cockpit though!
8k£ FOR WHAT??? What a clown world

What a clown show, just a video sponsored by Canyon about an average at best bike. There are sooooo many better options out there.
None of our reviews are sponsored by bike brands; we review bikes completely independantly, Canyon did not sponsor this video, or pay us to say anything about the bike.
For sure there are other bikes available, including other bikes within the Lux Trail range, like the base CF7, that we would say represent better value and you could argue performance for the money.
Likewise, there are other bikes out there to choose from as well; New Epic, Transition Spur, Trek Top Fuel, Pivot Mach 4 SL, it's great to have more options to choose from
The delivery of the presentation is so wooden and fake. They should not rely on reading the script word for word to be more natural. It’s not very engaging as is.
This dudes voice is irritating as. Who talks like that with the constant inflection? Yer not reading a bedtime story to children
I keep hearing this sort of comment. “Wake up” how is 8k on a bike, good value for your money. 😮🫣😱
