  • Took advantage of the weather to use the Front End Loader ( FEL ) on the Kubota B2601 Compact Tractor. I think I need a little more practice. :)) It's definitely a learned skill. Join me in the outdoors, here at the cottage. Cheers!

    When you are in position to make your run at the pile, tip the bucket downwards until you feel the front end start to lift. Drive into the pile and level the bucket as you lose momentum. When you lose momentum again, start curling the bucket upwards. You'll be digging deeper into the base and get fuller loads.
    I am envious of that grapple of yours. :)
    Later,,
    William

      Good day William. Thanks for the key pointers! I will give it a try for sure. Yes, that grapple has come in pretty handy. Definitely a good purchase. I have had it on the tractor more than the bucket. Cheers and all the best!

    Good work. I spread a lot of gravel with my B2650. I find it super useful to put the loader in float and tip the bucket forward when back dragging. You can slowly curl the bucket back as you drag leaving the loader in float. The gravel levels really nice over a long run. Takes some practice but you are only dealing with the bucket curl and not the up and down with the loader as well. The more you have the bucket curled forward off the start the harder it digs in. Tilt back to pull less gravel and slowly curl until you the the desired result.

      Hey that's great advice Andrew- thanks ! I noticed a few times I didn't get it into float and saw the difference. As well I was not sure which was best - using the front or the heel of the bucket but appreciate the comments above and will try it that way the next time. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment. Cheers and have a great week!

    I probably moved about 30 yards of topsoil and over 100 yards of wood chips this past year as a brand-spanking-newbie with my B2601, and boy was it rough in the beginning! Getting half-scoops, slamming the bucket down, lifting the bucket up too high and having it all blow back in my face, knocking the control lever with my knee and dumping the whole load where I didn't want it... you get the idea (some of it I captured on video and shared... but some I edited out, LOL). And then I had to learn it all over again with the dozer blade this winter! Haha, nice job though, and thanks for sharing!

    You definitely did great! We all have to remember you were scooping in a mostly frozen pile of gravel. It would have been much easier if it was not frozen. And I seriously think you would have gotten full buckets each time if it was not frozen. In that situation, you had to shave the pile, to loose small frozen gravel layers at a time, which you did. One trick by the way. When you want to spread gravel near the shed's wall, you may want to scoop with one side of the bucket into the gravel pile (given much more loose gravel, not frozen!). So let's say only the left half of the bucket will fill. Then you will dump gravel only and mostly near to the shed's wall (that would be on your left). Thanks for posting this video! I see a lot of editing time to make the video even more enjoyable!

      Good morning Joe. Thanks for feedback and the ideas above. Good trick to get more close to the edges. Next time you have to dig from a pile try working the pile from different sides . So take one bucket from the front then one from the back and so on . What happens is as you dig from the same spot you actually compact the pile and it makes digging harder and moving around prevents that compaction. Nice video stay safe.

      Good morning Anthony! Thanks very much - I will try that the next time. I will be ordering more gravel this spring. Have to admit, that had me laughing pretty hard. But hey, I learned on a BX, and anyone who’s ever operated both a BX and a B can tell you they’re two very different machines as far as loaders, despite their similar size. The BX is much softer to control than the B. You’re doing great. One tip I have is to practice curling and lifting/lowering at the same time while in motion. That helps me cover both of the areas in the video where I could see a wee bit of improvement possible. First one, when you were switching from grapple to bucket (and by the way, you are DEFINITELY getting your money’s worth out of that grapple) when you drop the attachment from your loader try curling forward and lowering while reversing, all very slowly. It works great, and that way you don’t scrape the bottoms of your quick attach. Obviously to put a different attachment on do the opposite, but that’s just my advice. I still haven’t mastered it either, so we’re learning together, buddy. The second one was when you were taking bucketfuls, take your time and watch the top of your bucket to make sure it’s level or relatively level, then ram into the pile at full speed (in Low, ideally) and lift/curl back as soon as you hear the machine bog down a little. That should help with your “empty bucket” situation. Like I said, the loader on the B is pretty jerky. For the plow I’ve learned to just slowly feather the back of the joystick with the palm of my hand and that way I don’t get a huge jerking motion when I drop the loader. Once again, you’re doing great. You’ll be better than me in no time. Once again, awesome video. All the best from MN. Take care.

  • @brianmedeiros417
    @brianmedeiros417 Před 5 lety +1

    Love the videos. What rpm do you like to use when using the fel? How about when using the tractor in general? I’m usually around 1200 rpm and think that I’m probably too low.

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  Před 5 lety +1

      Good morning and thanks Brian! My RPMs idle around 1100 -1200 on the B2601 and top range is about 2900. In general I use the FEL around 1800-1900 or so. It goes slow enough that I can learn how to use the motions of the joystick etc and enough power to do almost anything I do. Very seldom do I ever have to rev higher to get that extra little bit of power to lift. I usually run the tractor in that range in general. I got some good advice a little while back ( because I didn't know any better and would always run the tractor at top rpm which makes everything respond too fast for me to learn). Since you have been using it at 1200, bump it up a little - maybe to 1800 - and use that for a bit and see how that feels. While you do work always listen to the engine and sounds of the hydraulics. Its hard for me to explain but you will soon start to recognize the sounds it makes when it starts to labour too much. Then just keep adjusting and using at different levels until you are able to use it 90% of the time without hearing it "labour'. When it does labour, just pop up the rams a bit till it stops and continue doing your work. What I understand is that you could run the engine at full out RPMs all the time if you want , or at any level, but you want the tractor to be at an RPM where it can lift and do things without hearing that straining (labouring) sound, most of the time. I hope that helped a bit - sorry if it was a long answer. Good luck and let me know how it turns out!

    • @brianmedeiros417
      @brianmedeiros417 Před 5 lety +1

      Makes total sense. Your videos helped me decide to get one of these models. Using it to clear 4 acres of brush. The grappler you have would be an ideal attachment. Keep up the great work!

    • @brianmedeiros417
      @brianmedeiros417 Před 5 lety +2

      GP Outdoors what a difference in power! I thought I was going to break it at 2000 rpm so I never used it that high but it feels like it can handle most tasks that I have. My neighbor showed me how to use the joystick slowly even with high rpms. I am practicing moving the joystick slightly to make it move as slow as I want. It takes a very light touch but I won’t have to worry about moving the bucket so fast that I drop something too fast. Thanks for your help!

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  Před 5 lety

      Good morning Brian. Happy to hear! That's great. I am still trying to get smoother with the joystick but getting better each time. It seems to be quite a skill to be able to curl and lift at the right times and in the right proportions but with practice I am sure I will get the hang of it. Glad it is going well for you. Have a great weekend!

  • @rickoliver5684
    @rickoliver5684 Před 4 lety +1

    the grappler is not really a gravel implement. The bucket would have more success. Get some teeth for your bucket because a straight blade really doesn't break stuff up when frozen. And they are easy to take on/off. Next time you get pile of sand, dirt, gravel put a tarp over it to the rain/snow off of it an d you'll be able to use it year round.

      Good morning Charles. I am not sure of the exact size of the gravel but we call it "Crusher Run" up here. It has small gravel (probably less than 1/2") and includes the dust in it. My excavator friend has always recommended it because it has the gravel dust in it so as you continue to drive on it and it goes through rain etc the gravel will pack in hard. He says if you use it , try to put it down before September, so it has a chance to go through rain multiple times etc before the temperatures start to get cold. Hope that helps. Cheers!

      Des Moines, Washington (about 15 miles south of Seattle). We inherited my wife's family farm near Bellingham (100 or so miles north of home), so we spend a lot of time up there. It's 20 acres, mostly hay and rich with opportunities for tractor use - hence my interest in Kubotas. In 2019, I'm looking to buy an L4701 - I have brush to hog, trees to skid, post holes to dig, shrubs to pull, and can use it to cut and bale the hay.
