Liposuction is a cosmetic fat removal procedure. It can permanently remove fat cells (adipocytes) that store fat from a particular section of your body that you want to improve. Liposuction helps get rid of fat deposits that don’t respond to diet and exercise. The fat is removed through a hollow instrument, known as a cannula. This is inserted under the skin. A powerful, high-pressure vacuum is applied to the cannula. Liposuction isn't typically considered an overall weight-loss method or a weight-loss alternative. The ideal patient for liposuction is a young and fit person who is not morbidly obese or BMI less than 32, but just has a few areas with resistant body fat.

Liposuction is best suited for candidates who are not overweight but have an area that particularly bothers them and want to look a little different.
