This is the first time I've ever posted a comment on a CZcams video. I just wanted to say your series of videos are some of the best teaching videos for scripting ever. Your approach of slowly building on the topics is fantastic. You have a true gift in your teaching method. For a non-programmer and old gamer, giving me the tools to create a truly epic game for my old friends that I can't see in person any more is fantastic. Thank you for everything you have put together. I wish I was a marketing person with the savvy to make any new person (and probably old hats too) who starts a game with Roll20 to watch your videos. I'm so glad I found them. Thank you for everything you do!
All of your Roll20 API series of videos have been just amazing, well explained and as a new GM to using Roll20 (having been a player user for years) have really helped me to set up my current Pathfinder game to automate some of the more time consuming aspects that slow a session down.
Great video has really helped me add a new dimension to my game. Does anyone know if the API is able to detect passive perception and saving throws if my players are using D&D Beyond along with the beyond 20 chrome extension?
Great video...when added two traps on the same page things seemed to get messed up. I could not get passive perception to fire again even if I deleted the yellow ring with two traps.
Out of curiosity, how does this script work with animated traps? I was looking at picking up some trap tokens in the Marketplace and saw a few very cool animated ones but I figured I should ask first. Do you think that a static graphic is better with this script?
This was awesome, but I think I messed up the turn tracker. I had it loaded, but when I went to a new map, the yellow turn tracker icon was randomly there. I deleted it, but now when I set up a combat, everything else works, but the hello glyph turn tracker. It’s nowhere to be found. I tried refreshing the page, removing & reapplying the script, and still nothing. Anyone have any ideas? Thank you!
That's an interesting scenario - I don't think this script will allow for that, but someone over on the Roll20 API forums might have an idea on how you could achieve that - app.roll20.net/forum/category/46806 Good luck, and happy gaming!
It's not pinging that the trap is there, nor is it showing the dex save DC nor the damage. It is however moving to the Map layer when the token moves onto the trap.
If the player moves past the trap, the API will grab their token and move it back to the center of the trap, or to the edge, depending on the setting you've chosen.
Nick, I've been testing this process out and I seem to have a bug... when my icon approaches the trap for the first time, the passive perception works as normal. However, when I move the token away and "reset" the trap (by deleting the highlight around the trap per you video), when the icon approaches again, they don't passively see the trap - though it activates when they move over it. Any ideas?
Hey Nick, yep - followed your video - the token is on the GM layer when the PC approaches and the highlight ring appears as they trigger the passive perception. I move them away and delete the ring... but when they move forward again, the passive perception does not trigger.
Hi Steve - The trap also needs to be put back on the GM layer, in addition to deleting the ring. After you delete the ring, right click on the trap and select Layer>GM Layer. If that doesn't fix it, then I'd say post to the Roll20 forums.
@@NickOlivo can we switch them off? I have a large map, so the squares are relatively small and these icons take up a lot of the nice graphic I used for the trap...
I tried using this mod and I keep getting a JSON error. The mod added Vector Math, Matrix Math, Path Math, Token Collisions, HTML Builder, Character Sheet Utils, It's a Trap, and It's a Trap 5E upon install. Now I am confused as to which one might be causing the error. I am on the Jumpgate, using D&D default sheet.
I'm not sure about that, sorry. I'd say post this issue over on this forum - app.roll20.net/forum/category/46806 - and someone there may be able to help.
Is there any way to edit the bizarre little header that says "IT'S A TRAP!!!" or otherwise remove it? I'd like it to say something more tonally appropriate, like "You spy a golden glimmer..." or "Ambush! Curse them!" etc etc but failing that I'd just like to be rid of it
Not that I'm aware of. But you could post that over in the Roll20 forums and someone there might be able to offer a suggestion app.roll20.net/forum/category/46806
@@NickOlivo how else would the passive Perception and that stuff be quantified? I’m a little green so I can only think it’s the values attached to the token from the mancer.

Thanks for this, Nick, very helpful.
This is a script I use all the time in my campaigns. 10/10 for this api.
This is really terrific! Thanks, Nick! My players all think I'm a genius because of you lol
gracias por los videos Nick!

Great video. Are there any settings that would help to handle advantage on saves like with a 5e barbarian's danger sense?
Glad you liked the vid! I couldn't find any settings that would let you grant advantage on the save, though.
Great video...when added two traps on the same page things seemed to get messed up. I could not get passive perception to fire again even if I deleted the yellow ring with two traps.
Glad you liked the video! Is the trap on the GM layer? Also, check and make sure the trap hasn't been disabled. Hope that helps!

I've seen some people use it with animated graphics and it seems to work just fine. Give it a shot and see how you like it. Happy gaming!

Hi Nick, does the ST take advantage/disadvantage into account? thanks
Hi Stef - no, I don't think that it does.
Cool
is there a way to make a trap that will only activate if all of the party members are in the area of effect?
That's an interesting scenario - I don't think this script will allow for that, but someone over on the Roll20 API forums might have an idea on how you could achieve that - app.roll20.net/forum/category/46806 Good luck, and happy gaming!
Where did you find all those trap graphics
I bought them from the Roll20 marketplace - if you search for trap graphics you should find them.
Do you have to be using Roll20 character sheet for this to work, or will it work with a DnDBeyond character sheet? Thanks!
So far as I know, you have to use a Roll20 character sheet for this to work.
It's not pinging that the trap is there, nor is it showing the dex save DC nor the damage. It is however moving to the Map layer when the token moves onto the trap.
Nick, how do you ensure the players have to drop their tokens near the trap instead of just dragging them completely across the trap?
If the player moves past the trap, the API will grab their token and move it back to the center of the trap, or to the edge, depending on the setting you've chosen.

Any idea why I'm getting Web and Blindness token markers on my trap token after it gets activated?
So far as I can tell, the icons are there to help distinguish the trap from the rest of the elements you may have on the map.

What's the command to launch the api; I've loaded it from the library.
Not sure, to be honest. The macro that's added by the script does everything for you, so I just go with that.
I['m assuming this requires use of the charactermancer? I only ask because we use Beyond20 to link to dndbeyond and we don't use the mancer.
Hi Chris - I believe so, but I haven't tried this out myself.

@@chrisbolducrowan5110 I think you're probably right on that.
