I am very glad that Steam is making this at least somewhat end-user friendly, instead of doing what companies like Apple do where everything is closely controlled and you cant do anything to change any part of the hardware.
But then again Valve seems to understand that being hands-off and making the end-user experience as simple and open-ended as possible is always a winning move.

So one thing I've found that's a bit of an issue with 3rd party controllers (Xbox in my case specifically) is that sometimes software changes require a firmware update on the Xbox controller. I ran into this recently when I noticed one of my Xbox controllers had significant input lag when connected to the Steam Deck) I do not own an actual Xbox, nor do I have a Windows PC myself. I was fortunately able to get a friend to upgrade the firmware on my controller via their Windows computer.
Do you know of a way to upgrade the firmware on an Xbox controller via the Steam Deck, or via a PC that isn't running Windows? Conversely, is this an issue you've come across with the PS Dual Sense controllers? Can you upgrade their firmware without a Windows PC or PS5 if it needs be?

The things I love most about the deck are #1 the community support which ties in to #2 and #2 that I can play anything on it. If I can’t play it though Linux/steam os then I can play it on windows. If I absolutely have to I can play on monitor and mouse and key but most games I can play on the dual shock 4 from ps4 and if I can’t I can map controls to the deck itself considering it has 4 extra paddles it can handle almost every game. The only exceptions being things like dayz. And if I don’t feel like mapping my own complete controller set up there’s community layouts I can use. Merging from a long time console user to a pc user(I’ve done web and graphic design a few years ago) to steamdeck after everything has changed so much it has been so smooth. Steamdeck is my #1 even over the ROG right know because of the community. I can’t wait for the second one. I like my original enough I bought my gf one

Also my brother has a custom built pc from friends throwing him parts and him buying them. They came out to about the same price but I didn’t have to build mine. They have almost the exact same performance and if I ever have a problem it’s like working on my car. There is either a CZcams video a Reddit thread or in the comments of one or the other there’s the answer to my problem because the community is awesome and somebody has dealt with it before

@@milescarter7803 WinSCP is pretty straight forward. on deck in konsole. type "sudo sysemctl --now sshd" then on winSCP just type in steamdeck for host name, user is deck, and password is what ever you have your root password too. just make sure you disable the sshd when done or anyone on the current network you are connected to could potentially get access to the deck. to disable "sudo systemctl disable --now sshd" to disable it. it also helps if you are a dock with a lan input otherwise it has to be done over wifi which is general much slower. i dont have a doc but was seeing decent speeds over wifi.

@@MoeFokah also should be able to load up a shared folder on your pc with the music and i know for a fact some media player should be able to find it from your local network. i dont see a reason why it wouldn't. the deck is nothing more then a linux based OS. so anything you can do on linux which is everything you can do on pc. you can even get windows programs that are not games to work on steam deck. just download what you want exe file in desktop mode. then open steam in desktop mode like you would pc. and add the EXE to steam and go to the EXE's game property's then change to proton experimental and you should be able to install and run said program in the exact same way.

What i cant wait for is a 3rd party bezel-free OLED 1200p screen.
Sure many games struggle at the native 800p40, but many games i play can run at 1440p60+ on an external monitor.
If you've experienced an OLED, you may have noticed that most OLEDs handle resolution scaling quite well, i've got this pair of OLED AR goggles, they project a large 16:9 1080p screen when plugged into the steamdeck, and you'd be hard pressed to see scaling artifacts if you drop it down to 800p or 720p, yes its lower resolution, but unlike most LCDs there isnt a significant quality loss because you're not running at native

Number 1 tip: put windows 11 on it. Number 2 tip: put windows 11 on it. Number 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10: “”
I was using steamos the first month I had this amazing steam deck. Although it’s good for most games. But if you want demanding games like ms flight sim and dcs world to run much smoother with higher fps etc I recommend to install windows 11 either on microsd or dual boot on a 1 tb+ SSD. I have mine on a microsd card and it’s already very fast. Windows 11 is also much more touch friendly with gestures than steamos. You don’t have to mess with proton and waste time into research how to make a game run only to find out it doesn’t run as you want it.
Therefore my tip: get yourself a nice 1 tb ssd or 1 tb microsd and install windows 11 on it. You can still switch back to steamos very easily.

Nifty lil gadget, but quick gripes: -Wish it had a feature to "unhide" my hidden games. Hid some games and now I can't get em to show again in the library.
-The bios should've been automated to run a script and automatically install steam to a fresh sdd once that's detected instead of needing a mem stick/hub, etc.
-Launchers: between epic, gog, rockstar, etc it's a pain at times. Not Valve's fault, but yea.
-Also, I consecutively listen to game audio and phone music on the same headset, but with constant stutters n static. Anyone else getting this?
    Thanks, garden man!
