  • I'm not sure why... but a while back I attempted to walk 100,000 steps in a single day. That's more than the length of a marathon and I mostly did it indoors... here is the story of what this challenge did to my body.

This is the fine line. He was smart enough to know that this was a fool’s errand, he was smart enough to have stuff prepared, and smart enough to estimate what amount of steps he’d need to take in order to get that goal. But he was dumb enough to go through with it, despite all the obstacles he KNEW would be there, and how difficult it would be. That could be perceived as stupid, I suppose, but I’d argue it’s being committed to the bit. While objectively, it is stupid, subjectively? That’s stupid in his eyes. Just don’t be stupid yourself, and try to attempt this. Not without a couple months, maybe even a year of training, the proper equipment, and medical supplies, and know when you need to tap out.

The average person walks 10,000 steps in a day. That's only 10 days to get to 100,000.
Even if you cut that in half and only walked 5,000 in a day, that would still only take 20 days, say 3 weeks to do that.
I remember walking from my college back home (whenever my bike had a flat tire) and that was 8 miles, took about 3 hours and we'd usually grab lunch midway.

Which didn’t seem to be too far away… we thought it would take maybe 2 hours to and back. The bridge was 12 miles away. We were on the water for 9 hours. It was almost dark by the time we fought the current all the way back up to the trailer. By gods, just about sobbed when we got back on land, my arms were shot, bloodied, bruised, and blistered- I could not hold onto anything and kept dropping things. 24 miles in 9 hours.

I can't explain why, but this video has become my comfort video, especially when I can't sleep. Maybe it's the calm tone Mark uses the entire time, maybe it's just something I've watched enough times. But it's very soothing.

I’ve rewatched this video so many times and it always brings a smile to my face. Even though this was a funny and entertaining video, Mark gave us some really wise words at the end. Potential quotes too. I love mark for so many different reasons. Mark if you ever read this, I love ya man and thanks for inspiring me and helping me in my best and darkest days. You are like family even though I’ve never met you. And please, I love how you do so much for us, but please, never go overboard and hurt yourself however it may come. Stay safe, have an awesome day. Love you mark and community.

Now that it's allowed again. You should try the 'Vierdaagse' in Nijmegen, Netherlands 😄. It's 4 days of walking and you can choose to do either the 30, 40 or 50km a day. (Respectively around 18.6, 24.9 and 31 miles a day) it's a big festival over here with lots of music stages and food stalls all over the city centrum (the festivity around the walking is 7 days long)
