Ok, doing it again with 3 colors would be fantastic! But instead of three single colors, do one layer pink and yellow, the next yellow and blue, and the top blue and pink. That could be cool!
Ooo that sounds fun!
The result is so stunningly beautiful! I would have expected a muddy mess, too, so I fully understand your hesitation to commit to what would have felt like an expensive catastrophe, had it failed, but they are all gorgeous! I absolutely love how each one looks! It so satisfying for any yarn enthusiasts craving for color!
Oh yeah, these are gorgeous. As a budget conscious crafter, I really appreciate dyeing videos that use primary colours.
I have plans to do more mixing in the future!
It was so hard not to skip to the end to see how it turned out! This is so gorgeous!
It was hard for me to not skip to the end, too!
Those turned out so very pretty 🥰
Please do this technique again with 6 different colors 😍
I wrote this down!
OMG!!! That gave three outstanding colorways.😲
Thank you so much!
Very interesting. I hated the look of mustard yellow, but you were correct- it’s the only surviving yellow in the end. Good call. Idea: Do this one in a jar, with combed top. But I’d have 3 or 6 chunks of top, so there could be layers.
Ooooo!!!! I love the combed top idea
Yes, especially if one of the sections of combed top was a grey, or a humbug fibre and one white, you would be able to see how differently the colours take on the different fibres.
This is amazing and I'm in love! The colors remind me of tropical birds. I have the day off tomorrow and a fresh shipment of yarn, so I know what I'm doing!
YAY! It felt so tropical bird like. I was afraid It would be sad or underwhelming, but now I need to try it again!
Such beautiful colors! Great job Rebecca, you always challenge us to experiment!!
Thanks so much 😊
Would love to see this with 3 colors. Primary again would be really pretty. Secondary colors or possibly like pink, purple, and blue would also be pretty.
I loved this result so much more than I thought I would
Woohoo! Lasagna dyeing! I want to see all your ideas for this technique
Shout out to there at the end
When you asked about Lasagna last night I was super excited
That video was so much fun. The colours are amazing. I love your enthusiasm for your craft.
You're very welcome!
This a good name for that colorway: Peacock Parrot
Right?!?
It feels like a tropical skittle pack. Delicious 😂
Now I really want skittles. I 100% see this!
I love love LOVE those middle skeins! Like aurora borealis!
Thank you, Andi!
I was a little worried that using 3 primaries and the honey mustard would make the colours a little muddy, but I love how the colours turned out, especially the middle layer, I loved how there was a bit of everything in there! I think the yarns would be gorgeous for weaving, where you would get further blending and layering of the colours.
Thank you!
Absolutely fantastic, fairy-tale colors.Technical suggestion. Text at the bottom of the video with information on how much time you "cook" or put in hot water.
I usually try to include all of that information in the video description with time stamps so you can jump to the relevant portion of the video. Typically I cook for 30 minutes unless I'm doing something unusual or the dyes are stubborn. (I always try to say how long I cook things for, but sometimes I definitely miss it if I'm doing multiple videos in one day!)
Yum ❤
Monet Waterlilies
Thank you!
I would have been worried about mud if I hadn't looked at the thumbnail first, but these turned out absolutely stunning! I'd be interested in two versions of a three-color approach: One with a single color on each layer, one with two colors (so, say, pink and blue, blue and yellow, yellow and pink). But probably the most interesting comparison there would be how they behave as a fade. Maybe one of these days you could collab with a machine knitter to get quick results on the old "But how do these look when worked up?" question!
I'm so bad at sharing photos people send me. I always have intents to organzie the finished yarn + finished project photos but I never end up getting that done
I have loved dyeing with just 3 colors for years. I leave the combed yarn in a bowl overnight and then heat everything with vinegar to fix it and then always wait excitedly for the result.
I have never done this with finished yarn, but I have 1000 grams of my own spun Rambouillet waiting to be dyed and I will dye it with rust, turquoise and purple and let it become 100 colors overnight and I am already looking forward to it!
Thank you for inspiring me!
💛🧡💜🌻
That turned out so pretty! I do so love the idea of a rainbow set, I'd probably have considered another layer after treating the layer before with extra yellow on the bottom then a bit of pink on the top, aiming for the whole rainbow! Or do a taller lasagna and just repeat the same colours? Yeah like the minisskeins you did before, yeah yeah yeah!!!
I'm so excited to try more... but also nervous because it is a lot of yarn in one video.
Just lovely! Would love to see what Don does/did with this. What a haul!! Thank you.
Me too!!
Thats a wild result!!
I love love love this. This is my favourite yarn you've ever dyed (and that's saying something, since I've watched all your videos over the years). Would love to see further experiments with this technique, too.
Wow, thank you!
Loved this yarn lasagna technique - the color variations are so lovely! ❤ I’m thinking I might give this one a try (watching your videos has really given me the urge to dye yarn for my own knitting projects).
YAY! Go for it, it is so much fun
This is one of my favourite videos! I’d love to see more of this!
Thank you so much!
True turquoise, pink orchid and.....sunflower yellow!!!!
I don't use sunflower yellow enough. Do you like using it? I've only used it a handful of times
Yes! I would love to see this! Sunflower yellow is one of my fav yellow dyes
Absolutely beautiful
Absolutely beautiful ❤
What fun! Ii love it. You have to try it again with just primary colours 👍👍
Thank you!
They are all just gorgeous!! Love this method
Thank you so much!
The pink and purple remind me of rose of sharon flowers
I would like to see this done again with 1 TBL spoon added to the water in between layers.
I'm assuming you mean adding acid between layers? This would mean that there would be acid in the yarn that I layered on top of the previous layer, so it would be similar to just starting out with acid (although the first layer would get more coverage) This is something i could try, but I know from experience that it is harder to spread powders very far if I've added acid first.
Oh my, some of those in the pics. Gorgeous! I don't need yarn. I'm heading to your Etsy shop. Enabler!!!!😅😅
chemknitscreations.etsy.com/ I don't have any more yarn from this video, but there is so much other yarn.
these came out so beautifully!!
Thank you!
Yes!! Do it again!!!😊❤
Awesome, thanks for the +1 for doing it again.
These yarns are some of the loveliest I've seen you dye. Fabulous!
Wow, thank you!
Gorgeous colors! What would happen if you didnt squish the dye in and just let the sprinkles spread on their own? Either with citric acid mixed with dye or adding vinegar at the end and let things sit for hours.
I think without squishing they wouldn't mix very much, but it's hard to know for sure
The yarn is beautiful and what I had hoped for
I'm so so glad you like it! I adore how it turned out, it was way better than I had hoped.
I plan on making a shawl with the set
@@dawnjanz Sounds stunning!! Thank you again for suggesting this project and taking the color risk on. I'm super excited to explore this further.
One of my fav episodes ever . Love these colours . Please do more with other colours
Wow, thank you!
I really want to see how this would work if you alternated the direction of the yarn and dye placement. So the first layer is along the length of the pan for the yarn, and the dye is across the width, and then with layer two switch that and run the yarn width-wise and the dye length-wise.
Ooo this is an intersting idea!
Stunning! After we had this conversation in chat, months ago, I learned that this is a common way to dye wool fabric for rug hooking to get a wedded palette. I'm going to give it a try and share the results on your FB group!
Oh cool!
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh these will work up so amazing
Thank you!!
Very cool!! Reminds me of EFA yarns!
Thank you!
I Love This!!! Gorgeous!
Thank you! 😊
I think this is my favorite of all I've seen you dye!
Wow thank you!
I wonder what would happen if you had a dye powder and citric acid mix on some of the layers...or one of them. It would be interesting how it would influence the spread and appearance of the colours.
I think that would limit the spread of a lot of colors - especially on superwash yarn. I find that some colors when I add with acid - even cold, will strike super super fast and not move very far from where they were initially placed. it depends on the pigments, though.
I wanna see true turquoise, bright aqua, pink orchid and Washfast Orange Peel together. I would make clown barf. You won't.
I thought I would make complete mud! I don't know how I didn't. I feel like I occasionally end up with something I don't like...
Maybe do what you did but add a sprinkle of yellow in the bottom before you add the yarn. Great video!
That would be super pretty!
I think it really made a difference that you used the worsted instead of DK or fingering.
I think worsted vs sock would make a difference, but worsted vs DK would be super similar with surface area. (I think worsted is 220 yards, and DK is 246 maybe?)
oh these are all so beautiful! those middle skeins in particular are absolutely gorgeous! may have to try this technique for my next jumper project
It turned out SO FUN! I was so pesamistic at first (i mean, for me... lol)
❤love this idea!!
Thank you!
So the lasagna guess last night was really someone just channeling the prediction for the next dyepot weekly!
Based on the fact that the bottom layer seems to have the biggest patches of unmixed color, I'm curious about whether it's a feature of the color or the placement. Does the pink just read as "pink" even when mixed a little bit while yellow is more obviously adjusted? I would love to see a primary mix yarn lasagna with yellow as the first layer.
I think that the pinks can strike faster and transfer less, or else maybe I just used a lot more of them? I'm not sure.
Amazing outcome and totally unexpected xolourways I was certain this was a recipe for muddy colours ........so pleased I was wrong I may try and recreate your experiment
Thank you so much 😀 I was concerned about mud, but I did know that equal amounts of the three primaries would give something pretty. (And mud can be beautiful, too!)
Sooooo pretty. With the mini skiens could you put them sideways so they scrunch?
Oh that would work!
These colors turned out so gorgeous!
Thank you!
It shocks me how when it's laid out I can say 'I don't like that very much' but then when it's hanked up my opinion changes. I like it hanked up so much better. However, I'm not a huge fan of yellow but I love how the bright yellow mixed with the blue and made a green. The mustard yellow just made me cringe, even when it's finished that is my least favorite area on the hanks. Now in the video you talked about how the blue was on the bottom. Pink was the bottom and blue in the middle, which explains why blue traveled to the top layer and the bottom layer, it was in the middle after all. :)
I cringed a bit at the mustard at first, too. I do like how it turned out in the end, but I wish maybe I had just stuck with the single yellow. Maybe next time!
I think that seeing yarn hanked up can change my opinion sometimes because it looks more like it might look when things are knit - you see the colors mixed up a bit more.
Beautiful ❤❤❤
Thank you! 😊
ooo i love this! good job :)
Thank you!
Gorgeous! How different do you think the yarn would look if you put them in a different order like yellow on bottom, pink in the middle and blue on top?
I expect the yellow would still have been overrun, but it's hard to know exactly how it would turn out!
Cant believe i got here so early....but man do i want a lasagna now
Same! lol
@ChemKnits Tutorials hahaha I make a anamzing quorn lasagna...my mom makes these cheese sauce from scratch cause I can never get it right 😂😂
georgous
Thank you!
This is an amazing gradient! I love it!!
Thank you so much!
