Unloved and underappreciated. Get your tiny violin out for the Hamilton PSR! I like it though. It wears better than any of the other LED that I have tried. Indeed, the Gerlach will be for the chop as soon as I get it back from being out on loan. Not cheap though, and just don't ask it to do tricks. It only knows one. Cheers, Jody
My friend had one of the early Pulsars in the mid 1970s. They were somewhat hard to get, and expensive! His dad owned a jewelry store so he had an inside track. I remember that you set the time using a tiny magnet that was stored in a secret compartment on the watch. Crazy. I really wanted one.
Love it!!! Brother has it! I thought it was a cool prop from a film!! As a Roger Moore fan I’m not sure why the heck I don’t own it!!!!
Yeah Russ - it’s the pioneer of the pre digital lcd watch in effect. Why don’t you own it 🤔 😅 . My wife’s got an opinion on it - “it’s a microwave clock on your wrist “ . I still
Love it
Always liked it, but ,far, far, far ... far too expensive!🤨
What about at $550USD grey market?
💯
We need a pegani design homage of it 😁
🤣We Welsh can match the frugality of you Scots you know. That's still too big a lump of spondoolies.🤣@@JustOneMoreWatch
I wish it had more than just time function. Date would have been so easy to add. Totally agree on the form factor/display horological significance. And my heart leans towards it big time. (BY THE WAY: the original Pulsar had a date. I owned one. The PRX is considerably thicker. But burned thru hearing aid batteries.)
Congrats for the new studio and, of course the tee!
I have another Led Watch a russian one : the Elektronika 1 pulsar, it’s a quirky one, it doesn’t display anything until you push the button, one push gives you the hour and minutes, a long push gives you the seconds and a push on another button gives you the date and the number of the week day. It’s also quirky because it is a quartz watch with digital display that is less accurate than some mechanical and automatic watches I own. Some say it’s because the voltage of the modern batteries is slightly higher than the one from the original USSR era batteries so it goes a bit faster than it should.
Yes, Электроника-1 известный вариант 1980х годов
My father had one back in 78/79 and god was that cool back than. I was only six years old and stil remember it.
When lcd first became a thing I was bought a pen with an lcd display in it, it lost 10 minutes a day. Some digital watches are just crap and others are amazingly accurate.
I like the watch but I think the price is ridiculous for what it is.
Thanks for reviewing this, Jody. I have the green and black Matrix version and love it. Wears very comfortably. I only wish it had an auto illuminate function with a wrist rotation
As I recall (sadly I’m old enough to remember), quite apart from the price, the LED watches of the 1970s were not successful precisely because you had to push a button to tell the time - not very useful whilst doing anything…like driving for instance. The also expensive LCD watches that quickly followed killed LEDs off overnight.
Love it. I was the first kid on my block to own a digital watch back in 1976. The Timex SSQ...still have it.
If memory serves, both U.S. President Gerald Ford and actor Telly Savalas while portraying Kojak on American TV wore the original of this model.
Also Bill Bixby in "The Magician" and the pilot of "The Incredible Hulk". As for as I know, it was his own watch he was wearing.
I remember Kojak wearing one like this.
Didn't Telly Savalas (Kojak) have the gold one? He sure dressed like a million bucks for a NYPD lieutenant....
Castro was another original owner of the Pulsar. If you use Google images; you'll find this very cool photo of Castro and Olof Palme smoking cigars and laughing. Castros Pulsar watch is prominent in the photo. I would love to have that photo on my wall.
Hell yeah! The PSR is awesome, I’ve had mine for two years and it looks and feels amazing. I wish we would see more “high end” digitals like this. Maybe even some dressier digitals
Nice review. Got one of these in november and so far it has been a delight. An unexpected surprise for me was the accuracy. Hamilton doesn't provide any numbers in their specs but mine has gained about a second in those three months putting me on track for around +4 sec/year. Very hard to beat that.
This watch is so you, I actually thought you had already reviewed it! I guess you reviewed several similar ones. As for that photo from Live and Let Die, thanks to Madeline Smith, I didn’t realize the watch nor Roger Moore (for that matter) was in the photo for about 3 seconds. Hope you enjoy the watch!
Really keen on the Murph
Love the back drop Jodi
I love it mate, and it has a really interesting back story. Very retrolicious.
Love the new setup, Dr Musgrove!
Love the new studio.
Hello! Great to see the first video in the new place. This video quality looks great with the lighting and background. 🎉
I am not sure how they can justify the price given what type of watch it is and that it just has a simple electronic circuit.
It’s a lovely watch and the flowers underline the deep beauty of the watch face’s ruby color. Nice.
I have had one for over two years. I love it.
I own one, just buy it!! They are beautiful!
My dad had the original watch. I enjoyed playing with it when I was a kid. It was so freaking cool.
Love it! I remember when LEDs first came out - the excitement was incredible. We all got our cheap ones from Woolworths and ran round the playground pressing the button till - well - the battery soon went flat. Happy days indeed. Well done Hamilton for bringing it back just as it was. The price reflects the quality and the history so no complaints there.
I have it and love it , of all my watches this one gets the most questions and interest.
Love the PSR, it's my daily. Get surprising frequent compliments for it. Young woman (20's) serving at my local loved it while pouring me a chilled red and even younger Kiwi bloke at coffee drive thru wanted to know all about it.
This watch is awesome! I just bought one a few weeks ago. My only drawback was the button's incoherent working. Thanks to mentioned that. I thought mine has an issue.
just tried it on at my local AD and i am i sorely tempted. i like it better than the Bulova Computron. thanks for sharing!
I caught the retro digital bug but didn’t get a Hamilton. I picked up an autodromo group c at windup in nyc. I don’t wear it every day, but it makes me smile when I do.
Holy cow! Amazing new studio!
Thanks mate! Still tweaking the look and the audio.
Always something interesting for us! Thanks Jody. Keep up the great work.
Great upload Jody thanks! Interesting piece. A friend of mine has it and makes a quirky cool presence. The bracelet looks really solid. All the best Jody!
I saw these at a dealer this weekend and they looks soooo much better in person.
I want one so bad but can't pull the trigger on a non casio digital. And I remember the original that my rich freinds dad had when I was a tiny child. Great video!
It's really well finished, especially the bracelet. I wish it displays the date too.
My uncle George is the original inventor of the LED watch. For a time, it put American watchmaking in the center of the manufacturing world... good times and whew very very expensive. I do wish this new PSR featured the "wrist flick" turn-on option of some previous higher-end Pulsars. But otherwise it's the best of the modern remakes thus far and of course credit for being a Bond watch.
I love the fact that the case looks like an astronauts helmet.
I got a similar-looking watch as a graduation gift when I graduated from high school in 1976..not a Hamilton, but a Wittnauer Polara..I wish I knew where that watch was today!!
I like the GP LED watch.
Great piece with some wonderful history. Wish they would have crammed in a date function though.
As always, another great video!!!
Nice on Jody. I've had a PSR for a few years now and it still gets wrist time. The hybrid LCD/OLED display from my experience makes it readable in most conditions without pressing the button but it looks great when you do in lower light. One odd point I found is when setting it though, it goes through the am and pm bit but as far as my tiny mind it makes no difference as there is no am/pm indication on the display and no date to worry about shifting 12 hours early. I love the watch though, one slight moan is that the clasp buttons seem a tad sharper than others with a slight irritation initially but I have zero issues with it now. I also have the Armitron and again it's a cracking watch on a budget but I have more trouble seeing the time outside compared to the PSR. Cracking review as always and thanks for sharing. My Armitron may well occupy my wrist tomorrow followed by my PSR the next day... or the other way round. Us watch geeks change there watch wearing minds like the weather.
Apparently the reason for am/pm is that it shows 12 for the hours at noon but 0 at midnight.
@@Bonzo-bd3nk Brilliant! I'll have to check that out, thanks for sharing.
That button action is a bit depressing. For 500+, should have a distinctive actuation
I have the armitron Griffy in gold, (after seeing your video), because I’ve always wanted one of these but don’t have the cash. Compared to the price of an original it’s nots not bad value considering this one has modern build quality! Will definitely pick one up one day.
Great review, indeed it’s a good watch I would just add internal switch / gyro that would activate LED digits when you lift hand it to your face, just like Apple device,,, that would make it cool
I have one and I love it
My first Bond movie I saw in theater was Live and Let Die. I was 8 yrs old. Fell in love with it. Got the Rolex 5513 and just ordered the Hamilton. Thanks Jody
I'm watching this review and the email came in at 1:36 that the Origins are in Sydney. Great timing!
I owned the black green Matrix one. I liked the watch, but couldn't really wear it as i thought the pvd coming off would ruin it. Also too much taper on the bracelet. The button on mine felt wonky too.
I can remember my pa buying a Sinclair digital watch around the same time, it arrived in parts for you to put together.
I have a similar National Semiconductor LED watch that I received in 1977. It still functions perfectly, and is in almost new condition. It has time, seconds, AND DATE.
Knew it! As soon as you said one of the most important watches in horological history ❤ This watch, along with a Ventura quartz, a Murph and a few others are some of several Hamilton I shall one day own 😅
I just picked one of these up, really shocked at the quality of this piece, feels like a tank, very well built 👍
Hey I ahve one of these! In black and red. Looks nice alongside my gold/red Bulova Computron.
I’ve love the PSR. I managed to get a PSR MTX marking the release of the latest Matrix film.
Black case and bracelet with Green LED. Fantastic watch, only 1999 produced. I love the history of the watch as well, and the 007 connection makes it very appealing. Happy to see a video in 2024 celebrating the PSR.
Keep up the great work.
Jody, I'm watching your review while wearing my PSR. This a great watch if you value history. Congrats on your new studio, Jody! Looks great! And congrats on your new watch!
I’ve had my eye on this for a few years but not at that price or even half that price. I bought an Armitron Griffy for about $40 and I love it.
Love your new studio! As far as the watch, I had one these back in the day. The novelty wore off pretty fast for me. Battery never seemed to last very long depending how many times you hammered the button...Cool design but it's just a leftover 70's curiosity, I think...
Oh hey! New studio!
About time. I bought this a couple of years ago at a great price here in the UK. As a ‘very’ young man in the 70’s this was my most desired watch but and finally 50 years later I got it. A real conversion starter and love to bore anyone that will listen about the history and significance of this beautiful piece. Thank you for this review, outstanding.
Just got the PSR for Christmas...it doesn't disappoint. It looks far better in person than in pictures. It is a conversation starter for sure.
I still have my Pulsar p2 2900 stainless steel version, I purchased new in 1973 for 395.00, the same price of a Rolex Submariner! and it still works!
That's a beauty, still today!
Also nice new neon sign ... is this the new studio in the new house?
Yep beautiful but expensive and ill wait for one when l can get it for pittance 😊
Definitely Reminds me a lot of the Gerlach Kosmonauta watch.
Great review and great watch but if you sell your Gerlach that just leaves me with mine!….. I feel so alone 😢😂 Besides, the Gerlach gives you the date!!!! And it went to space!
I have a limited edition golden PVD one. Such a beautiful watch. And the “presidential” bracelet is super comfortable.
This is one vintage re-issue that doesn't ring my bells.
With your love for nice quartz watches I think you would love the Tsuki-yomi A-T BY1010-57H they just went on sale recently. Would love to see a vid on it
Jody, bought one from Vincent as a result of this review. Have over 30 watches in my collection and can’t take off my PSR. Absolutely love it. The ultimate in retro style in my view. Call it my little robot! Thanks so much for shining a light on it mate. 👍
I bought the black version. Yeah its a bit different and I guess a novelty but I like it.
Uber cool watch esp if you can find the Matrix PVD black version with green LED - ultra rare
Awesome watch. I got the gold limited edition to 1973. It’s one of my cheapest watches but gets the most comments when I wear it. 🎉🎉🎉
Damn charming watch. I'd consider at USD 550 but I have the Yema and the Bulova like this with the side window. Congratulations on a cool piece.
I had a Texas Instruments plastic cased LED digital in the mid-late '70s. Same functions, affordable.
Yes I remember them well. The coolest watch to have in junior high school. 😎
It's great to see Hamilton continuing to get its due. Always great to see what you have to say Jody. I continue to be impressed by your professionalism in these reviews.
Thanks for watching the channel mate!
I bought mine retail, as I REALLY wanted it and there were none 2nd hand. I love it, but you lose money as soon as you buy it, which didn't bother me, as i knew i wouldnt be selling it. It surprisingly weighty and feels quality. Great addition to the collection.
Just picked up a Hamilton from Vincent at Wamada this week. I think it's probably the 5th or 6th watch I have bought from Vincent. Can highly recommend!
A really interesting timepiece. Love the engraving on the case back. Not sure I could stomach that style for the price tag, though!
I remember when the very first LED watches came out and they were the epitome of high tech and super expensive.
This is one of those watches I’ve always loved the idea of but not sure I can take it seriously on the wrist. And it’s far too pricey. But well justified with your reasons for buying Jodie 👍🏻
I have the limited edition gold version, and I love it. Unfortunately it's so special that I've only worn it like 6 times in the last 4 years, so I'm considering selling it. 😂
Hamilton’s Jazzmaster range is overlooked & offers real nice dress pieces
Nice new studio ❤ there is however some strange echo. acoustics in your old room was better.
Now! That is a tee shirt!!!!
I agree with almost everything said in the video however I just can't justify the price. I tried an Armitron Griffy ( in fact when Walmart put them on clearance I bought the three other colorways they carry, green led, blue led, and red LED in a gold tone case) and I just did not like leaving an extra hand to check the time. It didn't stop me from buying the limited edition Bulova computron D-CAVE and then later the non LE, but even all six of those did not cost what 1 PSR cost
Helloooo Jody 😊
Think the gerlach would be my pick of the bunch
My old Westime LED watch even displays the date on the third press. 😂
790 USD from my AD here in California.
Cool watch, but I would get the Bulova retro display for a fraction of the price.
Great video Jody, can't wait unti I get my Erebus 😁👍🏽
Bulova one is horrible I bought it and sold it the Hamilton is much better quality
I really like the PSR, it would look great in my collection, but that’s way more than I can justify spending on a digital watch that doesn’t even allow checking the time at a glance, as an extra push with the other hand is necessary.
I bought mine in 2022 and recently decided to sell it. It’s in mint condition and I put it up for 500 Aussie bux and got nothing. Nobody was interested. Thanks for making this video and letting people know what they are. 👍
T-shirt ... best of the best 😊
I remember a friend had a cheaper version in 1977. It was cool. But... I'll stick to my Casios.
I love the look of this....but i think ill stick to my budget version of this watch.....the Casio a168😅
I was born in 1967 and can remember as a young lad getting my first LED watch. It was pretty amazing at the time especially being 9 or 10 years old!
Very cool..... But why so expensive?
Feels like it would have suited Mooneraker better.
Let's be honest, none of us with any amount of virility left were looking @ Roger Moore's wrist
