no , turning into a stupid giant fish wasn't really what he had planned. in case you haven't noticed , after the battle , he says " damn Excella , guess I wasn't worth the good stuff " . from his perspective , he was going to be given a BETTER virus that didn't result in a horrid appearance. he cared about the abilities and the power.
It is called having nothing else to live for. At this point, he felt he was better off taking this route. Though, I seriously don't think he knew the drastic outcome by injecting it. As irrational as it may seem, many are wiring to take drastic outcomes when cornered in life, for the better, but more often, for the worse

Ways Irving had, to kill Chris and Sheva:
1) Destroy The Ship.
2) Drag the ship to the bottom of the Sea.
3) Turn the ship over.
4) Attack them directly, but without opening his "Crocodile Like Mouth", exposing himself to an attack.
It is obvious that for Tricell, Irving was nothing more than a puppet, he can't even kill his enemies served on a silver platter.
Those rivertine gunship is heavy, well cladded, and armed to the teeth. The best bett would be no 4.
2:27 There's a timeline out there where, at that moment, Irving happily swam off to a new life as a kraken while Chris and Sheva kept standing there, wondering what that was all about.

Battles are VERY different. Yeah, salazar is a little ironic, but Irving makes fucking fun of chris and sheva, shamelessly, he just bursts into laughter on their faces without hesitation

Never understood why Ricardo injected himself with the plaga. Jill wasn't there to force him, neither were any Majinis. He loved money more than anything, and he could have just surrendered to Chris and Sheva, telling them that I have been betrayed and I don't want to be part of this anymore. In exchange for, say, immunity where his crimes are thrown out of the window and he gets to keep his wealth, on the condition he never takes part in the bow black market again , ricardo tells them about Excella and Tricell's involvement in with the plaga outbreak and of the Uroboros project

I love the cliché that always repeats on these games.
The heroes point their guns at the enemy and tell them to stop. The villain ignores them and does whatever they are supposed to do to become stronger. And what do the heroes do? Keep pointing their guns and wait patiently until the gameplay starts.

You want the main character to kill the bad guys before they do anything in a custcene? That wouldn't have any sense.

I had this Jhen/Dah'ren feeling over the fight, Capcom found it worth reusing a concept similar to Irvin for the fight against the two monsters when MH3 and MH4 came out I suppose.

As much as i love most of the boss fights in resident evil games, super virus or not, it is extremely unrealistic that a virus can mutate a human body to more than a hundred times its own bodyweight!, especially not in this short period of time. Even in the best of cases, Irving could only grow to a maximum of three meters and gain a little more than twice as much body mass if realism would play a role.
Tbf, if realism played a role, most of the resident evil bosses and mechanics wouldn't exist at all.

@@tattletalestrangler8084 Excella is another example of this. She sucks in like 20 bodies and then grows to be as large as the entire military yacht.
Also irvin could just penetrate the ship's hull, or topple it over. As impressive as chris and sheva are, its difficult to fire a giant sea monster with guns when youre swimming in the middle of the sea. That way, he doesnt have to worry about getting shot by the gatling guns on the ship.
Well then I'm glad realism isn't taking its toll here. Realism is a stupid mechanic in life

I like how its meant to be apparent that these 'people' that inject themselves with god knows what are meant to be like scientific geniuses etc, yet they fail to realise that they will eternally be stuck as either: an immobile creature (this one is exclusive to the sea only XD) or a blob of mass and whatnot... a real genius would create something that i guess would give the user/villain eternal power and able to shapeshift...
Wesker did succeed in turning himself into a proper superhuman, apparently in RE canon only people with certain genetic conditions don't turn into giant tumors or mindless animals when injected with doomsday viruses
