  • Do you need to ace the GED Language Arts section, but need to brush up on your grammar? Then this video's for you.
    The basics:
    A noun can be a person, a place or a thing is a person, place, thing, or an idea.
    A proper noun names a specific person, place, thing, or idea.
    On the other hand, a common noun names a non-specific person, place, thing, or idea.
    Tip: You can tell proper and common nouns apart because, with proper nouns, the first letter will (almost) always be capitalized. With common nouns, the first letter will (almost) never be capitalized unless it’s the first word in a sentence, or it’s part of the title.
    You can think of pronouns as “substitute” nouns because pronouns are words that substitute for nouns. And whenever a pronoun replaces a noun, we call the noun that was replaced the antecedent
    Subject pronoun: I, you, he, she, they
    Object pronoun: Me, you, him, her, them
    Possessive pronouns: My, mine; your,yours, his, her, hers, their or theirs
    if the antecedent is singular, the pronoun must also be singular, and if the antecedent is plural the pronoun must also be plural.
    A verb is a word that describes an action, occurrence, or state of being. On the tests, you’ll need to know about both regular verbs and irregular verbs.

      Drives is plural. On the question of singular drive or drives with singular Abby you say drives. That's plural not singular so I'm confused as to how that's the answer.

    • @TestPrepChampions
      @TestPrepChampions  Před 2 lety +2

      Hi, thanks for watching and for your comment! A 175 is a very high score, but not out of reach if you're willing to put the time in. If your goal is to get a score that high, then I highly recommend getting a textbook like Kaplan or Princeton Review and trying to learn everything they teach you for the RLA section. It's going to probably take some time and work, but it's better safe than sorry if you want a high score. Also, you can go through my RLA playlist if you haven't already: czcams.com/video/Ki2565zYc48/video.html. There's definitely a lot of material there that will help you out with your goal. But since you're aiming for a high score, I really think you'll want to do a lot of practice from a book too to be safe. Good luck!

      @TestPrepChampions  Před 4 lety +3

      Good question. You're correct that many people do use "they" when the gender is unknown (I do this sometimes myself). The point of the example though was to illustrate how to use the correct pronoun-antecedent agreement to maximize your score on the test. In retrospect, I should've clarified that her friend is a woman earlier. But the purpose was to show you when you need to use "she" instead of "they" to follow correct grammar rules.
