      Thank you! This one does run well. I believe my fuel issue today was a result of a bad O-ring seal in the pickup tube in the fuel tank. I will see how it does on the next outing. Our weather has been similar. Upper 80s a lot last week. It was a gorgeous morning this morning. Getting storms again this afternoon. Back to normal spring temps here this coming week also. Well, it got a little hippity hoppity innthe third trim notch, but other in the second hole it settles right down and does great. It is a strong runner. I'll eventually get my trim tabs designed and mounted. We'll see then if I can get a little more out of it. I do use the tether kill switch whenever I have a motor on this boat that is set up for it. I like having the kill button mounted on the control box bracket too. As always, thanks for watching!

      I hope you get to feeling better soon. I didn't know you were not. I hope you get your 25 on the water soon as well. The 11P prop proved to rob some performance and top end from this motor. It did the best woth a 9x10 with me in this 12 foot boat. 9x9 would be a good choice with a load. That cut 2mph off the top speed but the holeshot was impressive. Thanks for watching, Dale!

      This motor is a good runner and is pretty quick. There is definitely a big difference made by a trim pin position. I knew 3 holes was going to be a bit much. I normally run in the second hole and it can be right on the edge of porpoising. I am working on a design for adjustable trim tabs on this boat. Once I have those installed, I should be able to run in the third hole and get the hull out of the water a little more. I may be able to get this thing above 30mph yet. Thanks for watching, Bill!!

      @billglennon8586 Před 2 lety

      @@oldjohnnyrude8404 you sure will Ben, adjusted right loads more speed. Only thing to watch with trim tabs is a big following wave, at slow speed, say trolling, or when you throttle off rapidly.. the water can land on those tabs and load some water over the stern.

      @oldjohnnyrude8404  Před 2 lety

      Yeah, that can be a pain. A square drive rubber hub on a splined prop shaft is definitely a more desirable option for that situation. I boat in a few places with stumps and submerged logs. I have been pretty fortunate to have not sheared too many pins or ruined too many props. I have buried a few in the sand and gravel lake bed and done a number on them. "Keep your prop outta the mud!" Do as I say, not as I do. LOL. Thanks for watching!

I have a Michigan AJC417 2-blade that I want to try, but it needs to be re-hubbed. The PJ18 is my go-to prop for any of my 22c.i. OMC motors though. Thankfully that prop is still being produced. • @oldjohnnyrude8404
      @oldjohnnyrude8404  Před 2 lety

      The 50hp uses a completely different carburetor than the 25hp. Does the primer bulb stay firm on your motor when it stops running? Will the motor pick up and run again if you pump the bulb as it is starting to die? I'm just wondering if you have a leak in the fuel line that is sucking air or the fuel pump is failing. If the carburetor is the problem, it may need to be rebuilt. Rebuild kits are available from BRP Johnson/Evinrude for these.

  • @JB-dy3mi

    I have a 1996 16' Landau V-Hull that's decked with 1971 25hp Johnson. With 45lb trolling motor attached I went 17mph this weekend on second test. Motor was short shaft and wouldn't go faster than troll. Put 5" shaft extension on for about $250. Prop is 9x9 and a bit chewed up. Trying to decide what new prop to get. A little more top end would be nice. I only tried first and second trim holes and no porpoising. Second time out no trolling motor. Didn't seem to gain any speed from first to second hole. Rear transducer is throwing a rooster tail. Not sure how much that would reduce speed.

    • @oldjohnnyrude8404
      @oldjohnnyrude8404  Před rokem

      I am not very familiar with your boat, but being it is a 1996 it is most likely a 20" transom. The issues you were having seem to reinforce this. I would consider 17mph about right for a decked 16 footer with a trolling motor and a battery running a somewhat abused 9x9 prop. Depending on how much weight you have toward the bow, you may get away with another notch of trim. If you're getting to full RPM with the 9x9 you may see some improvement in top end with a 9x10 but any more pitch than that and the 22c.i.. 25hp is not going to reach the RPMs where it is making its power. The transducer may be taking 0.5 to 1mph off your top end speed depending on how deep it is in the water. It takes some experimenting to figure out what works best. I hope this helps a little. Thanks for watching!

      @JB-dy3mi Před rokem +1

      Yeah, part of the fun is trying different things as long as you don't have to paddle home. Lol Appreciate the videos and info. I could try a new prop or put a 40hp 1966 on it for $500. Decisions, decisions.

    I got a 1974 johnson 25hp has 120psi in both cylinders so I started fixing it up.
    All new ignition system, fuel pump rebuild, new fuel lines, carb rebuild, top crank gasket.
    So today I did a test run on it and it’s purring nicely but I noticed oil/gas leaking out from (fuel pump side) crank case seam between the two half’s.
    Ever have this problem?
    Should I tear down and reseal or find a new power head?
    What kind of sealant should I use if I do?

    • @oldjohnnyrude8404
      @oldjohnnyrude8404  Před 9 měsíci

      Yes, inhabe had this problem and yes, the crankcase should be split and resealed. Leaking crankcase causes poor idle, lean running condition, inconsistent performance, potential engine damage, and a mess. Split it, clean it up, and reseal it. I use a thin coating of TreeBond anaerobic sealer on crankcase halves. Good luck with it. It sounds like you're almost there and it will be a good one when it's done. Thanks for watching!

      @@aaronstarlund8450 I would say the Loctite 518 should work fine. The lower crank seal in these engines is a carbon seal eoth an internal O-ring. As long as the carbon seal is not cracked you can safely leave it alone. If it is cracked, it will need to be replaced along woth a new O-ring. It is held in place with a spring, washer, snd snap ring. The carbon seal is very brittle so be careful if handling it.

    Thanks for trimming it back down, was getting sea sick watching the video! Sorry about the damn cover screw, that sucks. That old dog really does run nice, especially at idle, which is unusual for this vintage with that crummy recirc system. She really howls at WOT, wondering if it could handle an 11" pitch prop, although the 25s do run better when you let them wind up. Let's see come close ups of the starter and tiller grip, are you going to make these for sale?

    • @oldjohnnyrude8404
      @oldjohnnyrude8404  Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah, she was a little bouncy in the third hole. I was bummed when the tab broke out of the old housing. It turned out OK though. I does suck, but I managed to find a replacement midsection at Tomahawk last summer in the donation pile. I gave $5 for the housing I replaced the original with. It's blue and faded, but I don't mind it. You're sure right. These recirculation circuit 22 c.i. motors definitely suffered idle quality over the earlier ones. This motor is going to see some use this year. I'm working on a replacement cover with custom graphics. The original cover will be kept original for this motor though. I tried a PJ18 9.25x11P 3 blade and performance suffered a bit. These things like to scream. The 9x9 was not enough pitch and the 11 was a little much. The 9x10 seems to be the sweet spot. I have 2 more 2 blade props.to.rry on it just for grins. The SMC42 seems to.be the hot ticket though. Thanks for watching!

      I will give a closer look at the pull handle and the tiller grip in my next video. I plan to see if there is sufficient demand for the starter pulls. I have not decided to offer the tiller grips for sale yet. I like them, but they take a long time to print when done at a quality level I care for. It is possible I may offer them in some limited numbers. I have started a small cache of parts that I have modeled and can manufacture. Some carb knobs, choke pulls, cowl bumpers, rope plate and face plate grommets for 50s Johnsons, etc. that I will offer for sale at some club meets to test the waters a bit. Right now, I have the face plate grommets for the 5.5s, the 10/15/18, and the RDs. Still working on the 7.5.
