“I’m not asking you to like it. I'm asking you to do more than that. I'm asking you to be able to see that's the most wonderful thing in the world that these people could be doing”

Hej :D fra danmark her! Er du interesseret i at øve NVC? - Der er mange fra USA på discord, men tidszonerne gør det svært at få øvet.
.. og det vidste jeg heller ikke xD

You know, i Think that power and freedom are really the same thing, at their core. They are both about being able to do what you want. Its just that power has gro a bad connotation, and freedom has Got a good connotation, At least in our culture.

39:27 Now, I do not ask these people in Sierra Leone to do this first. Not until we've empathized with their feelings about it. You see, I wouldn't want to even think of getting them to empathize with why somebody has cut off the arms of one of their children until they've healed from the pain that that's created.

As much as I enjoy Marshall's videos, I get frustrated when participants are talking, sometimes trying to compose their thoughts, and he starts talking before they're finished.
And I see it happening even more with women, which is a double pain to me, because I deeply value gender equality and I would really have needed some fairness, especially coming from a man I deeply admire who is, I reckon, quite aware of sexist biases and gender-based roles (reffering for exemple to his John Wayne concept of masculinity).
I don't know if he preferred to insist on some NVC theory, without taking the time to empathize with some of the participants, because he needed to get the seminar going for most of the people present here, or if that was his old "psychoanalytic self" seeping through the present, but seeing the woman at 1:13:16 roll her eyes in frustration to him repeating that there is no such thing as criticism made me uncomfortable, and kinda made me write this comment.
Well at least it stimulated my pain, which stimulated my writing haha !
But all in all, I really would have liked to see some empathy and some time taken to strenghten an empathic connection towards her, rather than most of the responses he gave her, even though I agree with his point.
"Empathy before advice" he once said in a session. I would have liked to see that at this moment.
Maybe he was still being infused with some "period-based sexism" given that he was born a while ago.
I don't know, I won't go and try to diagnose him, but it helps me feel a little better to see it as a byproduct of his education, rather than as if he didn't care, which I'm sure isn't the case ! He might even feel great sadness to see himself act as he did if he was video-taped.
If you've read this long, I'd like to know if some of you have had the same (or not) feelings, because I've read a few comments in the part 1 of this session that were concerned about the same topic !
    Cheers from France !

thank for your sharing whats inside of you about that. i didn't felt any discomfort watching this, maybe because i got clear one thing earlier, also expressed by Rosenberg. " you interupt when you hear 1 word more than you want to hear, but interrupt not to disconnect from dialogue, but because words are not helping to connect, and you interrupt to bring dialogue back to life", "especially in limited time meetings" . It was looking to me exactly that , it didnt looked to me that she was needing more empathy and space, it looked to me that she was just looking for a clarity, and she got it faster than she expected. Even tho she was completely free to ask for more. Well thats what was going inside of me about that part. Greeting from Lithuania!!
