When I was a kid the jar used to say "spread thinly", mostly because the saltiness made your lips blister. Marmite is something of an acquired taste, much like Guinness. People decide early on that you either love it or you hate it, and they stick with that. Me, I love both. I use Marmite in cooking, it also works with peanut butter or cream cheese on toast or bagels. But if you've decided you don't like it, you'll probably stay that way. All the more for the rest of us.

There's a great Marmite divide in my family 😂 My mom, 1 sister, 1 brother and myself adore it, while my dad and other brother and sister can't stand it. I used to make my mom breakfast in bed of a cup of coffee and Marmite on toast every mother's day from age 6 (with help) and I always spread it like jam. My mom struggled to eat half a slice and said she couldn't eat the rest as she doesn't usually eat first thing in the morning. Made it the same way for myself for the first time as a teenager and dry heaved 😂 Less is definitely more, although I like it thicker now lol. Mom said she never told me the truth until I was a teenager because she loved that I made her favourite breakfast 🥰

Got to agree with the comments below, you've got to spread it thin. Also do you have crumpets in the states? Nothing like marmite and butter on crumpets

It literally hurts my eyes when I watch Americans use Marmite like this. 😢😢. You really don’t know what you’re missing when you get it right a tiny bit added to French onion soup, A tiny bit added to gravy or anything savoury. On a hot buttered crumpet. Yum.

Too much is a bit overpowering, thin layer is fine.
I'd say there was a little too much there for first time Marmite tryers, a little goes a long way.
But I like Marmite so I'd laugh just to eat it ☺️ it's very good for you

The best way to eat Marmite is to put a small amount on a knife. Then throw the jar in the bin, wash the Marmite off the knife and have something nice instead!!!!

Oh my god, that's not spreading it thin. You should be able to see the butter, through the marmite, after spreading it. I nearly fell off my chair when I saw how you put it on your toast. A definite way to put off anyone eating marmite for the first time. 😁

The look on your faces was brilliant! This is a perfect example of what Marmite is all about. Love it or Hate it and no middle ground! I'm with Spencer on this one! To spread the vile stuff you get it as thin as physically possible on dry toast then scrape it back off again. Looks like the jar is going home with Daniel!
