THANK YOU! Finally somebody that showed the relations between pentatonic scales and chords. You have no idea, how necessary this video is.
Best lesson in CZcams history right there.
I’ve been a player most of my life. Watched a bunch of instructors on you tube but I have never ever come across someone who could get me inside my head so fast. It’s unbelievable, stitch is a bloody genius. I’m 75 and I am a stitch fan and follower for the remainder, which I hope is a long time! God bless you man!
Awesome to hear Jim! Keep rocking
I'm glad you're back!!!!!!!
Yes!
I also like to play the vocal melody as a guitar solo, example Santana, Let the Children Play.
Stich ,I,m 70 yrs. have been a dead Head from the beginning, and you r the one that keeps me going you amaze I learn something from every video Thanks Man ,u r a excellent Teacher, your the Bombdigadee Dude.
You're one of the best teachers on the planet. Finally someone who makes it SIMPLE. BECAUSE IT IS!
The helicopter was searching for the best guitar teacher on youtube. Pilot is probably blind. We already found the dude 😊. Thank you for teaching us so much. Gtrz Fab.
THIS. This is the key I’ve been missing. I’ve been playing for probably 20 years. I can memorize songs no problem but I always struggled with soloing and improvising. This helps!
Yah
Had to save this. 30 years, been on stages, but it all by ear...
😮
Glad you're back, your lessons are a huge inspiration for me to sit down and practise the guitar.
This is unlocking to me Loving it.
Cool
I’m a guitar teacher myself, and I still always learn something helpful from your videos. Our love of the same music. Well Done 👍 Thank you
Better to say, I am a student of guitar who happens to also teach some stuff.
@@UTAH100 why? Would that be better. “Some Stuff” who are you
@@UTAH100 Thats quite an unnecessary comment.
Glad to see you back. Your tips always hit home and make sense to me and also inspire me. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Wow, what a fun and easy to follow lesson. Within minutes I've been playing to backing tracks in a different, and maybe more musical, way. Keep up the great work!
My first guitar teacher used to say "just play the bottom four strings, the other two are for the bass player". Now I know what he meant.
That’s a nice tip.
Bottom of guitar but top of the staff. Music language is complicated.
@@trevortully7179 It sure is. Another thing that screwed me up and still does, is the high and low strings. I cant get it out of my head that the "high" e string is the top E string, and the "low" e string is the bottom one. I know, its weird, but to me the high one is on top, and the low one is on the bottom.
My friend taught himself to play guitar holding it upside down. He said it made more sense to him to have the thinnest strings the farthest from his reach, than the thicker ones. So when he reaches, he doesnt have to press as hard. Pretty warped, but he was a gifted singer and songwriter so I guess if it works, it works.
@abraxas511 with the guitar in your lap, hold it up in front of your face and flip it so the fretboard is facing towards you. That's how you gotta picture the fretboard. The low E is on the bottom. I also think about it like the low string is the bottom string. Of course it's the opposite of your right hand picking motion where down is actually towards the floor.
@@trevortully7179nah. Musicians need to stop referring to their higher frequency strings as the bottom. Those are higher notes and therefore your higher, upper, or top strings. Your lower frequency strings are your lower or bottom strings. Up and Down needs to always be referred to in terms of frequency for the musician.
This clicked with me in a way that a thousand other things over the course of decades never have. Thank you - this is really fantastic.
So glad you’re back. You’re the reason why I bought my beloved PRS guitar and your lessons and calm nature is inspiring.
Dude, this lesson was absolutely mind blowing. You really opened up something for me. Thank you so much for the post!
Great lesson. I struggle with chord tones, and this definitely helps. Thanks, and welcome back, missed ya.
That was the most helpful thing I’ve ever seen on guitar. Thank you. I’m blown away. It’s like I should have thought of it, so simple. 🙌❤️🤙
Thanks for breaking that down. I've heard people refer to just playing the "box" and didn't realize it's essentially the lower portion of the pentatonic "E" shape.
I love your stuff. you've improved my guitar playing by far! thank you!
Hey Brother, Great lesson as always. You have the gift to break things down that makes it easier to understand! Have a safe journey. Peace n Love to you Brother!❤
Well, that was super helpful! Thank you sir, you always make it simple and straightfoward
So happy to have you back!
I'm excited to watch this a bit later!
I'm glad you are back. I LOVE your videos. You have a gift for teaching and making breaking things down.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Excellent framework for keeping up and staying within the chord changes. This will help my solos sound more musical and less like I'm practicing a scale!
Absolutely one of the best explained and easiest to understand lessons I have evvver had the pleasure to watch and listen to. A few minutes, yet worth yeeears of struggles. Thank You sooo much. 🙏🙏🙏😊😊😊
Great lesson, Ian. Happy to see new lessons from you!
All it takes is one explanation or way of teaching something and somehow it clicks. I’ve heard so many things about soloing over this and playing over that and none of it made sense because it gets cluttered and lost in the tedious process. This was a very basic but informative (huge) lesson that has opened a door that will lead to other doors and greater expand what you’ve taught here. Thank you.
Loved the lessons. Always a blessing to find somone who can explain music in a way my brain understands. ✌️
Thanks Ian! This really clicked. It's not the only way nor necessarily the best way, but as you say, it always works and is easy to get started. I've been jamming to a few backing tracks with this and have taken a major leap forward in lead playing. I'm the rhythm guy who gets to take a solo now and then, and that's fine. But... Band hasn't rehearsed for a week - next week they might be surprised :-)
I loved this lesson. A thing that many struggle with or are running into a wall, this lesson gently and effortlessly makes the wall fade away.
Missed you, buddy! This is exactly the thing I have been working on / struggling with. Great timing!
Wow this was one of the clearest and best lessons I have seen in 18 years...thank you...subscribed!
Hi from London, UK!
Firstly, thank you for creating such a simple, easy to follow video. I’ve been playing for 30 years and am super average having never had lessons / dedicated more time to it.
I’ve pledged to get better over the coming years using CZcams, and videos like this are so handy - thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge!
Finally, keep the beard - Jerry G would no doubt look on admirably.
Peace ✌🏼
Blew me away ....
Thanks for taking time and clearly describe the things for us ....love from Dhaka Bangladesh....keep rocking.....
Glad you’re back with a new video! Your content is always very insightful 🙌
Brilliantly simple. Great job! Thank you! 🙏
Great way of putting it into words. The concept was never the problem, it was making the connection for me. So thanks for that. Awesome video.
Thanks a million. Finally I get it :) It's all come together now. What a relief! Since watching your video I can now play along and improvise beautifully to ALL those old songs I just gave up on in the past. This tutorial is heaven sent. Thank you so very much.
A+
I have watched a lot of videos and there is something about your method of teaching or explaining that rings well and is easy to comprehend and understand. Much appreciated.
Wow! Thank you so much for this. I'm a first time visitor to your page and I've been struggling for a long time to try a get a simple method to allow me to play simple solos which sound great. Much appreciated.
Best lessons ever! No one explains better than you. Thanks.
Simple, elegant, Genius way to present this! Thanks!!!
Exactly what I was looking for to up my playing and knowledge of the caged system and playing over chords in a progression. Thank you!
Let's go! Love to see you back man, had me worried for a bit - thanks for the great video and being the best guitar teacher I've never met :)
Great to have you back Ian! Awesome lesson, thanks!!
Yes, great breakdown of keeping with the chord changes, making it come together of what we learned.
So simple and easy to follow! Great video
Excellent method full of wisdom. Thanks
SOOOOO glad you are back. Youre like my daily cup of coffee. ALWAYS great info!!!!!
I'm just starting back up after years this is the best start in explanation and exercise I've come across. So sensible 😊
Thanks, Ian. It's always a welcome sight to see one of your videos pop up in my feed. Great lesson. Looking forward to seeing more new videos. Keep them coming, please.
This short lesson helped me a lot. Thanks!
Love stitch method. I don’t often comment, I just wanted to say how much I appreciate the friendly, easy going, way in which you explain these tips and lessons. Thanks a bunch. Too often is the case that many youtubers come off a little arrogant. That’s no way to sell their product. And definitely no way to teach.
Stitch, glad to see you're well brother. Keep up the lessons!
Your an hour away from where I live in Alfred ,Ontario. Welcome and nice to see you making videos again! You have gotten really great as a guitar instructor and as a nice human being! Thanks for what you do!
This is really good! I learned a ton from your video. So many teachers say to use certain scales, modes, etc, but rarely say WHEN to use them. ‘Play the changes!’ And now i have some tools to do it. Thank you!!
Amazing lesson - can’t wait to try this out! You also have a really friendly and warm demeanor :)
Great beginner lesson, Ian! Once folks get this down, the next step is playing all of the chord tones for each chord in the same spot, and there are numerous spots, so there's a lot to learn, but it's doable!
Great lesson! Thanks for sharing!
What a great lesson! 👏
STICH you dont even know man. you taught me more about improv more than any teacher out there! all you past grateful dead videos have made me 100x better of a player! plus with 2 dollar pdfs u cant beat that! thank you !
This lesson is so good!!!!!!! Thank you for sharing
I love your stuff and I can’t wait to get to grips with this!
*Good to see you again my friend! Love watching your videos since day 1* ❤🎸🥇
You're a great teacher!! This is a big help!!!
Great lesson, thanks Ian! Awesome to see you back at it.
Great lesson. Remember students want/need to see what both of your hands are doing. Thanks!
I like this approach. I appreciate you explaining it.
As everybody pleased to see you back and thanks for this lesson. Played for years before I was even aware of chord tones. Thanks a lot
Probably your best lesson to date. Thank you.
This is exactly what I needed! Thank you!!
One of your most effective videos for me, thanks so much. This really just made so much sense.
The best chord soloing lesson I’ve watched on CZcams. Thank you!
Awesome lesson! Good to see you back. Have a great time out on the road! Keep on truckin’
Beautiful work as always, cheers.
You hit the nail on the head. Your analytics tied it all together in one lesson. So much partial information out there, all great pieces.....but this "Ties Together" the pieces of the puzzle. Thanks a Million from someone trying hard to understand.
Great lesson, thank you as always 🙏
GreatLesson again! Glad you’re back. Enjoy Canada with your family. Cheers!
this method explains everything i need to know about soloing, practice is needed but the method is so good. thank you
Once again.....the Master Stitch.... gives is wonderful priceless enlightenment 🎸👌🏼
Simple but beautiful
Thanks for the insight
I've heard this several times from other, with examples. I finally get it! Thanks.
I'm going to practice this. Soloing is my biggest challenge. Thank you for this suggestion.
You’re a really good teacher man! Thank you
Good lesson. Its a bit different than my method but similar concept. After years of being a scale player learning this method has been a real game changer
Glad to see ya back Stich. Been binging your videos recently. Great stuff.
Great lesson as always, Ian! Glad to see your road trip is going well. We just got back from 10 days in Quebec!
You are an incredible teacher, Ian. I feel like I’m gaining insight by leaps and bounds. I’ve watched several of your videos in the past but hadn’t checked out your Patreon until just this week. I am soooo glad I did. There are multiple online and in-person instructors I’ve been learning from the last 5 years and I do learn from them all but you, by far, are the best at breaking things down and getting concepts across. And your passion for guitar and being creative is contagious and inspiring. Plus somehow you make it feel like we are truly in a “room” working together. I didn’t think I could become any more obsessed with my guitar journey than I already am but my excitement just skyrocketed. Thank you for all you do!
Thanks Anne!! You rock!
Thank you for a very informative and helpful approach.
Great to see you back, good lesson thanks.
This lesson opened up so much for me, thank you so much you are awesome!❤
Beautifully explained. I've been playing for over 20 years and I'm trying to teach my son, which I struggle with. This is amazing. We're going to review this together. It's right where he's at. Thank you 🙏🏼
This is pehaps the best lesson on how to play lead all over the neck I've ever scene. You' ve unlocked the fretboard for me. Thank you.
Thank you! Your vids are always so helpful
Oh wow. Thank you. This helped me so much. I’ve been struggling with soloing and this technique was so simple.
Welcome back sir ,thanks for the lesson
Another excellent lesson. Thank you!
Simple and effective! Thanks!
This is great. Thank you.
Really emphasizes what I kept hearing when I first started playing: "to be good at lead guitar you first have to be good at rhythm guitar." Starting from the chords and emphasizing different tones to make melodies
