This Yema LED Review will cover all aspects of the watch including the quality, construction, functionality and whether you should buy one. This is the Cyberpunk watch!

@@StopFear I think every industry goes down that road every so often. Look at the Ford Thunderbird from a decade ago, for example. Remember when the fashion designers tried bringing bell-bottoms back? I count 4 watch companies bringing back their LED watches. Nixon might be new to the LED watch trend, but that makes 5 companies bringing something out for the analog challenged and LCD averse.

I own this watch and I find it brilliant. It's interesting that all haters in youtube comments are people who have no experience with the watch. I don't find it overpriced, although I agree the bracelet could be better (unless it's intentional to stay true to the 70s original) but otherwise I find it excellent value for money and I do not regret the purchase for a second. It's obviously a style statement, not a practical watch, so those who compare it to Casio digitals are completely missing the point, and therefore not for everyone, but if it's your thing, it's worth every cent.

Hey Ben. My uncle was the original inventor of the LED watch, so it's really cool to see continued interest in this design.
Check out the Armitron Griffy LED for some (really) cheap thrills. It's not technically a true LED segment watch like this one. Rather, it is an LCD with a red LED backlight. Regardless, for the money, it's a fun unique twist on a niche retro product and nothing else looks quite like it.

So full disclosure I have one of these watches. Why did I buy it? Well it’s build quality is very good, solid, heavy and feels good on the wrist, much better than the Casio’s you’ve shown on the video. It’s design is spot on - retro, modern, futuristic past. It’s so Star Trek! In building my watch collection I want quality pieces, something with uniqueness, does what it should do well, something that stands out, and at the same time is affordable. This holds its place in my collection. If it wasn’t for lockdown I think it would draw more comments than many watches, which is great as it’s always nice to engage in a horological chat!

At this price point, I would have expected automatic activation as well, though that's difficult to fit in the power budget. Maybe an arrangement of liquid metal switches (like mercury switches of the past, but made with a safe eutectic gallium alloy) or a single shake switch to provide processor wake-up, and then accelerometer to decide whether the processor goes back to sleep or powers on the display. That's a ton of engineering work but then that would differentiate it from a cheap toy.

I like the design although I do wonder if it would be readable in daylight and if I recall that was one of the biggest issues with LED displays when I was at school in the 70s when a couple of the other kids had them. The Hamilton although arguably silly money compared to the Yema is readable in all lights with that hybrid LCD and OLED layout. I guess it's a personal thing. I bought a cyberpunk watch for my girlfriend many years ago very cheap with LEDs and didn't knew. 😅 It is a black band, and you push to see the time and goes off after some seconds.

I was expecting it to be more expensive, especially given the recent Hamilton and Bulova remakes.

I have the Bulova and it costed less than this Yema, the Hamilton is a sort of deluxe watch with solid links bracelet and LCD/LED display, so it always shows the time.

First thought. Very nice, odd, and simple.

Have you thought of reviewing a Baby-G watch? Although they're clearly advertised for women, some models are exacly the same as the male versions with the only difference being slightly smaller and cheaper. It seems like a viable alternative for those like you (and myself) who are interested in G-Shock watches but cant go over the humongous size issue.

A bit smaller and a tad more readable, and I'd get one.
Also, Ben needw to clean the watches a bit more thoroughly before macros :)

5:46 I have some of these but not this brand and yes they did have such bad bracelets on them. So true to form I would say.

I just love of how these LED watches reissues (Yema and Bulova Computron) looks like. They look absolutely original and rad, nothing alike any. I just hope some chinese or someone copy their look and make a homage out of them with LCD watch for practicality reasons.

As simple as this watch is it does look like a lot of fun. Yema may be a great brand but I don't think this watch merits such a high price tag. Still, you gave a great review of this little watch.

Still, this one has something that the Hamilton has not. A ruby red Crystal. That is the part that I love the most about those vintage LED watches.

I think people are overreacting about the price. The case and band, module and display, are all made in France. The Bulova Computron reissue is pretty much the same price and it's entirely made in China.

Hi, do you have an opinion about a similar looking watch. The Armitron Griffy for $60?
