I'd suggest using adjectives instead of numbers for levels. It feels way better if a pop-up says "you are now respectable or you are now famous" than "you are now level 7." Qualitative descriptions give better medieval vibes.
I agree, they can even do both "You are now famous (lv. 7)"
Like how Renown/Prestige works
@@ShiningLight Agreed. Both would work better I think. Flavor-wise a title is nice, but mechanically it may be hard to keep track of all the names. Would be nice to know what each title stands for instead of having to check the wiki.
Agreed. I don't want to admit how much time I spend just reading Paradox flavor text on buildings and the like.
Clearly you haven't heard of Louix IX or Richard III. (just kidding by the way - I agree with you).
I am really really excited for most of the features of this DLC, but the whole culture rework is what I am most looking forward to, I can't wait for regions to have slightly more variety due to the traditions of different cultures!
First thing I'm gonna do, is create a Scots-Irish culture for my Scots-Irish kingdom!

Same, can wait to make russian orthodoxy. Or polish catholicism, I love my winged hussars campaign.
Would be nice if they change the army templates though, if the bulk of my army is cavalry, why do they look like poor peasant? If we are suppose to be granduer in this update will the army templates change?
@@Roy_787 How about "Feck-Off English"?
CK3 is one of those rare games where every single little feature and design, appears to have been deeply thought about, not just in itself but how it interacts with other features, i continue to be impressed with it and i'm really excited for this next expansion. Looks awesome guys.
Entirely different from CK2. I love CK2 to death and it has a MASSIVE amount of content. But most of the content is extremely shallow. Good to see they decided to go for depth over breadth
Ck2 was amazing for its time, reapers due, monk and mystics and holy fury all were 10/10 when each respective dlc came out imo. Ck3 dlc raises the bar even higher
"CK3 is one of those rare games where every single little feature and design, appears to have been deeply thought about"
Yes, this includes how they break them up to be more profitable; none the less I do enjoy the game, I just hope things don't get too expensive.
Ever went on a crusade in the game?
Did you ever played Crusader Kings II?
No mention of the CoAs designer which has me excited! Something so simple but I can finally give my dynasty the coat of arms it deserves!
Right, it bugs me to not have the actual polish CoA with red, it is like this off pinkish color.
Or the twin headed bird of russia, with the tsar orb and septer.
@@Robert53area try European CoA mod it works great in the meantime
I love how much attention a medieval game is finally showing how diverse and culturally unique the medieval ages were
I would like a much less simplistic view of titles. Kingdoms and duchies and baronies were, well, not like this at all. De jure title does not really fit.
Not the first game who does this
Culture formation? This needs to be in every Paradox game from now on. It truly transforms the game from a map painter to an alt-history creation. Just gives so much grounding to the timeline in terms of "this is how people live, this is what society is like in this alternative history." Imperator especially would benefit, considering how far back and abstract the history is.
Exactly! That´s why (in my opinion) Stellaris is their best title so far. The amount of player agency it has in customizing your empire creates far more replayability than "I play through WW 2 as 300 different countries"
I can't wait to see how great this game would be 5 years from now.
Exactly. Base CK III is okay, but it's lacking so many features compared ck2 and all its expansions. it will take years to come close to that.
At least we have enough time to sell off our possessions so that we can afford all the dlcs
be saying the same thing 5 years from now
Im still waiting to buy it untill a couple expos in. I didnt get ck II until like 7 expansions had come out
That is it, in 5 years I will buy the game plus the dlcs available with a good discount. Until then, CK2 🎮
This is the right direction for the CK-games. Unlike EU or HOI, CK has always been about role playing individuals over a period of time for me. This DLC really takes the role playing aspect of CK3 to a whole other level. Correct move and I hope there is more to come :)!
This expansion is so much more valuable than any expansion paradox has ever made. Not only does it add tons of flavor across the world, it allows you to create your own flavor and insert your own dna into your game. This will be a revolutionary expansion.
Calm down and dont preorder
Nathan, are you saying that this dlc requires me to juju inside my pc?
You must be new around here to be praising it like this
lmao this reads like a sponsored comment. I hope my local artist gives me the Ark of the Covenant instead of a portrait of my family. I'll just have to sponsor him and see.
@nathan smith Andward is my father in law so, just a family favor. I’ve played it thought, it’s garbage.
Rains of Castamere and this dlc will be a perfect duo
Great idea for an event. Triggered after killing a rival that’s a powerful vassal, pay 200 gold to get an ode that gives +5 to vassal opinion, +1 to intrigue and a -5 opinion penalty for ambitious vassals
@@remainprofane7732 Agreed and if they can purchase the copyright I would like to hear Rains of Castamere play when you kill a powerful vassal like that beautiful song when you declare holy war

this was supposed to come out 5 months ago and honestly 100% genuinely i'm so glad because it looks so awesome.
I'm not complaining. All this 3D artwork plus massive number of events for the artifacts, court and cultures. I hope they keep adding more even after release.
You realize there was a GLOBAL pandemic going on for most of this work right?! It has slowed down a LOT of things, we need to get over it and do what needs to be done to get the world back to normal!
I also don't remember hearing them say anything about an exact date when this was still early in the development process, maybe it came later, I don't know as I was out of the CK loop for awhile playing other games!
@@JacksonOwex yeah. i'm saying it's a good things. workers being exploited and having their workflow disrupted to make products faster is The Norm under games industry policy. Paradox is doing a GOOD thing by not doing that. that's why i said, "i'm glad."
even if it wasn't for the sake of a product that wasn't finished. delaying release is good. it means easier jobs for workers, and better products. doy.
@@JacksonOwex !!?!??!!
I'm hoping this makes for a higher quality and polished DLC!
I'm pretty excited about the new culture mechanics. In CKII, all one received were special events that triggered a character in a certain region to switch cultures. Now the culture switch will happen more naturally.
I just hope that it doesn't become wildly historically inaccurate, I don't mind some crazy things to happen, but if left unchecked, I can see this become insanely unrecognizable and confusing, but I assume that's why it's being released by next year, to iron out all the kinks that could happen.
Thought a High Almoner's job was to manage almonds
Yeah, free almonds for the poor!!
It would be cool, if they reworked "the revoke title" action into a "trade titles" function. Sometimes it would be much better if you could use other titles of your own to convince vassals of you to part with their titles. This is helpful when you trade titles that are otherwise under the goverment of an unrightful liege or when you want to consolidate counties that are under your main title but were scattered over time without completely alienating your vassals. Especially when you are stuck and can't raise your authority for x amounts of years for some particular reason.
Prisoners should also be revalued. I think it should be worth a hook having a prisoner or heir (maybe the last living one from the family) that you could execute at any particular time.
Yes please, sometimes someone grab a holding i really want somehow, but instead of accepting a kingdom worth of titles i have to war them/revoke it to get ahold of it. Of course it needs to make some sense. Like you can't expect someone holding byzantium to give it to you for an undeveloped steppe holding, but what about 2? What about 30? I'd invade a kingdom and give it all to one vassal if it means i get one of the greatest regions in the world.
I wholeheartedly agree with this comment, especially the last paragraph. I always find it incredibly stupid when I capture my enemy's successor or even the king himself and this doesn't give me any leverage whatsoever in the war. Absolutely unrealistic.
The "negotiate release" action should also not only be a negotiation with the prisoner himself, but also with his family and especially his liege, and there should be the options:
-"white peace" and
-"enforce demands"
when negotiating about the release of a prisoner with whose liege you are at war with. The closer the person is to the leader, the more likely he is to agree.
OR, alternatively, capturing people close to the enemy leader could count towards your war score.
Also, there should always be a "gain weak hook on liege"-option when negotiating about some prisoner's release. I'm not interested in gaining a favor from the second-born son of some ruler, I want a favor from the ruler himself! And I'm sure a king would be willing to grant me a small favor if I threaten to execute his son, now wouldn't he?
Oh, and it doesn't make sense that the "blind" and "castrate" options automatically release the prisoner. Why would they do that? Furthermore, humiliating punishments (castrating male members of a house, blinding females or making them your concubine, torturing someone from a house) should lower the liege's prestige and/or the dynasty's reknown. This way, those punishments would finally serve a real purpose other than just being cruel. In general, it really doesn't make sense that "castrate" and "blind" are only available to the Byzantine and Ethiopian culture groups - as if other cultures didn't practice mutilating punishments. As macabre as this sounds, but this would really add some additional depth to the game, using cruelty specifically to humiliate your enemies .
@@gayusschwulius8490 The enforce peace/white peace is already in the game. Certain individuals (heirs, family members) count for war score which determines the acceptance of this. If their capture contributed to the necessary value, they are released upon peace.
The favour on liege mechanic may be nice but I can see it being hard to prevent some abuses with.
Blind/castrate comes from the fact that specifically in the byzantine empire, people were prohibited from rule if they were not physically perfect, while in other countries this wasn't always the case. It has also been historically a way to take potential contenders for the throne out of the equation there, and hence it has been introducd in those areas.
@@gayusschwulius8490 gain weak hook on the liege or head of family is a great idea.
OH and it would also be great if you get reason to war or parle or give them an ultimatum or something if a close family member is imprisoned by a foreign power. You get the notification when it happens but then what?
While trading titles makes sense from a gameplay perspective, you gotta look at it from a roleplay one. You ask a vassal who has a certain land where he lived (and built?) and switch around for no reason other than you wanting it. I'm sure you could tie this to friends/opinion/etc, but unless there's a mechanic shift of where vassals are more administrators rather than "independant" people (which is what vassals are), it doesn't make much sense for them to accept such actions. You can already do so but it is (logically) seen as tyranical as you are removing their freedom as a vassal.
Gotta remember the game is intended to be far more roleplay dependant rather than a EU4 style thing, though granted it still needs a few more events to make that viable, apparently this expansion will help with that.
I'm so freaking excited for this DLC but my one major hope is that we can create new languages too. If a culture diverges from Greek and then invades Iberia and rules over Andalusians and creates a hybrid culture, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense for that new culture to still speak the exact same Greek that is spoken in the Byzantine Empire centuries later. Interested to see how that plays out.
I imagine there might be a court language and local language thing as well. Since French is a good example of that.
Language isn't modeled in the game though.
@@Carnefice there will be when royal court drops
One cool thing would be when in battle if you fight another lord and win you could take their crown or sword, and display it in your court, and it takes those items from that lord so they no longer can be seen with those items on his character screen.
Also that could be a casus belli, to recover your stolen items, or even launch a war for someone else's items or ones they stole from your character or dynasty.
Ngl, that'd be pretty amazing. Seems highly likely (Though I can't point any cases out in particular) that this probably happened in History to some degree. Even if it didn't It makes complete sense. That and I can completely imagine some self-important ruler needlessly throwing his subjects against a superior war-machine because "I want my sword back" kind of thing.
@@Sabamonster "That and I can completely imagine some self-important ruler needlessly throwing his subjects against a superior war-machine because "I want my sword back" kind of thing."
Well of course I know him, he's me.
@@DovahKanye Lmao, aside from that I mean. (Cause I'd absolutely do it in CK3 too, lol) I'm just saying that I can absolutely envision some god-complex riddled Emperor in Ancient times throwing bodies at a vastly superior force both personnel wise and strategically, simply because they wanted their expensive trinket back. God knows they've done equally senseless and barbaric shit in the past. Lol
i truly hope paradox keeps this style of expansions. Give us big new mechanics with lots of options, if it takes them a year to make it than so be it during that year they could still bombard us with 2 flavour packs for certain kingdoms. But hey I'm not the marketing team at paradox just a fan voicing is love for this game.
I wonder if there's any changes to the map display, like if you have high enough development, cities started to sprawl and plains turned into farmlands, higher trade means more ship traffic in the ocean nearby, etc. That could be cool.
That's really lacking right now
Would be huge
Paradox is one of the few companies starting to realize the number one priority for Video Games for the long term isn't profitability but how good it is, because profitability will come afterwards. Going the Nintendo route.
Honestly thats the smartest way to retain customers. Create high quality products and expansions that keep players coming back. You will make more money in the long haul over time where as low quality games won't.
They are *very* focused on profitability. Listen to the last couple of episodes of series 1 of the Paradox Podcast and they are completely open about it. And their profit margins are insane (about 50% gross profit).
@@linmanfu913 Thats because they know if they make a good product it will become profitable?
now all they need to go full on Nintendo is to take down mods and sue fans
Literally quite the opposite, any paradox game is dog shit unless you want to spend half of your life's savings on all of the dlcs, I can't renember the last time paradox released a major update rather than just making it into another dlc

This sounds amazing, I’m so excited. The totally static nature of cultures in CKII, with the existence of a few very fleshed out and powerful ones while the rest are identical was always disappointing
This is the expansion I was waiting to help with the replayability.
I would love to be able to see cities and towns and great works in 3d in some other DLC's.
3d is not a paradox thing. I love their games so I don't really really care about it but...
I am in love with paradox games. From stellaris to this.
i used to be, but a lot of their recent work... leaves a lot to be desired.
Imperator comes to mind.
or the recent eu4 xpac...
@@SuperExodian Or Stellaris. The Aquatics pack is, once again, lots of fancy artwork with a completely joke of coding quality behind it.
Essentially, they keep moving the key competent game designers around from older to newer projects. Stellaris' developement took a sharp downturn when Wiz was moved to the, then-secret, Victoria III team.
CKIII is looking solid for now. The focus on creating dynamic systems instead of heaping statically coded flavors was visible both with religions, and now with cultures. It's a cornerstone of good design.
@@Alblaka you can't be innovative without risks. I liked the EU origins pack. I did skip out on stellaris aquatics pack. My first paradox game was crusader kings 2. Everyone I introduced to that game was hooked on it. I think as long as they focus on CK3 and focus on adding more and more RPG elements they cannot go wrong.
@@Alblaka ck3 and vicky 3 are their favorite children now, doubt any more game changing expansions will come to Stellaris
Assassination events in court would be a dope thing. Doesn't even need to be interactive. i.e. old total war games had some super cool clips for assassination.
The throne room is a great way to leverage the 3D models. I'd like to see things pushed even further (more animations to depict various in-game events, etc.), but this is an excellent start.
You had me at “Skull of a particularly fierce rabbit”.
Imagine if they added like an option to have more guards on your court so it would increase dread and chance of arrest
I hope the pet exotic creatures like the bear from the cinematic trailer is an option. If not it would be cool to have something like that down the line
Can't wait for the game to get an 18+ rating when I look at my court with a religion with Carnal Exaltation, Polyamory, and Divine Marriage lol. Jokes aside, this looks great and kinda just what I was hoping for.

Skull of a particularily fierce rabbit of Caerbannog
I like how this feels like a proper expansion and not like a feature that should be free with the game. Looking forward to the culture changes and building a royal court worthy of a grand kingdom.
Yeah, paradox games (EU 4) are for the most part a money pit, (for me anyway) you buy the base game and then end up spending at least 2 to 4 times the base game for stuff that mostly should be in base game to begin with-not always, some of the dlc in stellaris,Hoi4 is worth the money…. Hoping this one falls into that category
Love how close this feels to the MEIOU and Taxes Court spending.

I was literally just thinking today as I was playing that I wish I could merge these two cultures because there’s things I like about both of them so to see this now is amazing. I’m too psyched for this
This looks great!! I never expect being able to see my own court ingame, I wish they also do something like that with the battles. Being able to see at least 1/1000 of the warriors engaging into battle and playing the different tactics would be awesome, even if it's just like 5 swordsmen fighting another 5.
Also a whole "battle redesign" dlc would be nice, the military aspect was the only thing I always felt lacking in the series and, if improved, could make the perfect strategy game

That DLC is looking quite interesting, adds a lot new stuff. Looking forward to play it.
I hope they keep the artifact features similar to CK2 in term that several ruler will have specific artifact in their possession such as the ark or covenant or to have the spear of Longinus you have to go on a crusade and on a lucky day. That will encourage people to go out hunting for them rather than sitting there and fund projects hoping to get something rare.
Go on a crusade? Paradox doesn't care about crusades anymore.
Really hoping for a return of your opinion of others to the game. Really helped replayability, making choices based on your characters opinions rather than just always picking the best numerical outcome.
Maybe you already know this, but the mod 'In My Humble Opinion' does this. But, yeah, I agree, I really like it for roleplaying.
@@mrsqrrl I did not know that, thank you for letting me know. I'll have to go find it.

Court Jesters were actually a genuine attractive occupation. They usually got really wealthy, they could banter and make fun of the royalty (they were expected to), and usually they were the only one that could get away with it. Sometimes they could be so influential that a giving monarch used them for advice, as they for once could, get an honest response.
I know that the only rulers able to have a court are kings and emperors to limit the courts. Could it be possible to add the most powerful vassal as in 1 duke per kingdom? Almost like Bohemia and the HRE would both have a court in the same realm? It would still limit the number of courts but give a competitive aspect. You could try and outshining your liege, vying for their throne or creating a rivalry because of it. Just a thought

If this is even remotely as cool as it sounds it will be the best expansion ever made in any Paradox game. Also the speech at the end of the vid gave mer serious 'red wedding' feelings, I hope it will be possible to do something like that to your enemies in game.

What about us who barely ever make it beyond duke😂,can we at least get a small office in the kings broom closet?
you get to show up at court and interact if you play as a vassal.
That’s what I’ll do,ask for a corner office
Dukes should have a court too. Historically many times dukes were as prestigous as kings. The duke of burgundy for example.
I really like the "background" of his house/office
I just hope they have more music coming with this expansion. Atleast region based music highlighting different cultures.
That's definitely important and would help immersion!

Hype as hell for the return of artifacts, but also looking forward to being able to make my own cultures.
I hope there will be more emphasis on combat kind of things. Currently there are mods that have battle events and such. But they should maybe allow your character to be able to fight as a knight even if you aren't the commander if you're the ruler or even some vassal
I hope this will become a new benchmark for Paradox DLCs.
I think ''Custom Culture'' is a great idea! Really liked that and always wanted a thing like this since the second game.
Looks great, gives a whole bunch more to do in ck3. I am most excited for the new culture rework though.
This dlc sounds really good and even better it's coming out on my birthday thanks paradox you will make that day a great day
Super excited for this. Love the idea of the artefacts.
Really excited about that culture rework. Prior system wasn't player friendly at all. One game I started Norse, became emperor of Britannia, then pushed into France. The game made me diverge from Norse prior to my conquest of Normandy and screwed up my whole culture progression. I later found out through many google searches that if you conquer Normandy, you can become Norman, then conquer Britain and be English. Felt super cheated and wanted to restart and do it right but ended up just taking a break from the game cause it takes so long to do that stuff. It's dumb that the game railroaded you into evolving culture only the way it happened historically. Huge improvement.
Great stuff, can't wait for the Royal Court.
This all sounds great! Take all the time you need to provide a great experience and a bug free launch.
So close yet so far 😭😭😭😭
Two things I would like to see is the ability to reform ancient cultures like the Britons if you manage to bring together the Brythonic cultures under one kingdom, as well as the conflicting duties and loyalties that vassals can have to their lords. If a duke declares war on their king, will all their counts follow them, and also how lords in border regions might have different lords clamping them as their direct vassal, things like that.
My god I can’t wait ! This looks amazing!
