    I tend to be old school, hooking up pto shafts back when they were known to engage accidentally. I have a newer 50 HP Kubota HST which I’m fairly certain that the pto is safe from accidental engagement, and once the trans is in neutral it’ll stay there. But fairly certain is not good enough, so once positioned I turn the engine off, brake on. I couldn’t imagine what horrific injuries could result if “fairly certain” wasn’t protection enough.

    When engaging the mower, I keep my PTO speed at about 1200-1500 RPMs. Once the blade(s) start spinning, I GRADUALLY increase PTO speed to 540. Helps to extended the life of your PTO clutch.

      That's smart. I should have made that suggestion in the video. I may redo it.

      I started to do that same thing a few years ago. Not a bad idea.

      @LisaMedeiros-tr2lz Před rokem +2

      I believe what you meant to say is you keep your engine RPMs to 12-1500, NOT the PTO. This means the PTO speed starts at less than 540. Then gradually increase your engine RPMs to increase to the point where you are about 540 on your PTO. I also do this. Otherwise if you have the engine rpm at full speed and engage the PTO, it kind of "slams" into engagement. That would be rough on the tractor. However, I think it is also not good to engage the PTO with the engine too low a speed. The blade is very heavy (large mass) in a rotary cutter and has a lot of inertia (resistance to accelerating up to operating speed). If you start out too low a speed, I also think it puts stress on the engine and PTO. On my Kubota, I operate the rotary cutter at almost 3000 RPMs, so I start it (engage the PTO) at about 1800-2000 RPMs on the engine speed. Try it. For your setup you are looking for that sweet spot where the tractor doesn't shudder as much bringing the cutter on, then throttle up.

      @@LisaMedeiros-tr2lz You are correct. Thanks for clarifying my statement. I start at lower engine speed, engage PTO, and gradually increase until the desired engine speed is reached. Great point about engaging PTO at too low of a speed.

    I dont use a top link with a brushhog. I use a piece of chain so i can still pick it all the way if needed and it allows the cutter to follow the contours of the land and wont bend anything if i go across a high terrace or ditch.

    I think it would be helpful if you explained which hole you put the center point of contact in (and why). Furthermore, I would have like to have seen you cover where you like to set the height of the back wheel (and why).

    • @157mshaggy
      @157mshaggy  Před 4 měsíci

      I'm not sure what your asking with the first part of your question regarding the center point of contact. As for the wheel holes, they are there to adjust the height of the wheel. If you have flat land and you want the grass cut low, you can adjust the wheel up. This will allow you to lower the cutting surface. Vice versa if you raise the will, it will raise the cutting surface. The video was made to show how to connect the brush cutter. Other videos could be made on how to use and adjust the implement. I appreciate you watching and reaching out.

    New owner of Kubota 2501 here and landpride rotary cutter. What’s the long black hook on cutter used for (under the top link). Is that used for supporting Pto shaft while cutting or just getting hooked up…? TIA

    • @157mshaggy
      @157mshaggy  Před měsícem +1

      It is to hold the PTO shaft when not in use.

    I believe we may have the same type of implements and tractor? I have a Landpride RCR 1872 brush cutter and Kubota MX6000 tractor. I noticed when hooking up that you still had the draw bar attached to the tractor. I was told to remove the draw bar because it may interfere with the PTO shaft? This may be the wrong information. Have you had any problems with leaving the draw bar attached?

    • @157mshaggy
      @157mshaggy  Před rokem

      Thanks for watching. I have the M6060. I've not had any issues connecting or disconnecting the brush cutter. I would guess if the draw bar is cracked up, it may be an issue. I have not had to crank down on the draw bar for any reason. Ultimately, you can contact your dealer for further guidance.

    • @MikeOrazzi
      @MikeOrazzi Před rokem

      I bought my JD used, no draw bar to worry about. The RCR1872 I have has been great, 6 years and still going strong. Sometimes I feel bad for it, but it keeps on spinning.

      For safety you should always shut the tractor off while connecting a PTO!!!
