    i was confused at first because i thought you sent the audio with the microcosm effect into the 404... and then was wondering when you skipped back how you would then send it back to the microcosm. you would have to switch the inputs and outputs around everytime right? but then looking at it again it seems you just recorded the epiano without the effects right?

    • @Taetro
      @Taetro  Před rokem

      Correct, the microcosm comes after the 404. So whatever I capture with skip back, I have the option to record it dry OR with the effects of the microcosm

      @@Taetro ok thats pretty cool, i was jsut thinking about using the skip back funktion to capture potentially random generated moments which you might not be able to recreate... but i dont really know the microcosm, does it work with random effects?

    • @Taetro
      @Taetro  Před rokem +1

      I wouldn’t say it’s “random” but I guess it kind of is because there will be moments you can’t always replicate with the granular effects. It is great to capture those moments, I’ve found myself just recording long takes on the push to capture it.
      I hope ableton will add a Skip Back style effect someday. They’ve got it for midi but not for audio

    I would say the "no computer" and "DAWless" labels are rather meaningless these days. If something has an operating system, even if we interact with it through dials and buttons, and it even has a fairly detailed display, it is a computer. If no mouse or keyboard meant "no computer", a Microsoft Surface or an iPad would qualify. A computer generally has input, storage (even if volatile, not necessarily HD), processing and output. A large chunk of electronic music gear these days has those. One example is the Korg Opsix/Modwave/Wavestate lineup. Sure, they are 37-key "standalone" keyboards, but they literally have a small computer in them. The music and the art will always be more important than the gear.

    • @Taetro
      @Taetro  Před rokem +3

      True!!! The flow matters as well. Interacting with an instrument that is technically a computer is different than interacting with a literal computer imo

    • @shannonpalmer
      @shannonpalmer Před rokem +2

      @@TaetroI agree; I just rented an op-1 and have been learning to write and record tracks on it. Even though it’s technically a little computer, it doesn’t feel like using a computer. It feels like using a 4 track tape machine that happens to have a built in synth, drum machine, and sampler, that can also fit in a bag and go with me anywhere. It’s just a different experience than what we think of as a computer. Most people think of a computer as either a laptop or a desktop. I mean, our phone is a computer, the mpc one is a computer, the sp404 is a computer. But in the context of this video, people should know what you mean when you say “no computer.”

    • @AdamElteto
      @AdamElteto Před rokem +1

      @@Taetro Very true, whatever gets your creativity going is what works. I think the big part of the negative "computer" experience is the lack of immediacy; turning it on (or waking it up or jiggling the mouse to make the desktop pop up), starting the DAW, setting up a new project, loading plugins. Some musicians may have their workstation running all the time, with a DAW template always loaded, but for most, it is easier to reach for a dedicated hardware unit (I guess that is the key, the hardware being dedicated to music making) and start jamming. For those with laptops that get used for other things in life, getting it out of the bag and getting it ready for an inspiration session may be an unconscious discouragement from getting that idea down. I think smart devices with music apps are a decent compromise; you can pull them out any time anywhere and just start creating.

    As time goes on, I think the term "DAWless" becomes less meaningful and less accurate. What it really comes down to most of the time is "do I use a mouse and keyboard when l make music?".
    This setup is a perfect example of that. Sure, there's a "DAW" and a "computer", but its the removal of the mouse, keyboard, and computer screen that makes you feel more connected to the individual pieces of gear. That's what makes the experience and workflow so different and immersive.
    We need a new term... but "Peripheral-less" or "Decentralized Interface" doesn't have the same ring to it.
