  • This week I’m making a song from scratch in Logic Pro on iPad Pro! This process was really fun and I’m actually pretty stoked with the track, will potentially polish it up later.
    If you liked the video I’d be stoked if you checked out my music on Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp, or wherever you listen, especially my album “There’s Something Better”.
    Here’s the gear I used in the video, the links are affiliate which means I get a small commission if you use them at no extra cost to you:
    12.9 M2 iPad Pro (mine is 1tb): amzn.to/3uxwKZD
    Audient iD14 mk2 interface: amzn.to/3GgIQc3
    Shure Beta 58A microphone: amzn.to/47wKHWi
    iPad Pro Stand: amzn.to/49TuZpK
    Shure SRH 1540 headphones: amzn.to/40VDbl7
    Komplete Kontrol Mk2 keyboard (outdated now but decent, the Mk3 can’t run off just the usb hub, requires another wall power for this setup): amzn.to/49P04L9

    This was a fun, exciting video, and a great demonstration of an iPad workflow. Thank you for putting it together! The way you were able to track and mix an entire song without a keyboard and mouse-and alas, without the distractions of a desktop setup-is just inspiring! I say, great work on that, man. Now, you're just gonna export it, airdrop, and then master! Amazing. I've been aspiring for a music production and video editing iPad setup for a while now, and this video has got me thinking about it even more. Though, it has also raised a question I had not thought of before-how exactly do you Command + Z on an iPad? 😄

    • @DylanParisMusic
      @DylanParisMusic  Před 6 měsíci

    Hi, when I record a midi track using my Roland fp10, connecting it via a midi cable, the midi track gets recorded in the logicpro for iPad, however since I am using the sustain pedal on my Roland, the midi track has either too much sustain or if I reduce the sustain it becomes too little. Why doesn’t record just the way I use the sustain pedal?

    Been watching your videos for a while, good stuff! Question: how do you finish composing these beats into real tracks? I have loads of beats I made like this one in the video, but then just drop them.

    • @DylanParisMusic
      @DylanParisMusic  Před 6 měsíci +1

      It depends! Some songs I make for videos are just sketches and then sort of stay that way. The ones I really vibe with get recorded into arrangers / song modes like in my tutorial last week for logic, and then I usually export the stems out into Ableton where I add extra layers, come up with real lyrics, and re record vocals.
      Depending on the song I will then send to my friend for mixing and some additional elements like with a lot of my album There’s Something Better where my friend Jake Stein aka WRNG HAUS did a bunch of mixing and production. Some songs I do entirely myself as well. I’m not amazing at mixing or mastering though

    I guess what I'm wondering here is - is this really any more convenient or simple than using a macbook pro, which has more power and allows for the full standard version of Logic Pro along with wider support of audio interfaces? I'm torn on whether this is better or worse. At some point the setup just becomes the same as using a laptop

    • @DylanParisMusic
      @DylanParisMusic  Před 24 dny +1

      The only area I think it’s truly better is that you could use just the tablet and make a full song with a lot more portability and flexibility. As soon as you start adding accessories or need to use headphones… there’s an argument a MacBook is a better choice!

    how heavy is logic in the pad. Or do you think Ableton would be lighter

    • @DylanParisMusic
      @DylanParisMusic  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Ableton isn't on ipad (other than Ableton Note which is barely in the same category of app and is more for song sketching with huge limitations). Logic on ipad seems to be a beefed up version of Garageband for ipad. It's one of the more processor heavy apps I've used. I upgraded to an M2 ipad pro with 1tb SSD / 16 gigs of ram once logic dropped and i've had very few issues with this configuration.
      If a full version of ableton was created for ipad, i suspect it would be a more intensive app, but it's hard to say without it existing.
