    I like the extra events from Friends and Foes but the feud mechanism needs tweaking. I'm sick of people starting feuds with me because some random member of my House did something stupid.

      @TheLoopedSquare That's fair! I wish I could get rid of the ones where someone on the other side of the map starts a feud for no apparent reason though. At present I'm in endgame Castille having brought an end to the Iberian Struggle via detente, and some duke in Finland who I've never met keeps trying to murder me.

    So I don’t tend to play outside of the regional flavor packs very often. When I do it all starts to feel very samey. Which means I stick to the Norse or Iberia the most (or do both and go on a Varangian adventure into Iberia)! It is way more fun to play a Norse invader of India or Africa or Mongolia, than it is to just play in those regions without regional packs. So while I agree FoI is the best content wise, the Norse gets more mileage for me and I find it way more fun because I can be Norse anywhere on the map if I so choose! Whereas FoI means I have to stay in Iberia.
    So I would argue that actually I prefer getting the two flavour packs first. That makes two packs for the price of less than 1 expansion pack (I don’t have the numbers on me, so guesstimating from memory).
    Meanwhile, while Tours and Tournaments adds a lot-it is also A LOT. I found it overwhelming to learn at first. Once I got it, I got it and it became a lot of fun. But I really didn’t like it at first. The UI was also very clunky to learn. Also it adds a lot of deaths. I could see this pack being overwhelming for a beginner.
    Royal Courts is very streamlined and adds the one mechanic I can’t play without-cultural hybridisation. I agree it is not worth the price tag, but if there was a sale, like there is now, I would recommend a beginner to get that *now* while it is cheap-because it has such essential mechanics and might as well get it with a price tag that it is actually worth. You can then get Tours and Tournaments when you are comfortable with the game and getting bored-either at full price or by the time the next sale comes around.
    I know my suggestions are are counter intuitive-but sometimes you have to look beyond “most content” and think about what mechanics do people play with the most or can’t live without. And let’s not forget that the Norse, according to stats, are the most played culture in the game-in part because those mechanics are the most fun.
    Also the struggle mechanic is a base game update. So while Iberia might not be in a struggle without the DLC, the mods that add struggles to a region do function without the DLC.

      Ah yeah I meant to make it obvious that the struggle mechanic is base game! I do like that part from paradox so mods can use it etc

    I know I'm late but my rankings are
    S: T&T
    A: NL - FoI
    B: RC - W&W
    C: F&F
    I loved when came out northern lords, big Viking player when it came out. T&T is such an amazing dlc is so much better than RC. I'm glad they did the mods and achievements.

    Great video, I’d personally but FoI down a bit as yeah it’s good but it’s just Iberia so any other playthrough is gonna be practically unaffected. Really enjoyed though

    s:T&T For obvious reasons, It's what made CK3 truly unique, and solved one of the major issues that the game had, with late game boredom.
    A: FoI and NL: Struggles are a great system that's held back the the frankly awful ending system, which paradox has still yet to fully fix, Outside of that though it's a wonderful flavor pack for the region and forces a unique playstyle onto the player, as well a preventing the once all too common Muslim Iberian Conquest of France by 1000. Northern lords is Necessary if you're going to play as the Nordic nations, it's only flaw is that is came so early, meaning it lacks the same depth that later region focused DLCs have had/are going to have.
    B: RC, the RC itself is what I dislike, it's implementation feels boring and like a chore, But the other features I find myself engaging with a lot, I really like the culture system, hence why it's so high
    C: WAW, I really do not care for more annoying events, and the hostage system is god awful, but the Regency feels well implemented and does not feel like a chore, but the sum of your mistakes (most of the time) The Education overhaul is fine as well though, so it gets a solid C.
    D: FoF, I really do not like this one, outside the few actually fun events it does nothing for me, and I barley engage with its mechanics on a normal playthrough, hell, the penalty for actually using the new rival and feud system is so bad the game practically encourages you to not engage in the first place.

    Thanks for these reviews. So far I just have Northern Lords. I am interested to know if you think the DLCs make the game too easy? Wards and Wardens looks good but sometimes it's fun having a kid with not so great skills and trying to make the best of ruling in a different way with them or finding some way to bypass them. I think I'd find it boring without these awkward moments.

    • @Malforian
      @Malforian  Před 18 dny

      I don't think too easy but if you do lean into a more min/max style it's definitely easier to do that now. Rolling with bad situations is how I enjoy the game

    Northern lords is so good this shouldn't be about price but about the content

    • @Malforian
      @Malforian  Před 10 měsíci +1

      I think due to that one getting a price increase it is worth talking about it, for the old price it was 100% worth

    You forgot to mention the feud system which was included the friends and foes DLC which is horribly. Not only if they murder your whole family, but also because you on your own can´t start feuds, unless you get the event and often not when you want it. Friend and Foes is not any good!

    • @Malforian
      @Malforian  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Not being able to fully end house feuds is the worst

      If you can only buy one, get tours and tournaments. New DLC is out in 3 weeks so rest will probably go on sale then

    Northern lords is probably my most disliked DLC. They make the Norse way overpowered C
    Royal court also added custom coat of arms which is the best thing ever. I put royal court at A because of the free update.
    Fate of Iberia A purely cause it fixed 867 muslim iberia from conquering the whole of europe cause france also stupidly splits up
    Friends and Foes are a C because family rivalries are op ive had whole families die because i decided to cancel a grand wedding.
    Tours is a S indeed
    Outfits from paradox i give a A. They are way better designed then the mods. And the mods add other things like changing some family coat of arms that i dislike, Ethnicities and portraits is sort of the best mod for outfits but some of them can feel a bit off like a bit shorter then they should be.
