@@ACCORDriver_NL I never do that.
@@ACCORDriver_NL I've been zapped through the hand several times by a 40kV coil pack once so I can understand the caution.. but that said, I can't see any reason why it would discharge with the car off.
If you're curious as to how that happened - 18 year old me was on the side of the road with a blown clutch and gearbox (snapped input shaft.. no connection through any gear at all) and I had previously swapped the engine with one from a similar but slightly different model, which had different alternator wiring. This change in wiring meant the engine didn't turn off with the key, so for the month prior I was purposely stalling it in gear with the brakes on every time I parked.
So now with a blown gearbox, and wrong alternator I had no way of stopping the car.
2am, no streetlights around, no torch, no tools. So I wrapped a rag around my hand, made sure that I was not touching a single part of the car with any of my body, and ripped out the main distributor lead.
Hurt like a bitch for 2 seconds, but the engine stopped and I was not injured.
Oh to be young and dumb. I really miss that car too, 1981 Mitsubishi Scorpion. It brought be nothing but pain and anger through mechanical trouble, but was a dream to drive and so comfortable for long highway cruises.

I actually laughed so hard I cried when he lost the marigold and the allen key in there 🤣 great vid guys!
Getting closer to the original BBC trio with each episode like this!
I still love the fact that the videos are still going on! I love CarTHROTLLE!
I noticed a couple of things wrong with this video. During an oil change, when the oil is being added you want to fill it slightly past the full line if you don't know the capacity specification. Then start the engine and allow the filter to fill up, THEN take your measurements. During spark plug replacement, you need to know your gap specification and gap them accordingly. Antiseize needs to be added to the spark plug threads to prevent them getting stuck, and a dab of dielectric grease needs to be added to the tips of the coil packs to waterproof the connection and prevent corrosion.
Shadow the Hedgehog spark plugs are usually pre-gapped. And I definitely wouldn’t advise using copper grease on spark plugs.
Top tip ethan: dont hold the oil container vertically like you do here. But rather horizontally. That way the oil should come out in a nice stream.
They should have said that tbh
Or, you know, pour the right way around with the nozzle on top.
And use a funnel, just sayin...
@@ashtonmark24 top half of a Pepsi bottle works fine 😉

That i-DSI on the engine cover would rather suggest that it's got 2 spark plugs per cylinder..
So that's half the job done.
(Also cabin air filter. If it's been that neglected it'll be truly revolting)
I thought anything with a D in the model meant it was Diesel TDi, D-4D, 320D, that sort of thing...

Not always. Can mean various things manufacturer dependin;
Mitsubishi GDI -gasoline direct injection
Honda DSI -dual spark ignition
Also no diesel honda jazz/fit ever made
Frig! The thing is, with this Jazz and the i-DSi engine, there are 8 spark plugs. 2 for each cylinder. "i-DSi" means "intelligent dual sequence ignition"...
Hey guys, FYI:
The Honda Jazz uses 8 spark plugs.
Cheers!
Twinspark ???
Yep having serviced my dads can confirm it does and the ones at the back are a nightmare to get out
A HEMI engine uses 2 per cylinder, but this is a cheap car so its a joke
It actually has 2 per cylinder got me the first time I serviced mine
I believe its only the 1.3L ones that have 2 per cylinder
By the end if quarantine we’ll see Ethan K-swapping his Jazz and welding in a roll cage.
This has been one of my favorite CT episodes in a long time. 😂😂😂
Never serviced a car but feel like I can now after watching this 😂
Even in Lockdown this feels pretty much like a normal full of banter Car Throttle video. Cheers Lads!!
This was great 😂. On the slightly older Jazz’, they actually had 8 spark plugs, even though they were a 4-cylinder engine. 😬
This was only for the 1.3, the 1.5 has 4 plugs.

Absolute gold! Mini-series material for sure.
I see the engine cover written i-DSI. The jazz/fit use A15 engine, and it has 2 type. Didn't that engine(i-DSI) use 8 spark plugs?? 😅
yes 2 plugs per cylinder set at later timing to burn all or any remaining fuel from the injection

whats wrpmg with changing spark plugs on a subaru, are they too hard to reach?
west side the spark plugs are on the side, not on top. It’s a flat engine so the engine heads are on the sides.

Next video : timing belt replacement 😅
Let's hope so...
Damn, that thing took me about 3 days on my Mark 4 Golf 1.4 petrol and that was the first thing I ever did on any car. I'm never touching this again.
When you're removing spark plugs, the easiest way about it is to loosen them up with a socket and them grab them with the coilpack or sparkplug lead and chuck it out. Much easier than any other method really, unless you have a socket with magnetic insert.
Why would you need to disconnect the battery for a change of spark plugs?
I have done a few and never heard that before if the ignition is off surely there is no danger.
@@thedave7760 I've never disconnected the battery when charging spark plugs lol.
its probably a disclaimer thing as someone will copy this but with the ignition ON! lol
Ooooor...you could use a socket that is specifically made for sparkplugs, just a though though
The first time you take a car apart, put it back together.. and it STARTS is the best feeling in the world. Glad your mate got to experience this.
This has got to be one of my favourite CT videos yet. Never serviced a car before but this makes me want to start!
Loving the work - I am missing those "Can we buy a car for three apples and a pot of play dough?" films. Fingers crossed the lockdown ends soon and we can get you guys perusing autotrader and back out on the road again.
Would've been much easier to just use a coil pack to fish the loose plugs out
It amazes me how many people don't realize that, though they probably knew and didn't tell Ethan for the comedic value
this is exactly my way of doing this - he just created a rubber catcher from a glove having a perfect rubber catcher on a coil :)
Most spark plug sockets have a rubber piece in them to grip the plug anyway
Spot on
thats... GENIUS!
Ethan's Jazz is special, it's got the most tasteful mod. An Allen key.
