      Control sticks are different, sensitivity is different even with the same curve settings for EXP. Lastly, you mostly fly DJI like many others. Autel and Parrot sticks are different too, and it takes time flying to figure it out that the inner portion of the sticks are snappy. That is all... You don't have to push the sticks full, and if you do, the sensitivity R to L is added in. So many people that are more adapted to DJI sticks have that muscle memory, and then flying an Anafi, or EVO especially can be weird because DJI is less sensitive to the inner half of the controls. That's it.... Fly a Waypoint or Viewpoint... its should fly pretty straight. We do this all the time with Evo's and just did the E2 as well.
      On our coast of FL here, we flew M2P, MA2, and Evo/2. Winds were pushing 40+ mph the other day, but routinely winds here are 15-20 AGL and at least 30 mph gusts at 250'. That's a normal day here. Anyway, MA2 was HORRIBLE in those winds. Winds were tossing it around like nothing. M2P did well, but EVO and EVO 2 were able to handle that wind, and gusts that peaked 48 mph at 250'.
      We had a job to do, had some time. One of our guys wanted to test his newer MA2, and he said it's cool and all, but for $1000 he would just buy another EVO 1 or add a few hundred towards a M2P. It's just not that great in our area to use on a daily basis.
      We didn't put the Anafi in the air lol. That would have been stupid. Our Anafi primary use is close inspection, and we love that 180 tilt camera.
      Billy, do yourself and your channel a bit of a service and investigate why these differences are there. Many people that fly these drones as routinely are out there flying every day, and know the stick variations are night vs day... We just shot an area that was 115 acres with the Evo 2 doing Waypoints. Everything was beautiful, and finished in one flight. Previously, anything over 30 acres would require multiple WP missions. EVO2 is a killer drone !! Not even our I2's can get that mark !! Winds were 26 mph at 250', and pushing 38 mph at 400'... We weren't sure, but this was E2's first real test.... it aced the test beating the M2P, and I would never have attempted with the MA2...
      Seems to me that Autel is designed more in the Professional Use category... seems their direction is such. Anyone that needs a drone for serious daily field work, RE, etc this drone is amazing.
      You don't have a bad drone, you are just too used to the DJI stick sensitivity... that's it really.. and you, and other channels now doing these reviews should do better to test that theory. DJI is a great product, but to be more credible, you have to put in the work, ask around... don't just give an opinion. Try different modes, programmed modes, etc. You and others BEAM with DJI reviews, and it shows which is OK, but seriously, do more to see why there are differences rather than point them out. We get enough of that with our daily NEWS...

    I am extremely skeptical and disappointed by Billy's review.
    Why ?
    I have the Evo 2 Pro and I do NOT have any of the flight control issues Billy refers to.
    Maybe a very marginal drift to the right when in dead stick.
    However this review suggests all Evo 2's have this flight control issue.
    THEY DON'T !!!!!!
    It is a well known fact that DJI's appware ecosystem set's the benchmark in the drone industry.
    Autel obviously does not have this benchmark level of appware.
    So does that mean Billy will raise this appware differential issue in every non DJI drone review ?
    Autel is not DJI, it never has been.
    If you want DJI's better appware, buy DJI.
    If you want the best camera on a fold up drone, 40 minute flight time, 360° obstacle avoidance, interchangeable camera payload, buy the Autel Evo 2 Pro.
    DJI doesn't offer this.
    Each manufacturer has their Pro's and Con's, that's my point.
    All of Billy's perceived issues are software related, so can be resolved by Autel.
    No offence but it comes across that Billy is a DJI fanboy.
    This review, plus some very bias and pointed responses to viewer questions here, against the Evo 2, are clearly an indication of such.
    Billy, stick to your reviews of DJI only.

  • @MakeLifeExtraordinary
    @MakeLifeExtraordinary Před 4 lety +6

    Like others have said, it seems to be luck of the draw may be a certain batch of these has issues. I haven’t had those issues though, the sticks are very sensitive. It is very easy to push forward and to the left slightly or to the right slightly, which is what I’m wondering if that wasn’t happening to you. On top of that, as far as the sensitivity of anything on the controller is concerned… You can adjust that in the menu system. The sensitivity of the camera movement with the roller on the back can be adjusted, as well as the sticks.
    I would continue to take it out if I were you and play with those settings a bit. And just make sure that you’re not pushing the joystick slightly to the right or left. Because I have caught myself doing it already and having the same issues with drift you were. I almost think they need a channel for the stick to lock into the forward position, just something so you know that you are forward center and not to one side or the other. Which I think is the biggest issue with the controller. Because again, I’ve caught myself pushing forward laughter forward right slightly and causing the same issues you ran into. Which was totally on me, but also on the ease in which you are able to do so.
    I’ve had mine up for probably 20 hours and once I got used to it, I was flying much better. The odd thing is, I have the Evo I and never noticed the same issues, so I’m wondering if it’s just not that the sensitivity for the stick is too high with the out-of-the-box settings. Since they are both pretty much the same, though I do think that there was some sort of change in the processor in the controller itself, as the range is easily another mile or more further than the original Evo. With the controller seemingly keeping better connection to the drone.
    So yeah, I guess just play with it a little more and play with the settings and see what happens. Otherwise maybe contact Autel And let them know the issues you were having. Their customer service is second to none and I’m sure they will work with you to try to understand why it’s happening.

    Not having flown the Mavic Air 2, I can't compare. But in fairness to the Evo 2, I wonder how good a drone pilot you are. In this whole video you make no comment about your own skills as a pilot and blame everything on the drone. Anyway, no matter how challenging it is to fly the Evo 2, at least you can still fly it without worrying about no fly zones. And because of that, it will always be a viable alternative to the Mavic Air 2.

    As an owner of an EVO, I find your comments on the EVO II and the controller very fair. My EVO flys with the handling of a mid-sixtys muscle car, while my MavicMini is more like a Miata. If in LUDICROUS mode, my EVO requires some "upstick" to retain altitude. Inattention will result in lost drone when chasing boats on the Ohio River. Thankfully a good CZcamsr had me ready for this scenario. As far as the controller, my hands feel very awkward when I try to use pinch method. Good job Billy.

      Very solid visuals from your car references. I had gotten the EVO 1 when they first came out back in the day and love controller and the NFZ non existent. Can remember how the EVO 1 flew though. As I had to take it back shortly after and flip back to DJI as own a drone photo company and mapping and 3rd parties no one ever had software written to allow to fly that. Was hoping that the EVO2 would be more accepted by software developers as any 107 pilot knows... you will end up using some many different programs from project to project and need something that is a guaranteed acceptance .. Kind of bummed about this video though , but I appreciate your honest review. I don't believe its a motor problem, this is a software issue and can only be resolved with a firmware upgrade... The EVO II is a great drone, it has problems and I am sure Autel is addressing them.

    • @miketipton678
      @miketipton678 Před 4 lety +2

      No, we fly M2P, Evo, Evo2 now routinely. It's just differences in the sticks. Ludi mode especially amplifies the sway because any slight movement even pushed forward can do that, plus the drone tilt is at a crazy angle. Wind direction can cause some weird movement when the drone is pitched like that. Flying upwind seems to have less angle and less sway in Ludi mode... downwind... it's a fun ride. The idea of Ludi mode is to get somewhere fast, not to be cinematic. Even if you lay off the sticks and try to be light on them in Ludi mode, again... the sensitivity is amplified. Like I just reminded Billy, stick sensitivity variations play a HUGE role in how the aircraft behaves in flight. Autel and Parrot sticks are quite a bit different than DJI... if you are used to DJI, the stick action just due to muscle memory will be far different. Our guys at the company took a few weeks flying Autel every day to get used to the sticks. Now when they fly a M2P, it seems to NOT be as snappy. That's it..

    The Evo 2 series really have this issue, but 2 very important points: This only occur in ludacrous mode and this can definitely be corrected by a firmware update. And definitely Autel will release a firmware update for it as they already did with some other issues like horizon tilt, etc...
    I am not a blind DJI or Autel fanatic, but I believe blame autel saying this is a flying brick and its a roadblock for people that want to buy this drone is just wrong.

      Alex, I'm not a pro drone user, but your comment seems logical. I feel like Billy NOT mentioning that this issue may be fixed with a firmware update, makes me suspicious of his intentions. i.e. he either wants to piss off Autel, so they'll fix it with a firmware update, or he's in bed with DJI. - And to add to that, it seems like when Billy has issues with DJI's stuff, he always has an optimistic viewpoint that DJI will fix it, but in this video, he seems to have a pessimistic viewpoint of this Autel drone, and condemning it. Billy might just be angry over the 20 takes he had to do for that one scene, and while he does make some good points in this video, it was indeed "wrong" as you put it Alex, to say some of the things that he said.

      Fly a A to B WP mission at various speeds... its not the drone. It's the stick sensitivity. Also especially with an Evo 1 given their age, swap the props. You'd be surprised how newer props can change things on an older bird. Ludi mode however is soooo tilted forward that it will fly erratically, and may drop altitude downwind.... upwind, not as much. Ludi mode is there to get you there faster, it's not for cinematic anything.

    Huh. That is crazy. I also have an EVO II, and if it would of exhibited that behavior I would of returned it for sure... I have a Mavic 2 Pro, and the EVO II has become one of my favorite drones- the battery life has enabled me to do things I would never been able to do with the Mavic. I will agree that I'm not super happy with the Dynamic Tracking, but Autel has been good about releaseing regular firmware updates making improvements all the time. There are absolutely things the Mavic does better, but the fact that the Autel has changeable camera's is a really great bonus... and the 40 minute battery life gives me much more confidence in flying the EVO then the Mavic which always seemed to be running out of a juice right when things were coming together.. I haven't had issues with the "veering" that you are showing... in fact I was really impressed with how stable the EVO II was in very high winds. There was a firmware update today that improved a lot of the gimbal issues.

    Quite an informative video Billy, I am awaiting the delivery of my Avic Air 2 and Autel Evo II 8K. The positive that you failed to mention is that the problem appears to be software related and not hardware-based,thus firmware and software updates can rectify the problem. Autel has always trailed DJI in the software and firmware department, their software is not comparable to the DJI Go4 App or the Go Fly App.I would hope that this problem is brought to Autel's attention and therefore a firmware/software update would not far off from release.

    I just sold a DJI Mavic Pro Platinum because it had too many options to keep up with, and made flying the drone a time consuming hassle instead of a joy to fly and take video and photos with. This guy obviously makes money with drones and wants what he wants and needs and as he suggested, we all have different needs and reasons to like or dislike a drone. From other videos, this drone looks quicker and easier to fly which is what I need at age 74. I got great pictures with the Mavic Pro, but just didn't want the hassle of all the settings of which many were necessary. I want a drone like my Galaxy 10+, set it on auto and set the basics and get good pictures. My decision at the moment is whether to buy this drone now, or wait and see what and if there is a Mavic 3...

  • @dogstar7
    @dogstar7 Před 4 lety

    First, the EVO II has over twice the specific mass as any Mavic with the CG well behind where the forward rotor spars attach to the fuselage. That alone gives it a much different flight characteristic than the Mavics, which in turn have different flight characteristics than the Inspire. The torque of the Mavic's rotors easily overcomes the momentum of the smaller craft whereas the EVO II, with it's massive weight and "ludicrous" speeds will exceed it's flight envelope and drift past the throttle-down point where smaller craft flyers usually expect their drones to "stick" in the air. Lastly, if you are attempting "cinematic" in regular manual flight mode then you are going to be disappointed if you attempt anything other than a smooth maneuver. EVO II has Precision and Dual Stability modes for that. It you want swooping drone shots then fly FPV cine. It you want a stable platform to shoot 8K, 6K and 4K at 60fps, get the EVO II

    3. Might it just be that you have a faulty/bad model? (just wondering if there have been many similar reports from others using it in the same conditions.)

      What they fixed was a few degrees less pitch angle... fly uwpind.. notice the difference in speed now? It's down about 6 mph from what it used to be, but fewer notice that. Flying downwind especially at that pitch angle can lose altitude... Ludicrous mode amplifies your stick movement a ton... takes a while to get used to it. I actually recommend it. Practice stick dynamics in Ludi mode, and you will adapt to the slower modes much faster. Ludi mode can be like a non GPS drone, but that's NOT the point of that speed. That speed is there to get you in and out of situations fast.... IE get the hell out of the way of manned aircraft. Flying these drones in the highest speeds all the time is asking for problems with motors, and esc circuits... Just look at recent reviews of MA2 motor problems... that can be a bigger BAD than anything wrong with the Evo. Our MA2 threw 5 motor warnings flying upwind the other day. Not good at all. When it landed they were hot !

      @@dsvollmer I did a firmware update. First, in order to have consistent speed you must turn off obstacle avoidance. It see everything that's not there. Second, you have to line up a straight run and be very accurate on the sticks. Even then my unit still pulls hard to the left. I go, everytime I turn it on, to the expo settings to try and get consistency. I find that going 100% throttle then correcting with Roll works. Once on track, with Roll correction, it will fly straight. This unit is highly overrated. The photos are garbage, the video is decent and it flies like poop. Thanks for this video, its very informative. I sold my old Mavic Pro awhile ago and have been on the fence whether to get the Evo 2 or Mavic 2 Pro. With Mavic Air 2 just out and all its improvements, this would be another option. The problem however from what I've seen is with the DJI Fly app not being as tunable as the DJI Go app. Your review was between the EVO 2 app and the DJI Go app, not the DJI Fly app. I would buy the Mavic Air 2 but the DJI Fly app is limited compared to the DJI Go app. What gimbal and drone speed controls do you lose between DJI Fly and Go apps? Thanks Billy.

      I have the MA2 and P4P. While the MA2 is a great ans small drone with good looking vids and pics, it is NOT near a replacement for my p4p. doesn't compare to the M2P either. PLus dirty little secret, the battery life is NOWHERE NEAR 34 minutes on the new MA2. more like 19...
