    I'm specifically interested in the following topics:
    1. how to dig up large iceberg boulders in the ground
    2. how to mow thick and heavy brush on uneven terrain with stumps and rocks all over the place - which implement is best for this
    3. road building / trail carving

    Yes, that is a great tool but at 450 lb.s it really limits your lift cap. on a small tractor. I bought a "Wicked Root Grapple" from Everything Attachments that comes in at 210 lb.s and it should be here in about a week. The design is very much like your unit and it is supposed to be 55 inches wide with a 37 inch open position and uses two hyd. cylinders one on both sides. They use a very high dollar steel to get the weight down and they tested it on you tube with a 60hp 4X4 tractor (Kubota). I will let you know how it works out when I have worked it a bit.

    Nice grapple sir. One thing I think is overlooked in most grapple videos is the width. I run a 60 inch model even though my bucket is a 72. Most of my work is in the woods clearing brush so the narrow width makes it easier to maneuver.

    Wow, love the grapple! I think I'm going to have my Kubota dealer add the third function hydraulic kit to my BX2380 during scheduled maintenance this fall. I can get some use out of it now if I add the hydraulic deflection option to my snow blower, and also be prepared for a loader/grapple down the road. Certainly don't need a high dollar option just for the snow blower deflection, but I've seen enough videos of you using that grapple now to know that I'll want one eventually. I'll just have to make sure I manage my expectations with my little subcompact. Looks like fun though!

    Good Morning GP - I am shopping for either a B2601 or B2650. When sitting with the dealer and selecting implements the dealer was reluctant to go with the HLA Root Rake (RRGLD60) due to it's weight and the loader capacity of either the 2601 or 2650. The dealer is suggesting the Land Pride SGC0660 which is about half the weight of the HLA. The SGC06 series does not look as robust as the HLA and I don't like the cross bar reinforcing the tangs just a few inches from their tips which could affect how deep the root rake can penetrate. Have you ever had any issues with the HLA grapple when it comes to loads you have tried to work? The dealer was also concerned about the 3rd function hydraulic being able to support the HLA. Thank you in advance for your comments and please keep up the fantastic videos.

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  Před 5 lety +1

      Good morning and congratulations BW! You must be very excited, especially if this is your first tractor. Here's my thoughts and hope it is helpful. I bought my HLA grapple from my Kubota Dealer when I bought my tractor, and the dealer installed my 3rd function valve as well. (?) The SGC is made of high tensile carbon steel and the HLA is made of commercial steel so the HLA is about 200 lbs heavier, which means you lose 200 lbs of lift capacity between the two. I am not sure what type of things you will want to do with it, but Landpride makes good equipment. I wouldn't worry about the reinforcing bar as it is there to reinforce, but also if you are "raking" through soil, it is there to help keep the tines from digging down too deep as you push through. (not sure that model is designed to "rake" though). I have never used a SGC so I cannot really give an opinion on it further but it will be good quality coming from Kubota, I think. If I had to chose between the two again, I would buy the HLA again for sure, but I might buy the 54" instead - I am not sure the extra 6" is important, and it would weigh a little less, if that's a concern. If the price difference between the B2601 and B2650 is reasonable to you and within your budget, then I would get the B2650 - a little heavier, about 2 inches more ground clearance and a little more lift capacity. Don't get me wrong, I love that 2601 and it has done most everything I need but the reason I didn't get the 2650 was because the gap in price was the primary reason back then, among a few other things. I am not sure I helped. LOL. But in short if you are doing some real hard, heavy, tough work with the grapple, then I would take the HLA for sure. If clearing bush, grappling logs etc then I am sure the Landpride will work great. Good luck BW! Let me know how things turn out. Cheers!

      @@GPOutdoors Thank you GP, I appreciate your insights. I have always leaned towards the HLA Root Rake, I like the overall design and it just looks solid. The B2650 is about 10% more in price, primarily because the dealer has some 2018 B2601 in inventory while the B2650 is new stock. I will keep you posted...

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  Před 6 lety +1

      Hey good evening Nate. No worries - thanks so much for watching through them. I chose the HLA honestly because it was recommended to me by someone I trusted. It is definitely heavier than a land pride ( which I know folks say reduce the overall lifting capacity of the FEL) and it is not made of high carbon steel ( it is made of commercial steel) , but it is thick steel, it has a root rake design which helps me dig out rocks etc from the ground, and as you will see throughout the videos, it grabs and digs, and still lifts just about anything I have needed it for. I also liked the single hydraulic piston design and that the cylinder was fully protected, and I liked that it had pointed thick steel tines for grabbing and digging. I think that is about it. So far, not a single concern with it ( knock on wood). Cheers and talk again soon!

      You're welcome. Landpride makes good equipment. I can't remember if they are made from high carbon steel or commercial steel but as you do your diligence looking at different manufacturers, ask how much they weigh. If it weighs less than 400 lbs, then ask if it is made of high carbon steel or commercial. High carbon steel is good stuff (I have been told). Good luck Nate!

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  Před 6 lety +2

      Good morning Paul. Yes, I put it in float when on relatively flat land, and then lift it if or as needed. What you probably could not tell from the camera angle is that I was grappling up a sharply sloped hill (the sides of where my septic is) so I had to be careful and was manually positioning it as I got higher up the slope. It is an HLA Attachments Root Rake Grapple (Light Duty - RRGLD60). It is pretty heavy as it is made of commercial grade steel so not as light as others that may be made from Higher Grade Carbon steel. Lots of different models to choose from. If you watch 94Bullitt's Channel, he made a really good video about 7 months ago on what to look for when buying a grapple - its very thorough and helpful. Thanks and have a great weekend!

    Merry Christmas GP,
    I'm also one of your viewers having a difficult time deciding on a grapple. Unlike you I don't need it for logging, but I also have the exact same situation you have with needing to clear the same types of tall weeds and brush. I have the same size tractor as you and I'm wondering what your thoughts are about the width of the grapple? A salesman at EA attachments is recommending a 60" grapple. I also want to use it to drive burrowing rodents (gophers, voles, and chipmunks) out of the landscaped portion of my property.

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  Před 4 lety +1

      Good evening TK! A really good question and I can understand your confusion. There are so many different types of grapples. Single cylinder, dual cylinder. High carbon light weight, versus heavier commercial steel grapples. Ones with large tangs and ones with shorter tangs. Although I am not an expert by any means, I can only offer you the following suggestion. Watch a whole bunch of videos on the different types of grapples. At some point you will see a type that most resembles what you think you will need. Honest. There are several different types but lots of videos on them. All you can do is make the best decision based on what you see. They are not cheap by any means, but the grapple I use here, is not necessarily the best grapple configuration for your needs. But the nice thing about grapples, is that overall, they can handle a lot of different types of uses.Watch a lot of videos, and then make a table on a piece of paper and capture the key specs of each grapple, including price, from different manufacturers, and that will help you to make your final decision. Grapples generally do the same thing, but the different configurations just mean that they are specifically good at a certain thing, even though they do other things. Sorry for being so wordy, but I hope that has helped a little. But bottom line, as you have seen on the channel, I use my grapple, literally 90% of the time. It's the best attachment I invested in. Good luck and hope it helped. Cheers!

      @@GPOutdoors Thanks, that is some very good advise. About 7 years ago when I first considered a grapple for my M9540, I spent all my time on Tractorbynet (pre youtube for me) reading about the grapples but in the end I couldn't justify buying one. Now with 7 years tractor experience under my belt and a new tractor.... AND two months of watching tractor videos on CZcams, I can see getting one for my B2650 to help me around my large property. I've pretty much pared down the different styles to a couple, but I still need to decide on the final size that my smaller tractor is going to be able to best handle. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

      I love it. It hangs on to everything I pick up plus it has built in “kickstands” so it’s easy to hook up to. It’s somewhere around 200 lbs so I don’t loose much lifting capacity just carrying it around

      @@williamangus8163 ty for the response Think the dealer wants $1750.00 for it so I will have to keep saving for that plus 3rd function kit.

      I’d definitely buy it for that price. My dealer charged me $2080 for the grapple $500 for the quick attach and $1000 for the 3rd function and then tax.

    Do you still use the grapple for this, or do you use the flail mower?

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  Před 4 lety +1

      Good day! I use the grapple on the brush primarily although I have most of it removed now. I don't have the flail mower any longer but could have used it for sure. All the best!

      Good morning Bryan. It is made by HLA Attachments. It is their Root Rake grapple - Light Duty 60". If you are here in Canada you can get them at Farmer Equipment Sales, or in the US, I believe Courtney at Good Works Tractors sells them too. Best of luck!

      Hey good morning Mech. That was really very kind of you to do this 'digging' for me. I had found out about recently and contacted them. Unfortunately they don't make bars for the B series yet, or my bucket model. They only currently make one to fit the sub compact BX series. But thanks for looking for me, I appreciate it. Have a good one !!

    How wide is it how much does it cost ?

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  Před 5 lety

      Good day. It is a 60" grapple and not sure of the cost depending on where you live but it is not sold direct from the manufacturer, only through retail dealers. If you live in Canada, I know Farmer Equipment Sales sells them - if you check their website, I think they have pricing there for different sizes. Cheers!
