The M6 is 232 miles long.
180 of those miles are utterly depressing until you get to Cumbria, then it’s beautiful.
Then you get to Scotland.
Climbing up on that wing took real balls, much respect to karl
The most appealing thing about the M6 is any one of the exits 👌
Junction 19
Eddie Izzard did a bit about how often Americans say awesome. When it’s over used it becomes meaningless.
He talked about how Americans say these hotdogs are awesome. And when they landed on the moon…
Houston: “how is it up there?”
Neil Armstrong: “it’s awesome”
Houston: “what like a hotdog?”
The M6 is like the UKs Route 66. Lined with beautiful KFC drive-throughs, a Starbucks every 8 metres, trucks transporting Lithuanian goat milk to Wigan and miles and miles of bland grey nothing. It really does sum up the whole experience of the UK.
57% of the people who drive on the M6 purposefully drive onto the opposite lanes and straight into a bollard to just end it all. It has the lowest survival rate of any stretch of road on earth and it's all down to spontaneous driver suicides.
Lol, the M6 is in no way comparable to Route 66. This is coming from a Brit.
I was on the M6 today. The Lake District is the probably the most interesting bit to drive through but still I agree, it's nothing comparable to Route 66. The rest of it is fairly boring in my opinion.
LOL
LOOOL
The m6 sums up the whole of the UK yeah? Try visit Scotland mate not so much of a shithole as England is
I think for most Brits the only reference point for an American beach is Baywatch!
No.. 🤦♂️
Nothing is appealing about the M6
You should travel the m25. 👵👍
Or route 66 giving the history of it
You’ve obviously never stopped at Keele services.🙂
I am a big fan of the m4
The best bit is where you get off it
This is the American version of this episode. In the original UK version Karl sings Van Halen's "Jump" on stage. You can find the clip on CZcams.
Is that not the moaning of life?
@@lawlini1979 no there is a scene of him singing from this episode
@@andrew348 i know. That's why I'm saying is the singing from the moaning of life and not this? 🤷♂️ Just asking for a friend.
@@lawlini1979 no, the other user just told you, it's from this episode
@@bradders9743 alright calm down. I didn't know if he'd made a mistake 😱
He’d rather sit on the wing of a plane as it does loops than a normal bungee jump? Karl’s logic. Don’t forget Karl covers a lot more of the US in the Moaning of Life, pencil that in your diary folks👍
In/on a plane, you will never feel that free falling acceleration knot in your stomach. I have vertigo, get really nauseous when looking down from a high place and would never do a bungee. Have parachuted out of an airplane though, where you have no feeling of falling, since the forward momentum of flying will gradually turn into downwards momentum and there is no eerie feeling of acceleration/falling, just floating. The worst bit was stepping out of an airplane into nothingness.
@@raifthemad that's dope! I have insane vertigo but trying to build the courage for a skydive, your comment helps.
Chimpanzee that! He's gone and written it down again! AHHH!
@@raifthemad You'd feel a bit after the apex of the backflip they do in the video haha
OMG Spencer you need to watch how quick you say “we’ve hugged before” lmao! I had to rewind 🤣🤣
I would have done the wing walk whilst dressed as Mr. Leather
You should watch when Karl sings jump by Van Halen in his thick Manc accent with the glee school it’s hilarious. The dance he does in here isn’t in the original broadcast
Watching you two with anything Karl related is by far the highlight of my day!!! Can’t wait for the next one ✌️ ❤️
You guys need to watch ‘Derek’. Features Karl and Ricky, written by Ricky.
The M6 goes all the way up the west side of the England, passing Wales and the Lake District (worth a visit) and will take you to Scotland (very worth visiting). It can be a traffic nightmare though in holiday season.
The good part of the M6 IMO is from J36 (Windermere/Lake District) to J40 (Penrith/northern Lake District/north Pennines).I always enjoy driving through the valley between the Shap fells and the Howgill fells, followed by the climb to Shap summit with a panorama of the eastern Lake District fells to the west and the northern Pennines to the east. The rest of it is a slog that has to be endured if you are doing a routine/functional journey, it is the headquarters of the centre lane ownership club and the join the motorway with free flowing traffic at a maximum speed of 40 mph society.
Found you off the Bob Mortimer videos and as a Brit I love seeing you react to our strange culture. The vibe with these videos is so good and welcoming, keep up the stuff
I highly recommend you take a look at the past videos Spencer & Daneil have done. I highly recommend their rugby stuff, as well as their dives into Brit comedy. 10/10 across the board
34:30 i can relate because of frequently doing archery and hitting the target with a traditional bow (with no gadgets to help either) knowing you did it all yourself is really satisfying. I like guns aswell but don’t get to use them often unfortunately in the UK
Your faces when he was on the wing.
Perfect.
"Do you like americans? No they get on me nerves"
If you know you know!
Billy Connolly visited the bottle farm when he did a show about route 66.
What’s exciting about the M6? Nothing! Unless you like being an hour late to your destination because of traffic.
I grew up a mile from the first part of the M6 - Junction 27. If I'm travelling home from the South, as soon as I get on the M6, I feel like I'm nearly home. Its quite scenic in places, especially north of Preston and on up to Scotland.
i live just off the M6, Lancaster. lovely grey clouds, oaps and students.
I'm that English I had to ffw through the cuddle party. Great work guys.
I live right near the M6 in Salford, Manchester.
❤️😂 brilliant fellas🤣I have to say that is the thing, I/we the brits (maybe) do think that there is a hugging commune at every stop off in America. But you boys straight away say that isn’t America😂👌🏽we are the same and so different all at the same time, I just like that you are embracing our weird and wonderful ways without castigation and with much love and laughter. Love it all boys keep it coming🫶🏽👌🏽🤘🏽❤️
i was looking forward to this one to see your guys take on it
Spencer talks about Glee clubs at high school, "....there were too many catty bitches around...." - and then there were the girls, right, Spencer? 👍🤣👍
You two should also bear in mind that Karl's just a typical Mancunian and they're prone to think that anything south of Birmingham is akin to being in the south of France and anything west of Blackpool is like being in California.
As someone who's lived most of his life in the northwest of England ( mostly in Greater Manchester and Lancashire ) as well as having spent several years in western Canada and in northern California I know through personal experience what I'm talking about. Most of what we glean about the U.S.A. and Canada here in the U.K. we get from our telly-boxes and when confronted with the realities of what it's like to be there by seeing such things as those that Karl's experiencing it comes as something of a surprise when we actually visit the U.S.A.
Funny, my life went from Nottingham to Quebec to Southern California. Globetrotters unit! 😂
I agree, @@solarwinds9363, and I've seen more of North America by Greyhound bus and train than I have of the U.K. because I've never been to Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland but have flown over all three of those countries. We real international jet-setters have to stick together, don't we? ✌😎✌🇬🇧🇨🇦🇺🇸
@@Phil_A_O_Fish 🇳🇱🇬🇧🇨🇦🇺🇲. I collected 1 more flag! 🤪
Watching this with you guys somehow makes this even better. Great work! 🇬🇧🇺🇸
I’m adamant Karl has some form of social anxiety. Not wanted to be hugged is exactly how I would be as I don’t like much contact.
Be absolutely buzzing waiting for this 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Been waiting for this 1 great show lads watched all your videos with Karl big fan keep up the good work 👍🏻
The best thing about the M6 is the toll road to bypass Birmingham. Haaaaaaa. First.
👍👍 love that ending!
The M6 is to be avoided at all costs, 2 lanes solid with slow moving lorries, with 1 lane left for the millions of cars......
When I was a kid you really could only get a coconut at the fair, we'd spend a fortune to win our once a year coconut, it was a whole event when we got it home to eat 🤣😁😁
Embrace the suck and Karl Pilkington and then the FA cup final. A perfect Saturday. Also Daniel saying I watched glee by accident once is the funniest thing I've heard this year 🤣🤣
The M6 is where happiness goes to die. I would drive it every Friday and then return every Monday. Did that for two years.
I'm from England.... you would definitely NOT be cuddling up to a stranger here ! 😂😂
Ha! Great reaction! Fun episode!
Daniel looked genuinely offended at the thought of Glee being used to represent his country. Could feel it through the screen haha xD
20:18 I get why some people choose not to wear shoes, but I’d have to agree. It has to be the right terrain for it, even in the UK there’s things like dog poo, seagull/pigeon poo, broken glass and all sorts of other horrible things I don’t want anywhere near my feet
25:45 "I have to return some videotypes" is always a good one.
40:16 *the Metal Gear Solid game over screen except Snake’s called Ronnie
As someone who regularly travels from the south coast to see my mum in the NW, I can confidently state that there is NOTHING appealing about the M6.
LOL‼️ I have never seen 2 men so uncomfortable watching people hugging ‼️🤣😂🤣😂 y'all are hilarious 😂
18:40 “the next day I’ll just go to a gun range and get it off” 😂😂
Lol love it, or doing the bench press, weights or something else masculine
Yeah it is weird, I’m usually adaptable with what people greet like, unless if it’s a bit weird. Depending on my mood I might even try to “outweird” them. I’ve just realised I’ve said that 3 times now lol
This episode of An Idiot Abroad taught me everything I know about the USA.
The M6 is literally a massive car park...most days
Ricky is genius with the setup! He gets him to agree to “one of the two..” sounding crestfallen tO Karl like he had found the loophole, until he couldn’t get out of the climatic ending (either one would have been Brilliant 😂).
Isn't the M6 much like I-95 in America? Route 66 is a secondary highway from before they had expressways. It's just a particularly long route numbered one.
Exactly
@@EmbraceTheSuck21 WOW! I didn't expected you guys to respond and so quick, too! Lol I'm still watching this react and I'm just up to the "cuddle party". I've seen these all before, here in America when it used to be on Netflix. I can't wait to see what you think about the rest of this episode! Lol I just found you guys and am going to check out your podcast, too!
The best thing about the M6 is that it takes you out of England and into Scotland ;-)
We have a route 66, it runs from Middlesbrough to Penrith.
18:04 "So, you're a shaker? Are you a hugger?"
"Ma'am, I'm a f____er."
I would've hugged and spooned with Valerie... "ahem"
Nothing is appealing whatsoever about the M6 lads. Endless Road works and traffic jams being the highlights tbh. Great reaction as always chaps!
They would be more interested in double or triple roundabouts and especially Americans driving through them... I'll never forget seeing an American driving through a triple roundabout and coming out on the wrong side of the road (I'm American btw).
@@andrew348 ha ha a terrifying moment no doubt!
I think I laughed too hard at Daniel's "gold digger" comment at the end there 😂
Great reaction 👍
Well us Brits being Brits, can’t say there’s anything really appealing about the M6 other than the knowledge that you’ll end up somewhere decent by going on it.
That’s certainly one thing American highways have over our motorways, your highways have character everywhere you stop on it, little towns full of hospitable old folks, our motorways, utilitarian featureless means of getting from A to a distant B and occasionally you’ll see something interesting in the distance, or drive over a cool bridge, like the M6 as an example has a gigantic bridge over the Shipping Canal between Warrington and Manchester. Or the M5 with its Severn River Crossing over to Wales, or the Queen Elizabeth Bridge on the M25 (although more often than not, it’s rammed with heavy traffic).
Whats special about the M6 Preston bypass Is, I live right next to it haha.
I'm gonna search for that Amish Outlaws band after this vid...
I’m glad you found the wing walk as funny as I did. I laughed so hard at that I couldn’t breathe. Absolutely hilarious. I thought I’d he mental, I’d rather dance with the boys. 😂😂😂😂😂
He just never stops!!😂😂😂😂😂whinge, whinge, whinge,😂😂😂
Fun not in Karl’s vocabulary!🤣🤣🤣
I just about figured out they were singing The Police - Everything She Does is Magic. OMG. It was like finger nails on a chalkboard. Lol.
I'm not a huge fan of season 3, would definitely watch you guys though. But you also definitely want to do The Moaning of Life, it's very similar but he travels to see how different cultures deal with major life events like death, marriage etc
snakes are cold blooded and typically not out at night. I'd be more worried about the scorpions in the desert region at night
Monster Trucks was huge in The UK mid early 90s it found its way over here from the rise of the Trucks in the 80s... though you still get Monster Jam etc we are more of Tribalism hoilgistic passionate nation... its all the same animalistic barbaric traits of human nature when you branch it down just expressed differently.
Karl on the monster truck then plane. Omg, lmfao 🤣
Lol at your faces during the cuddle party you guys look really tense now I see what the man was on about in the 10 things not to do in the USA video lol
M6 is around 200 mile lol, main route north to south, is for me anyway cuz I live right near it
Forget Stonehenge and Buckingham Palace. Every American needs to visit the M6 Preston bypass. Book early to avoid disappointment.
14:50 “There are so many catty b*t hes in theatre” oh god tell me about it drama in my last year of high school was an absolute hostage situation. We were spit into 2 groups and I was in the one that was like a prison camp, meanwhile there’s the group over there that I wanted to be in that was like a holiday camp!
The m6 is good because you avoid Preston.
Getting off the M6 is the only appealing aspect of that road.
we used to mock trailerboys/gypsies for living in caravans ,but the rising house prices and council tax/property tax ,i think its gonna be a trend now for all young people to become a generation of nomads
Been thinking about this myself
The a1 is our route 66 in my opinion
37:11 this is what’s unique, interesting and cool about the US, is you can travel to another state and it’s like being in a totally different country 😂😂
Poor karl, as you guys have said since the start haha
Brilliant!
Absolutely loved this reaction.
Have you guys ever been to the UK ?
The M6 Motorway = absolute misery gents
The craziest thing is that he'll never do the bungie jump, but would do that on a plane!
M6 high point - it gets you away from Birmingham
M6 low point - it takes you to Birmingham
Nothing is appealing about the M6 other than the shambolic driving you'll witness
imo they should have found a old Vanagon convertible, dealing with keeping it running, pulling down a dirt road and sleeping in it. all things that would make the experience.
43:40 you have to give it to the Amish, whatever you think about them at least they’re living off their own resources and land. Basically homesteading. In an age of corporate/government/control, food/medical supply control and digital tyranny, that has to be respected. Same with other similar groups across the world too.
The best thing about the M6 is it's the fastest route out of England and back to Scotland. Sorry, just had to say that 🤣
The m6 takes you from England to Scotland
Guess it's true, American's don't get British sarcasm. He was saying no one gets excited about driving along it
the most appealing thing about the m6 is getting off it
This was THE ONE. The last scene
As a Brit I can confirm there is nothing interesting about the M6. As Karl says, it’s just a road 🤣
The UKs answer to Route 66 is the NC500 and actually people do come from all over the world to drive it. Its on the north coast of Scotland and 500 miles of some of the best driving roads in the world. You should react to Jeremy Clarkson and gang reviewing it on the Grand Tour season 3 episode 7 "A Well Aged Scotch".
You had us at "Best Driving Roads In The World"
Aye aye the guys love the glee👌
Karl pilkington moaning of life is good to
We call cars like that, pencil sharpeners.
Why I do watch other people watching TV ? O yea Gogglebox 😂
I laughed so hard when Karl did his wing walk I reached a point where I felt, no that's not good, too much
some people have given up the money chase and property and lived in a hut in the woods ,closest thingto an amish conversion
Carl finally does something to be proud of 👏👏👏
Desperate Dan was from comic book uk
I still all these years later can't believe he done that plane stunt I would have done any of all of the bungee jumps combined over that
