- I'm not sure why... but a while back I attempted to walk 100,000 steps in a single day. That's more than the length of a marathon and I mostly did it indoors... here is the story of what this challenge did to my body.

This guy made video about walking steps very interesting
Wild that I found this vid now too
In the immortal words of sean":I cant tell if hes a genious or a moron."
This is the fine line. He was smart enough to know that this was a fool’s errand, he was smart enough to have stuff prepared, and smart enough to estimate what amount of steps he’d need to take in order to get that goal. But he was dumb enough to go through with it, despite all the obstacles he KNEW would be there, and how difficult it would be. That could be perceived as stupid, I suppose, but I’d argue it’s being committed to the bit. While objectively, it is stupid, subjectively? That’s stupid in his eyes. Just don’t be stupid yourself, and try to attempt this. Not without a couple months, maybe even a year of training, the proper equipment, and medical supplies, and know when you need to tap out.
The thing about smart people is that smart people can do stupid things in the most intelligent of ways.

Bro I walked nearly 20k steps in a day by accident (long story short: the walking trail didn't loop how I thought it did) and Mark tripled that, and then some. My feet and legs were absolutely murdered after my walk, I can't even fathom how 70k would hurt.
I used to walk 30k and up per day on the regular. As long as you do it gradually and eat right, it’s not too bad.
What Mark did on the other hand…
30k was mild arch pain for me which could be mildly mitigated by ice packs or just using arch support slippers/shoes. 60k well....my quads were burning from endless marching. My fitbit tells me I burnt 4,749 calories at 10:41 p.m.- I could be giving myself reasons to eat more than 3 full meals a day.
20K is child's play for the photo walks I do. I feel _nothing_ after that except occasional stiffness the next day since I don't stretch. You really do get used to it if you do it enough.
Jumping straight into it like this though. Well. That's why this video exists.
I’ve done that at Disneyland. It’s brutal
just did 20k at EPCOT, my arches are dead, walking hurt now
Totally offpoint but just wondering - imagine how many steps soldiers in certain armies got in whilst they were marching into countries. for example the German army would march 40+km EVERY DAY whilst marching into the Soviet Union in the early stages of the war. Thats absolutely mind boggling.

The average person walks 10,000 steps in a day. That's only 10 days to get to 100,000.
Even if you cut that in half and only walked 5,000 in a day, that would still only take 20 days, say 3 weeks to do that.

it's the lactic acid that makes your muscles achey and stiff. If you don't cool down after a long run, the muscles will feel super sore due to lactic acid - you're flat on the floor within seconds.
This reminds me of the second time I went kayaking ever with my folks. We decided to head down the sound to the bridge at the end of the island. Which didn’t seem to be too far away… we thought it would take maybe 2 hours to and back. The bridge was 12 miles away. We were on the water for 9 hours. It was almost dark by the time we fought the current all the way back up to the trailer. By gods, just about sobbed when we got back on land, my arms were shot, bloodied, bruised, and blistered- I could not hold onto anything and kept dropping things. 24 miles in 9 hours.
But hey, we made it to the bridge haha XD

Blizzard Maelstrom true. But that’s not what I was referring to. When humans hunted, we didn’t outrun the prey. Not with speed that is. We kept going after it, followed it, exhausted it until it couldn’t keep going, because we were made for going large distances. Not speed. So walking>running.
That’s not to say humans don’t run XD just that running is not necessary a human’s strong suit. Or rather, running quickly is not.

The sheer DETERMINATION of him! I'm in awe!
Respect to Markiplier for being... so damn determined to break his legs for out entertainment.
Mark “I’m not a masochist” Fishbach does 10x the amount of steps the average person walks in a day.
@@jenniesis a worthy challenge
if you look at the caption at 0:38 it says the average american walks 3,000 steps a day. mard tried to do 33 time the average step count.
That is not masochism
The average american walks less than half of those steps

I love how Amy just goes with all these ideas Mark commits to. Lmao.
I think she knows she can't convince him otherwise!

He makes millions of dollars why wouldn't she.
He’s said before she comes up with a lot of ideas!!! Lol
At 0:35 it says that the average person walks 3-4 thousand, and that a walking goal should be 10,000. This makes what Mark did even more incredible
I’ve rewatched this video so many times and it always brings a smile to my face. Even though this was a funny and entertaining video, Mark gave us some really wise words at the end. Potential quotes too. I love mark for so many different reasons. Mark if you ever read this, I love ya man and thanks for inspiring me and helping me in my best and darkest days. You are like family even though I’ve never met you. And please, I love how you do so much for us, but please, never go overboard and hurt yourself however it may come. Stay safe, have an awesome day. Love you mark and community.

his leg fatigue reminds me of after I did the pacer and standing long jump in the same day

"try adding 1000 steps to your daily count every 2 weeks"
mark: tsh, what about 90000 immediately
No please, don't give him ideas...
I do just want to point out that it said people walk 3k to 4k steps on average. So him even starting out at 10k is pretty high.
this is saitama
@@trickytreyperfected1482 well thats the doctor recommended amount
Well I kinda jumped to 20 thousand today and I'm jumping to 30 thousand tomorrow so I guess I'm doing something wrong
When the camera cut to Mark laying on the ground after saying his legs didn’t work I was reminded of “teacher fell down”
I initially was like “100k… easy”
But then I feel like I died after doing 20k at work so I eat my words Mr markiplier

Mark: The average moderately active human being walks 10,000 steps every day
Me: I walked 10 steps today
I think my phone said i only walked 300 steps one weekend
Lmao I remember when I downloaded a pedometer on my phone about 2 weeks ago it said I only did 40 steps in a week hahah. I'm usually an active person but I had nothing to do because we have to self isolate
How do you do it. I barely made 6
I work at Sixflags and my college is an open campus and I also work there, so I spend a lot of time walking. My average steps per day used to be 20000+, but ever since everything closed down from the stay at home order, my average is now about 800. I walk to the kitchen and then back to my room alot XD
I did not walk today
Now that it's allowed again. You should try the 'Vierdaagse' in Nijmegen, Netherlands 😄. It's 4 days of walking and you can choose to do either the 30, 40 or 50km a day. (Respectively around 18.6, 24.9 and 31 miles a day) it's a big festival over here with lots of music stages and food stalls all over the city centrum (the festivity around the walking is 7 days long)
the fact this turned out to be oddly inspirational than anything else
