I'm so glad...or shall I say... grateful.. I phound this channel. Keep it up! Thank you!
youre cool!
I just discovered your videos today and I am blown away at how well they are played and explained. You are opening up a whole other world to me my friend. Much like how Jerry did. Some theory and chord structures plus a whole lotta heart and soul = Jerry. Thanks for all your amazing lessons.
In 20 years of learning tabs and watching tutorials I'm loving your attention to "the mindset" in all your videos. Really helping, thanks!
Soooooo happy the channel exists. So amazing. Thank you!!!
I love that I follow exactly what you are doing. I had all these tools and you've helped me apply them. Thank You!
I've just got to tell you, thanks so much for putting this stuff out there. You're the only teacher I"v found who really teaches the meat of what many players need to know, in order to play like our idols. I started playing a couple of years ago after going on tour for a couple of years and something sparked within me. I had to start playing. It was really the Guitarist from the Disco Biscuits that made me want to play the guitar. I've started trying to go back to fundamentals that I skipped over when I first started "playing" That's when I came across your videos, and thank God I did! I have since purchased your blues masterclass part 1 and after only two weeks my playing has advanced far beyond what I could have done in two years blending all the teachers on CZcams together, like I used to. I don't know maybe you just fit my style. Anyway, thank you. You don't know what it means to me. Have you ever considered putting out a video of in the mind of Jon Gutwillig "The Barber" From the Disco Biscuits? Hate him or love him, dudes got something going on, that I would like to know about. It might be a challenge for you to think about... If you're ever at red rocks for a show let me know. We should meet up for a second. You're one of my new idols you Trey and Barber. Top three ever! Epic stuff!
I really appreciate the music you choose to do lessons on. thank you!
I love this lesson. I keep coming back to it. Your lead at the start is great.
Thank you so much! One of the reasons I became a Patreon. Your videos are fantastic. Iâve been coasting for the longest time and your videos and meaningful instructions are taking me to a whole new level.
I've been looking for someone that gives easy instructions on how to play Jerry's lead stuff. Finally found the right channel. Thanks!
My playing has been growing by leaps and bounds ever since I started learning jazz. I'm all over the neck now and my rhythm game is getting strong! Love your videos! I'm going to have to start studying Trey and Jerry. My brother was a Dead Head and followed the Dead all over the country for like 3 -4 year up until Jerry died. I think my bro even got a picture with Jerry at Niagara Falls not too long before he died.
this is the first video I've ever found that i left feeling like I could actually jam on a scale other than the minor or major pentatonic. Thank you so much, swapping between chord changes and hitting chord tones makes sense now more than someone just telling me hit the chord tones
Welcome to Stichmethod! Hope you enjoy the rest of the Dead stuff
I love the way that CZcams read my mind and recommended this video to me! Awesome stuff, first time seeing your videos, nicely done and explained well! Thank you!
You are simply the best as well as another guy out here who seems to use the same approach for dead . You are both extremely informative and explanatory. Thanks so so much. The years of alternate picking and scale study are coming in handy and organized by your method
Thanks so much for posting this lesson....its wonderfully informative and masterfully taught.
Wow, really amazing lesson. I actually understood everything and didn't feel like i was being talked down to like some other youtube lessons. Helped me out a bunch!
Just came back to this video about a year after I had first watched. It was too much back then. Now that I've learned the scales, it's all starting to make sense now and I'm playing along! Seems so simple. Go figure. Thanks much!!!
Hey, just recently discovered your channel and I am blown away. Like you said, I am really only intermediate level player and Jerry's lead playing especially just boggles my mind, thank you so much this is incredibly helpful!
Fantastic! Really appreciate your breakdown!
This is fantastic, my friend and I were just noodling around with Bertha the other day and I was thinking "I really need to work on that transition to the chorus!" thanks so much bud! will keep watching!!
Love the lesson. Always loved the song and the jam. Getting closer to making music!
.
terrific lesson breaking it down in ways others haven't been able to... thanks
Love all your lessons! Thanks man.
Very nice! Thank you for clarity!!
Nice solo at the beginning! One of my favorite songs
so great! i found i was in the right zone but stuck in noodleville-now iâm ready to craft a cool version of this iconic dead song. thank you so much!!â ïžđčâ ïžđč Both the song subject and myself are big fans!!
WHOAH! You Rock! Grateful.
nice!! always love learning jerry licks. thanks
You have great "Jerry" chops my friend. Thank you for the demo.
thank you so much I'm learning soo much from your videos..
LOVE IT!!!
Great approach keep up the good work!!
Thank you so much opened a whole new World for me really appreciate it.....
Discovered you with Sean, this popped up on my sidebar and I have been wanting to study that Jerry Garcia sound and this is the tits. Complex but simple, thank you for this piece. Have it bookmarked, you are a great down to earth instructor. I look at the scale as an E minor but hit the G as the root as I am finally forcing myself to play in the Major scales after all these years, thoroughly enjoyed this lesson, I am now subscribed to you, many thanks Mr. Stich!!!
Great videos, thank you!
Love your vids, man. Love this song. I first really heard it from the Los Lobos version on Deadicated - okay, Iâm not an original Deadhead. They toggle between C and F when the song goes to C, which gives it more of a G mixolydian feel. When in doubt I also just play C major pentatonic over the C. Canât miss. Of course, if I get confused I just listen to the music play.
this helped me a lot
Holy shit! Amazing lesson! I never understood jerrys style but I love it so much. Thank you so much for putting in perspective.
Great video and trey and john do bertha great!!
You my friend just got a new sub! Thanks for the lesson
You are kicking ass at teaching on youtube! Its amazing how much I've cleaned up my playing by watching your blues videos. It would be sick if you made a lesson on Brown eyed women from dead and co⊠an amazing intro to that song that I'm definitely missing some notes on. Also interested in some FaceTime lessons soon.
I LOVE U
FINALLY GREAT VIIDEO-HOW-TOS FOR GRATEFUL DEEEAAAAD YEEEESSSS THANK YOU MAN
gonna come out when i'll play like jerry see y'all in a few hundred years
Just found your channel man love the dead stuff and how you explain things..
Iâve been watching your videos old to new up to this point and Iâve gotta say itâs been superb helpful intuitive and funky fresh I got blistas on my phingas awesome good time show thank you very much sir you rock!!!
I will watch them all I promise
Dope! This lesson helped me so much. Would love to see you give some tips on soloing over Althea and Dark Star.
Be cool to live in the apartment next to this dude, solid live tunes all day. Keep up the phun tunes
thank you!
you're the greatest. MORNING DEW PLEASE! :-D
you know he can play a good Jerry-esque solo when he even flubs a lyric! Cheers man
Great lessons, hard to find a good teacher on CZcams for dead & phish stuff. Hey can you do a lesson/tutorial about soloing or improvising to The Other One?
Might be my favorite Dead tune. Just makes me smile. There's a great version from 4-12-78 with video that I recently stumbled across. I highly recommend checking it out
One of my fave Dead tunes, too. Always makes me smile. Los Lobos does a killer version, too.
Thanks AOB, after 30 years of Deaddom, I thought I'd heard all the best Berthas. this just rocketed into my top 5
Mine too. Is it about the fan or about trying to escape the cycle of reincarnation?
please more lessons like this one.. it's just what I need to progress forward. I'm stuck on a plateau of skill and need to climb lol
Thank you for this lesson! One day I hope to play as YounĂšs Grandjean, it's my dream
Terrific lesson
RLB52 youâre terrific
Hey man!! Love these videos, youâre energy is definitely transferred through your videos. I was wondering what guitar/pedals/amp settings you use to get your Grateful Dead tone because itâs killer
Thank you man! You have definitely provided a missing link in my playing.
Banjo player here !!!! Requires a bit of tweaking to adapt, but finding these very insightful !!!!
Pink Sparkles!! LMAO. Made it exciting hahaha
I love the Los Lobos lead by Ceaser on this song...
Wuz playin along with the D&C stream and I noticed that Mayer is sometimes going with the change and soloing in C maj Diatonic, then back to G maj scale along with the change, but then again he will stay in G some other times. Very interesting colors and passing tones.
This is a great video! I sent you an email on your website for lessons. Great job!!
Thanks for your great lessons...could you do a "In the mind of" about st stephen...just love the orginal song and with what john mayer/wilco have done with it live. Thanks again
I've been looking for lessons like this for ages - amazing love it!! Thanks!!
Can we expand on this pleeeease. Also can you please do one on birdsong ! Much love Ian. From Canada!
Hey Stitch I been digging these Dead videos. Why not do a more general Jerry lesson, specifically about some scale sequence patterns to practice to get the similar feel and phrasing? Thanks from Jersey
Love the improve lessons, have you ever thought of dissecting any of Trey/Jerry's composed pieces? Namely trying to muster up the motivation to learn Help on the Way>Slipknot. Would be a doozy of a lesson, but would be forever grateful for it!
Your cat wasn't impressed by that solo, but I am!
Hey I love your channel! I was hoping you might use an audio interface and Ableton Live or something to direct record your videos like this?
There are awesome looping functions in Ableton and it would be so sweet to hear your tone the way you do
Thanks for the lesson. I think you could re-do some of these old videos. Your audio and video is better quality theses days.
Hoping to get to this level soon. I really want to learn to solo. I need to really practice scales.
Watch my newest video
Please do Eyes of the World.
yessssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey - thanks for a great lesson. You and Marty Schwartz - super appreciate you guys.
I'm sure we met in a parking lot at a dead/phish show in some state one year.
We both had hair then.
Keep it up brother.
Much obliged.
Hey man I hope you see this comment. I love your videos, especially these Grateful Dead ones. Anyways, I really need help with my Jerry tone. Right now I have a small fender mustang amp and a telecaster. I can ballpark the sound I want put theres no pop to it. Nothing like Jerry had or even you for that matter. Any advice on settings? Even if there's more equipment you'd recommend let me know. Anything will help, thanks man.
Can someone explain to me what he means by the e-minor scale shape? I know the 5 minor penta shapes but this looks like a major scale (Prob because it's in G major)? Ive been looking through stitches playlist but cant seem to find the lesson where he teaches this shape. Also is there a stitch video that shows the shapes of the major pentagon scale like he did for the minor penta scale? The only one i was able to find is the major/minor never lost lesson. Thank you!
Nice stuff,
Jerry seems to very much follow the melody like a country player ( Willie Nelson comes to mind) - way more than a blues based guy like Page.
Not confusing if you know what notes are safe within the chords, Just amazingly difficult to hit stuff clean and sweet like Jerry on a good night
Yep. Abanjo player and teacher,
So he would be brought up on chord tones as you basically have just the 3 major chord notes on the open strings of a 5 string bluegrass banjo tuned to open G
miamistomp agreed.. key is "on a good night" ... some tours were more tonal than others, some nights less focused than others
thanks!!!
i learn more when I stop listening to his calling out each and every freaking note. Excellent tutorial. Really sorry for the bitchin
trey suxcks. Mayer rules
i say that with much love
lol
planning on seeing any dead and co this upcoming tour?
Great videos. Can you do one to I know you rider? Same scale as bertha?
sweeet...hook it up!
Hey stitch! I have emailed u before about a lesson question. Is there any better way to get to u easier?
Hey, would you mind teaching us how to solo over GDTRFB?
Old as dirt comment but a good starting point is E major and just hitting them chord tones like in this video. Getting the major scale down pretty well will skyrocket you near Jerry land.
"just awesome with it"
Thanks,,,, I always found this tough to FAKE my solos overâŠ.
You won't see this but are you playing those C bar chords with your pinkie holding down 3 strings? I
Does anyone knew the strumming pattern just for the beginning part I am new so I canât exactly figure it out
Jam on
If there's no F# in the progression, how do you know it's not in the key of C?
Also, on the quick chord run you mentioned that hitting the root note on that G and Am didn't sound that great. Do you always generally target the 3rd of the chord your changing to, when those roots become redundant?
Well, that was fast. Thanks for the quick reply. I was just checking out your video on Kill Devil Falls. Very cool.
2:57
CAT!!!
Wanna jam like Jerry, Trey, or Mayer? It's all about learning the Major, Minor, Egyptian, Major Blues, and Minor Blues Pentatonic Scales (the black keys on the piano)... the foundation of Jazz, Blues, and Rock.
Nice! Just came across your vids...We like the same stuff...I have some vids...check them out...
the secret is not to use the pinky....
2:38 "So, here's the Deal"... what? I thought this was on Bertha!
Sorry! :-P
