Hi taetro i hope you will replyy so i was avle to buy all the equipment that i need already i play 4 music instruments but im really not technologically inclined
So i bought a macbook and oxygen 49 midi keyboard and i have a line 6 ux2audio interface
I play drums keybkard and guitars but i only want to record using ny midi kieyboard and logic pro
My question is do i need an audio interface to use my midi keyboard or do i just connect the midi keyboard straight to the macbook w/ usb c to a cable and no need for audio interface?

8:55 Make sure you get EarPods and not AirPods or other Bluetooth headphones. Bluetooth headphones won’t work well for monitoring while overdubbing parts due to latency.

    • @r0bophonic

What device are you connecting to? I haven’t tried USB-C headphones but I would expect any wired headphones should have low enough latency for audio production.

One thing I have to say is don't always rush forward just because you have or got higher end equipment. Like when i got my MIDI controller (which happen to be an Arturia Minilab 3) it also came with higher end software like Ableton Live. But when I ended up actually trying to make a full track i gave up and went back to BandLab cause it was easier and didnt have to use as many externals.

Video's good. If there's one thing I'd tell myself when I was just starting out is 'it's okay to be frustrated, if you don't get the sound you like. Just start with whatever you can, but practicing everyday would really get you far. I promise. Stick with what you're familiar with. Always fix the issue with what's feels like lacking, improve it day by day and then BAM, you wono't realize you're already there. I stand by using iPad but please, if you can- choose a software and master it.

This video was extremely helpful, especially since I wasn't sure what to purchase for my setup as far as what was essential and what wasn't. This really explained what everything is meant for and how to build your setup based on how you produce. Since I won't be using any live instruments yet, I can build my gear accordingly.
Thanks a ton for your tutorials and for this information!!

I started off with music production about 2 years ago with a windows laptop, akai mpk mini 3 and audio technica ath m30x headphones. I didn't start to record guitar and vox til later. An Ipad is still where I create music. I have a lot of apps already, and getting the same level of software on a laptop would be very expensive. Also, I have found the Samson go mic a very easy to use usb mic that sounds better than decent, and can handle vocals and acoustic instruments. It doesn't need external power when used on an ipad or iphone, and that makes recording a lot more convenient. Great tutorial. BTW!

I agree but one thing I notice everyone leaves out of the bare bones setup videos is a designated storage device.
I’d definitely recommend either an external drive/ USB drive , etc… for keeping projects safe or a paid online cloud storage account… (ideally both!) although your computer tablet or phone has storage things happen!
it’s always best practice to have a backup plan not to mention something you can bring with you or load up that’s secure for traveling and colabs!
Aside from that I’m with you 100%

As someone starting out, I was introduced the M-Audio products as they are very budget friendly. I picked up an M-Track Solo Interface (although they have a Duo version for multiple instrument input) as well as a Axiom Air 32 Mini, which has 32 keys, dials and pad bank (only thing missing is an input for a sustain pedal, although it has a toggle switch for this). I presently don't record vocal (too shy about my voice to record it) and record guitar by input rather than mic'd up, but I would look to get a mic next I think. I bought a cheap pair of Roland headphones which I think come with their keyboards. All of this cost me less than £100. I do own a 2019 Intel MacBook Pro, so I take advantage of Garage Band as my DAW, but having seen your recommendation for Band Lab, I might give that a go.

I love this! I have been holding off getting back into writing music for so many reasons (Dad of 2 boys, executive corporate job, insert other excuses here). I wrote music at a time when everything was analog - guitar, piano, cassette - just gave away my age right there. While I am versed with today's tech (PS5, ipad pros) i didn't know where to start - until today. I have an ipad pro, i have a kawaii digital grand piano, but will get a midi controller (eyeing akai based off of this video) and will just ket the music flow. Thank you!

With passion and creativity there will always be a way for the music to flow & the love for the craft is the limit, where one can always love deeper. 💜 take good care and let the caged bird fly.

I'm here because I don't know much about this tech and I want to learn but it's heartening to hear someone as young as you talking about how they are "blessed" to have what so many others do not. I think your generation is so much better than what those from mine give credit for. Every generation faces it's challenges, and certainly affordable housing is yours, but what I see from so many your age is a very healthy 30,000ft perspective.

I was the most creative when I just had a laptop, cheap m-audio midi and headphones. Less is more is def true in my case but getting new gear and plugins is so addictive.

@@RDR1456 I was using Reason but you should look into others like Ableton. For some reason most producers don't use reason. I been out the game for a while so not sure why that is.

Would love to try this set up to teach children music tech and loops etc in a workshop situation (no pc's). What Im wanting more info on is how you get a ipad mini to power up the controller and the mixer, when they both require a powered source(as you would be able to get on a pc)? Tia

im 15 yo and i started making music (shit music back then) when i was 12. i connected my digital piano with usb midi to my laptop and used lmms. no audio interface (i had some really bad latency)
i have a friend that got started recently and he got a cheap 32 key midi controller and now an audio interface
if i was starting now i'd get a midi controller with at least 1 knob and some pads and thats it. then an audio interface like the maudio mtrack solo and a cheap sm57 copy from thomman or behringer (i have one and works great)
for me the limitations make you more creative, and when you master what you have then you are ready to upgrade your gear

If someone only needs one mic input the IK Multimedia IO would be an all in one solution with any cell phone or computer plus you get free software with it. I agree the Arturia audio interface is also good because of the usb port. Saves you from a usb hub.

Have you tried Loopy Pro as DAW and or loop station?
I've been having a blast with it, although I'm new to this so i don't have much to compare to...
I got it for looping guitar but find myself wanting to really get more into making full songs as well

Microphones, And an audio interface from SweetWater ~✓ I'm Looking forward to adding your Suggestions as money allows. Thanks for the Wealth of knowledge..

Hello. I just bought the same setup as displayed in your video but it seems it is not working with an older Ipad with lightning port? Do you have any tipps how I can make this work or do I need a ipad with usb-c port? or are there any powered adapters or something so I could make this work? maybe you have some advice - thankx for all your videos! great inspiration and very welcome for a beginner like myself.
