Fell in love with it the moment I saw the thumbnail, I might just have to treat myself! Thanks for the review!
I feel like I could strap on this watch, hop into my Viper and take on the Cylons.
i'm a big fan of sci fi and i'm with you on this one ;)
This video was pure class
**... just like an automatic watch...**
Damn, your channel has really grown, congratulations! Thanks for a great review of this cool watch. Yema is really on a roll this year.
Yema is killing it ! Thanks for showing us this watch my friend!
Hello, I just found and watched your review of the Yema LED watch. I was born in France and have been looking for a French made watch that was different and this certainly fits the bill! Thanks for a great review of a beautiful watch!
Who would have thought we would ever see reviews of retro digital designs! Awesome review! Always wanted a Citroen... this could be my next watch!
Love those strap options you chose, especially that brown leather strap.
Great review 👍
Great review. Bought one right away. Think it's really cool.
Good job! I like it with the leather band.
Terrific review. I've always been interested in watches and was a kid in the 70s, so I remember thinking those sorts of watches were really cool-looking. Price is great for this. I might have to look for one.
Not my type of watch, but I appreciate seeing some different types of watches - thanks for the review.
Your review nails it! Just received mine today and I agree 100%, though the bracelet feels fine, pulling hairs less than many of my solid link and mesh braceleted models for me. Really a cool fun addition to my collection! No regrets. Funky but Chic. It's a blast!
Dave you need to get a job at Yema's design head quarters, the straps you used actually IMPROVED the look of the watch, especially the milanase.
Lol, no they don’t. Quality issues aside, the original strap is the most convincing for this model.
Love this watch! Definitely think the mesh strap you put on it took it to the next level though
I love this style of watch. I remember buying a cheap homage ten years ago, which unfortunately did'n last much long since It was not water resistant. Bought another one recently, a little higher end and don't regret. I have no issues about havint do push the button to see the time, for me it's part of the fun. In my opinion it's way cooler than smart watches in general.
Neat watch. Thanks for the video Dave.
I still have my Commodore LED watch circa 1975 when I was a boy..... amazed to discover it still works - takes 2 batteries
*Superb review! Thanks. Im going for this one in Gold, but bought the Bulova Computron LED Retro in Silver ! Superb water resistance and this is less bulky than Bulova*
Reminds me of my Bulova computron. Looks super cool. Pleased to see it's roughly the same price as well.
A very different look Dave it’s nice to hav one that’s unusual for a change great vid 👍
Groovy man! Kidding aside - I'm liking this. Maybe it's nostalgia, but that's a sharp watch! Looks like a quality piece - which I would expect from Yema. Nice review!
Distressed leather actually looks surprisingly cool on this watch, lends it a sort of cyberpunk aesthetic.
Love it!😍🤤 I have a ton of Casio’s & a couple of late 1980, early 1990 Omega digitals. Yes I could add one easily👍🏼😎
Any issues on the bracelet for a 6-inch wrist? Will it articulate completely?
Reminds me my Texas Instruments pocket calculator. Still works well, and it is 40 years old.
Wow! That watch takes me back in time. I really loved my digital LED watches back in the day.......I would definitely buy one of these.
Digital watches ? Ali express mate $6 . A lot better than this and with more functionality 😁👍
@@davemck1887 I hate Ali Express.......I don't like waiting 6 weeks for a purchase.
@@SilverSergeant I was joking mate but, yeah I know what you mean. And then if you have to return it because it's faulty......😁👍
Had a Pulsar back in the 70's. Loved it but sadly it fell apart as I wore it all the time. Thanks for the memories.
Cool design. Another one of this kind is the Gerlach Kosmonauta, which is actually a reissue of a watch that went to space on one of the Soyuz missions. Do check it out!
Cool. I have a bulova n7 led watch that still works.
Thank goodness it doesn't have a propriety strap. Thanks for showing us this!
I enjoy these retro styled watches , my girlfriend bought me an Inexpensive LED Barcelona 666 spacemaker on a nice leather at the very start of my watch collecting which she liked as well.
Another cool one is from the Polish Watch Company Gerlach with their Kosmonauta 40mm, sapphire crystal and, solid bracelet, 100m water res, at 1200 Pln which is like 300 usd.
I really like these pieces and think it’s cool to have one in the collection.
Thanks for the video on it, definitely cool.
Really fun watch, thanks for making this review.
Just want to point out that the first Quartz watch, the Seiko Astron, came out on Christmas day 1969 - a week before the 70's began. 5 months later, the Hamilton Pulsar P1 was displayed to the public for the first time. It was the world's first digital watch, using an LED display. It would be sold to the public 2 years later. Neither was cheap, and both were sold in limited quantities. While the first quartz watches were analog, the bulk of watches being sold through the early 70s were still mechanical. The digital watch, first LED, and later LCD, was really what propelled Quartz into the mainstream. Quartz watch sales eclipsed mechanical watches in 1978, and has ever since.
I bought it in silver. Thanks for the review. Received it April 2, 2021. Took about 4 days. I considered the Hamilton to but $900 for an led the markup must be 1000 percent...at least!! I love this watc. Gets great compliments.
Very interesting and very cool. Although as much as I love that type of retro look, not sure it would be for me. I'd probably use it more as a backdrop piece for my videos.
Reminds me of the James Bond LED watch 💪
I think this watch is quite good looking. And all the straps look great on it.
I have to say this is pushing to the top of my wish list. I do love me some Geek chic.
Definitely retro!! Hamilton brought one out recently too. Very cool Dave 😎 👌 👍
Is there anywhere to buy this watch anymore?? It's my dream watch
There is another competitor of this watch, the Gerlach Kosmonauta from Poland. And that one even has sapphire glass on it.
And I think the Gerlach looks even better.
I was attempting to buy one, but I could not imagine to push the button every time I want to check the time.
great looking piece. Sadly, non of these new vintage LED watches have a Dot-Matrix LED.. that would ad an extra layer of coolness to these kind of watches
Got my eye on g shock square in all metal. Hoping to get a deal if I wait.
Battery type? Life? Replacement?
strap options is very good and at 20mm which is great.
What does the P stand for?
Wow Dave this takes me back I love it , and I would love to own one , but it's to pricey for me, I remember these LED watches were quite expensive in the 70's the first person I remember wearing one was Telly Savalas " KOJAK " who remembers him? keep up the good work and stay safe.
05:34 When the sign "JUST LIKE AN AUTOMATIC WATCH" came up, thousands of watch nerds suddenly cried out in terror, then suddenly silenced.
A great in-depth review, Dave. These look really cool. I need to check out Yema one day. The stuff they are putting out looks awesome. Did you dress like Marty Mcfly for Halloween?
Yeah, we're doing a couple of kids Halloween events this week, that's my costume!
Have you seen the Bulova
In this age when we have smart watches and bands yet we are fascinated by this
I'll take this over a smart watch any day.
I'll never need a phone on my watch.
I get one but I returned it because the P is not working it does not light up in 12hr mode
Marketingwise I think this is a very clever move from the watchbrands you mentioned (hamilton, yema, bulova). They look like the models that came out before the mass-production models (casio). The people who bought one then were the kind of people that could afford them but also embraced the new. Those original pieces were not cheap, so they get away with charging a lot more for them. Since they're mostly aiming at selling these to people who bought the originals and now feel the nostalgia. It worked for casio re-issues, why not for them?
yeah ! it was progressive / futurist ----- if the optimism of the 60s was in people and social change through movements, the optimism of the late 70s and 80s was in this idea that technology was going to be this huge inclusive and liberating thing --- led was MEANINGFUL because it was this great look toward something progressive ... my dad was an accountant for a zinc mine and I remember his excitement when they put in a computer (took up a whole room --- and the sound was incredible ) and after he learned the thing, they gave him a bulova computron ----- I was insane for it as a kid in the 80s LASERS !!!! TIME TRAVEL !!! TELEPORTATION !!!! lol that watch could do it all in my imagination ....
I love it It looks great and good on Yema for making it 100m water resistant I know a lot of people won't like it but realistically we live in a time when a watch is not a necessity it's just jewelry and as a piece of jewelry this beats a lot of watches IMHO Cheers
Very cool, bit like the cosmonauta
A coloured Sapphire crystal would be nice. It does look cool. I love the strap options. Vive la France.
I like the idea of premium digital watches but rolled links for authenticity? I am not buying it (in either sense). For that price, considering they don't need to put an expensive automatic movement inside, the whole thing needs to be premium, and premium to me means a solid link bracelet with a really nice buckle and nice finishing all over the watch. I think they could have got those functions out of a single button on the side, and even hidden the button with either a button flat to the side of the watch, put a setting button on the back, or a touch sensitive screen. It would make the watch more premium by making the watch more symmetrical.
Nope. This is as true to 1970s LED watch as is possible to make with modern tech. Putting in a sensor or upgrading the strap would greatly diminish the retro appeal.
Ohhh, I had seen a photo or 2 online, but thought it was a vintage watch photo! Very cool release in a retro geeky way (like the other 2 mentioned in the video). I do believe Hamilton has the PSR in stainless for something like $800. A bit too rich for just a fun retro watch for me, but I do like that the Hamilton has an always on screen. I really wouldn't like having to press the button.
I love it, looks better than the $1K Hamilton for me, some of the old LEDs had a wrist flick activation like some Casios, I wish they would use that but I am very tempted. AliExpress will probably have an homage out next week for $20, they already have the Bulova & something similar to the Hamilton for around $10.
You should review the Bulova Computron
14:46. Actually In this 'series of reruns' the Polish were first with the Gerlach Kosmonauta...
Love it Logan's run space Odyssey, 2001
Silver with a red dial (or screen in this case) nearly always works with a silver milanese, it's a good rule of thumb.
I want one of this :)
Very cool watch👍❤️
I wonder how long it would run with a perpetual display and could the power used by the leds be offset with solar. IMO itd be cooler if you could have the display on 24/7. Id make a cool looking bomb style watch anyways.😅 I know thats dark but I still found it funny.
I wish these retro watches had an option where if you tilt your wrist it would show the time like some Casio backlights and smartwatches do.
Amazing 🤩.
I remember going to a cocktail party with my parents when I was pretty little and one of the psychiatrists had one - maybe a TI (Texas Instruments) watch. He was showing it off to all the dads and receiving ooohs and ahhhhhs. I thought it was cool at the time.
I liked it on the milanese, but the leather and NATO left me cold.
I'm looking at the Computron - I like that look over this one, but I do like the Cylon look it has.
Cheers! !
One of the psychiatrists lol! You know a party’s about to get wild when there’s a team of psychiatrists on hand.
"Hey McFly, whats with the life preserver?"
Only kidding.. Outstanding review! Thank you!
I was actually giving my Halloween costume a test drive in this video...
@@JusttheWatch Great review. How big is your wrist. Mine is smaller at 7 1/2
@@rickcamp7807 mines 7.5" as well! But that's not small, it's actually a little on the large side.
It's a winner.
Had my Hamilton for two days and the end of one of the non adjustable links fell off.
Armitron has a LED 1970’s retro watch for 50-60- USD-the Griffy.
I was very interested watching this on what they were going to price this at. My guess was $199, being generous to Yema I thought. $259 is a little pricy, but it is pretty cool
a good comparison would be to the polish G. Gerlach Kosmonauta, a space watch. Retro issue of the first polish electronic watch that went with the first polish cosmonaut into space. price very similar.
This watch will go nicely with my Tesla CyberTruck. I want one, a CyberTruck that is.
The vintage "LED" watches in fact has a VFD display "Vaccum Fluorescent Display" much more acurate of this actual real LED display, no deformations in digits display with VFD.
What you don’t know is this model came after the Yema Kavinsky model limited edition watch!
Looks like a Cylon, cool.
Computron still wins for me. Especially the blue full metal version
Retro cool. I like it.
Its nice, i think i want the Bulova though. Both are cool. This does look better than the Bulova.
I like it
You should try the PSR. The quality of finish is on another level compared to this. As design goes, i love the Yema too, but Hamilton has a finishing on their watch, more in line with that price range.
Bring back to the 70s, nice
Marty is that you ? edit: ohhhh. i understood that reference
Ha, glad someone caught the reference. Was taking my Halloween costume for a test drive, figured it was appropriate for this peice.
@@JusttheWatch agree, and it suits you perfectly ! actually, i wear that look everyday, but with a merino wool sweater and not a shirt, and gray sleeveless parka. very practical, you have a lot of pocket and can pull off one or two layers through the day
A strange Yema's choice of the pressed bracelet. It looks much better on other options you showed.
The problem is how people gonna change the led once it died..? I guess the parts can only sold at yema company. And they need to bring the watch back to the yema. Its really hard when people is from different country
Looks to me it is not led, it is lcd covered with a red glass. But i m not sure though.
i wish i could go back to the 1960 so i could buy all the automatics for dirt cheap due to the quartz crisis,im lookin at you rolex
Nice
The folded link bracelet is a where they went wrong.
Looking for this watch. Anyone selling?
Maan this just screams retrofuturism, cyberpunk and synthwave to me. Imagine this with leather racing gloves while driving an AMG mercedes youngtimer or 80-90s white BMW 635 .... Damn.
Resembles the TIMEX SSQ from the 1970s.
It feels like something Gil Gerard would wear from the old Buck Rodgers TV show from the 70's!
I kinda want one now!
