    Billie I think it would be the same for the Evo 2 but when your forced into RTH, ludicrous mode gets turned off. Also you need to hold the cancel\pause button down for like 5 seconds to cancel RTH. Keeping the atennas facing downward will give you better range. Also if you fly it fpv and have your phone a ways from the controller also helps.

      My first flight disconnected about 1,500 FT away and auto RTH kicked in. Couldn't cancel and started to think I was going to have to return the drone. Took 3 hours of internet searching to finally stumble upon your comment on how to cancel the auto RTH once signal is reconnected. Ty! Do you happen to know... will the drone avoid obstacles during auto RTH after disconnect? For example, if I'm on the back side of a building and I get disconnected, how will the drone handle that?

If Forward/Backward Vision System is enabled, the aircraft will ascend to avoid obstacles when detected." I also tested the feature inside a 35' tall warehouse. The aircraft will continue to ascend even when there is a ceiling above it. I had to force it down while cancelling the auto-return feature in order to avoid crashing into the ceiling.

      Lon Denard never said I was going to report him so button your pants back up. Billy is a 107 pilot and should know the rules, granted he is presumably flying under 101 Regs here. That being said, flying negligent flights is what is going to lead to more strict regulations, which are coming in the near future anyway with remote ID. If you want the ability to fly under part 101 you should probably adhere to some regulations because that is likely going to change in the future. Have fun trying to fly nefariously under remote ID.

You should do the range test again with the antennas in the right position and see if you get more range from your flight.

    I think with Autel remote for best transmission the antennae are supposed to be pointed downwards with the flat face perpendicular to the line path to your drone. Maybe an Autel owner can confirm but I remember that from some Autel 1 videos.

    Thanks for your real and honest reviews and demos Billy. You're one of the very best drone reviewers. I've owned my Evo II Pro for 10 days or so. Have flown DJI drones for 5 years. One time, in the country, my Evo II lost signal and went into Go Home mode. Video signal, connection and control never came back until the drone was 100 feet away. I never once saw this failure to reconnect in 5 years with DJI drones. When it came back, I saw that it was going to land well on the country road, so I let it continue without intervention. It came down to 3 feet above the road and stopped there reporting "unknown obstacle." It just stayed there hovering for a couple of minutes before I landed it. Guessing it would have landed if the battery got critically low. But I didn't like that it hovered over a road at a level where a car could have hit it (especially if control had never returned). There was no obstacle of any kind, and if it was going to hover and not land, it should probably have done that at at least 15 feet up, so that a vehicle could drive under it without incident. I've seen so many odd quirks with any drone, but the 6K video camera shoots the best video I have ever seen, including astonishing low light abilities, acceptable video at 6400 ISO (I don't know how they did this!). So for the camera, I think I will keep it and hope that Autel eventually finds/fixes all the bugs.

      You have to keep the RC antennas angled toward the craft. The Evo RC antennas people often raise up like DJI, but that in fact points the signal toward the ground if the RC is held horizontal. Keep in mind the RC design has a Screen, so the idea is the user will hold the RC at a 45 deg angle facing them, which then angles the antennas upward. When you see the RC's mounted on a stand, the Mfg has the RC not flat, but angled about 30-45 deg upward. To hold the RC horizontally, turn the antennas around. Though they look like they face the ground, the flat side is pointing upward about 40-60 degrees toward the aircraft. SOOOOO many people make this mistake because they are used to DJI.

    And as someone else commented, hat big building/apartments, are what was blocking your signal and likely why all of your drones reach around the same location. It is one thing to have signal interference from electrical devices and WiFi, but something totally different to have a building in the way.

      operator error.. you have to hold down pause for a few seconds to cancel auto rth. Very important to read the manual for these kind of functions before testing them. If you are used to DJI, Autel is a bit different in how they do things... so again RTM ! Video and aircraft transmission is greatly improved when you have the RC antennas angled toward the aircraft. Many point them 45 deg up, and then hold the RC low, which then points the signal toward the ground.
      When mfg's do those tests they are in large unoccupied areas of land, and mount the RC on a fixed pier. DJI, Autel, Parrot all do the same. Sometimes those piers on atop buildings a couple stories high, so the range numbers can happen, but that is NOT often anything like an urban environment.
      Think specs, and throw them out the window... Buy a soundbar for your TV... rated at 2000W??? lmao, they are maybe 25 watts each speaker, and a 50w sub... Where do they get 2000W? My 40 year old Pioneer Receiver is only 50W output, and twice as loud...

    I have flown the DJI Mavic Pro for about 4 years now. I recently upgraded to the Evo 2 Pro. Liking a lot of the features it offered. But, I've been disappointed in the range this has. My Mavic could easily fly 10,000 or 12,000 feet out without losing reception, and at a lower altitude. I often fly out over a large lake and film the sailboats on it, which I need to do at a lower altitude. Now with the Evo 2 Pro, I am constantly fighting the RTH and hurrying to get a shot before it loses the connection. Or having to climb to a higher altitude to keep the connection, but then I lost the photo/video quality. For a drone with so many great features, it loses my respect in the range part. Very very disappointed in it.

    Plus if you want the RTH to be disabled all you need to do is manually fly it off the course 30 Ft and you will make it revert from the prior command, that's same for any RTH scenario, but more importantly they incorporated that pause button on the remote and the drone itself for this very reason, so if it hits a failsafe and you don't want it to come back or maybe you dropped connection from dropping the remote or something, all you've gotta do is hit the Pause button, then continue along you happy little way.

      A higher frequency signal will always have a comparatively _reduced_ range for the same transmitted power, this is just the physics of RF power propagation i.e. a 2.4GHz signal will have around twice the range of a 5.8GHz signal. The 5.8GHz band _can_ offer a higher range if there is significant interference on the 2.4GHz band due to WiFi routers and other microwave sources.
      For info, this is why a LW radio transmission can be picked up cross-continent whereas a DAB radio transmission might only cover part of a city with the same power (ignoring ionosphere reflection).

  • @yourtubernoob
    @yourtubernoob Před 4 lety

    Only other suggestion I have is if you're going to do live tests or crucial tests like these at all, write out and plan a base control lineup as to how you test each and every drone in the same exact way as possible, I understand the weather and certain environmental effects aren't as easy to replicate but notate how you're going to use and aim the controller, distance pattern or should I say flight route, height and notate as well if it may be windy or also pay attention to which flight modes you are in, because yes the EVO has amazing constant speeds as what was just shown at a consistent 46Mph but luda mode literally takes away half you battery longevity in flight distance and actual longevity in terms of battery health over time just because high rate discharges and fast charges over a consistent amount of time will roast that battery hell of a lot quicker than a regular amount if normal usage and maintenance. Also did you notice how the battery time frame bounced from 22 minutes to 15:30 when you noticed and mentioned it but yet due to the amazing almost like rejuvenation or passive assisted reclamation of it's energy brought it back up past 18 and this was all while still in Luda mode and going 46 Mph lol just think if the distance you could achieve with just cruising in normal 22 or 34 mph and also get a better connection due to the RC being able to keep up with the farther distance and lesser amount of solid signal between the 2, because while hauling ass at 46 Mph is fun an all but it makes it harder for the RC to achieve a solid stable connection. Sorry for the little rant, I just do my testing more like a controlled science experiment in a way lmao but that's why my review videos also don't come out for a few days because of everything I try to pack all in one, which I'm learning I'm gonna have to start doing segments or episodes because no one wants to sit through a damn hour long drone review / test viewing lol. Keep doing what you do Billy and hopefully see and closer comparison between the Competition and especially to see how the new MA2 stacks up the this beast!
