  • A road journey through Northern Canada up to the Arctic Ocean. Traveling 1800 miles across the Cassiar, Alcan and Dempster highways up to the remote town of Tuktoyaktuk.
This is the follow up video to Haida Gwaii - • Explore the magical is...
Chris Gavin takes you through some incredible landscapes and unforgettable experiences - From the mighty Skeena River in British Columbia up through gold rush towns like Atlin and Whitehorse, living the van life and camping next to pristine lakes and rivers, hiking in Tombstone Territorial Park, a weekend spent at the Midway lake Music Festival, driving through dangerous wildfires and hundreds of miles on dusty, remote gravel roads into the tundra lands north of Inuvik. Lakes and pingo's dot this Western Arctic region where the caribou range. An unusual ritual in Dawson City known as the 'sourtoe cocktail' wraps up the program.

As motorcycle traveler who road from Chicago to Key West to Southern California, AK, south to Colon, Panama, sailboat to Cartagena, then rode to Ushuaia before turning north. Tuk is a dream I will achieve. This is one of the best videos I have watched and reinforces the desire to do it. Thank you!

Thank you so much for your positive affirmation and really glad it has cemented the idea of a ride up to Tuk. It’s a hard, dusty road to ride but incredible nonetheless. You will not be disappointed! Make some time to hike a bit in Tombstone, that is a beautiful aspect of the journey - especially if you can catch it when fires are not burning and the air is clear. All the best to you and future adventures. P.S - I’m planning on a journey down to Patagonia next.

We made the trip to Tuk this past July 15-20th. We were lucky to have 5 days straight of mid 70's and sun weather. Lots of dust, but no wildfires. We also took a swim in the Arctic Ocean. In 2017 we traveled the entire length of the Dalton, wading in the Arctic Ocean on that trip.

You were fortunate to have escaped the wildfire season up there. Just the smoke alone was enough to steal away some of the fantastic scenery, especially around Tombstone. Glad you made both these roads successfully, as they are complimentary but different in so many ways. Both are gorgeous.

I was there August 2/3, and it was 30c. That ocean swim was very welcomed. 🙂

One thing not mentioned about the James Dalton Highway in Alaska is that there is no public access to the Arctic Ocean at the end of the highway through the Alaska North Shore oilfields. Access must be arranged through the various tour operators.

The fires were so close that the road was partially closed. a dozen vehicles were stopped over night in a work yard, with fires in each side. So we partied. lol

Thanks so much for a fascinating documentary on your trip up to Tuk. That's quite an eye opening, particularly as parallel, as you put it so well, as the Alaskan Highway route.
Thanks again and look forward to seeing your next adventures.

Wasn’t quite as cold as you might think. Perhaps because the water was relatively shallow in the bay. I have certainly experienced much colder dips on this trip.

I can,t believe the lava flow that killed almost a whole villege only 300 years ago is not taught in Canadian history. It’s a major news story.

Hi Terry, I agree. Theres so much that goes unsaid when it comes to Native Peoples in general. Such a travesty.
