Searching For An Old Mill And A Most Awesome Possum Find!

- Please join me and Mike as we bushwhack and ford a stream in search of an old colonial-era water-fed water wheel mill site deep in the woods of Virginia. Mike takes me to an old stone foundation on a densely wooded hillside that he was told was the mill, but I suspect it isn't actually the mill site rumored to be in the area. With a little luck and by reading some clues in the ground, we eventually find the mill and I make an awesome discovery along the way.
About Aquachigger:
I enjoy metal detecting for historical items like gold coins, relics, silver coins, and other buried treasures. I also metal detect for gold and silver nuggets and even meteorites. I like to make videos that promote my choice of lifestyle that includes outdoor adventure,
metal detecting, yapping, searching for river treasure, SCUBA diving, exploring abandoned places, hiking, caving, caring for animals and pets, and observing the things outdoors that often go unnoticed by most people who are not familiar with outdoor adventures and nature. I keep my CZcams "Aquachigger" channel family-friendly and hope you subscribe if you like my style.
BTW, you can also catch me here, / chiggsarmy ,but I may get a little edgier there. FB isn't a place for kids anyway...lol.

Hey Chig, we've got a Civil War officer's sword, in pristine condition to go with that belt plate. Still in it's original scabbard., but minus the belt & plate. The silver rings that attach to the belt are still on the scabbard but belt & plate are long since gone. Belonged to an ancestor of mine. We'd love to see your plate all cleaned up.
The haunted look in his eyes!! Bring a friend along if you go back out with Mike... ;)
Nothing like watching an Aquachigger video while the Super Bowl plays.
Had a GR8 day Detecting with ya. See you on the next one 😎
No fair, Chigg can smell brass.
@@davidfish591 He sure can! Human metal detector. I couldn't believe how shallow this plate was. There was for sure something going on here. I found a CS confederate buckle in the area.
Man your face was a picture when chigg showed that plate to you lol it's crazy how things get found by other people when you've spent time trying to find an example.
I've had it happen with hammered coins lol
@@scrappydoo7887 Yes for sure. It's a game of inches!!
@@gr8finds196 without a doubt 👍
Relics speak for the past.... love content....thanx4sharing.
That square chunk of iron you found at the start. I think was used in the blacksmithing to smoothing seams or something like that. Had a long handle on it.
that zoom was hilarious
The Plate was a great find , can't wait to see what y'all find on the old mill site.
Found a few of your videos and I'm hooked now. I always loved to explore in the mountains around where I grew up. I'm not able to any more so I'll watch you guys. KY
How about a nice long adventure tonight? Mike and I have a great exploring detection and had loads of fun. Please join us if you'd like.

Loved the sword belt plate what a great adventure today
nice dig, Chigg 👍
That was like the bottom fell out of mike's world from the look on his face when he kneeled down in front of "the plate" lol
Hey Chig. What is the most valuable item you ever found?
I shoulda known you don't read these comments.
Beau you didn't Dieded and you got a plate sweet nice finds!!!; )
wow Chigg ! Mike’s eyes 👀 at the end in the pic 😆. nice recovery on the sword plate 💥👍🤠🏴☠️
This is Mike. I was like, 😲 Wow!!!
@@gr8finds196 lol i was like he’s about to zoom in on his eyes 👀 then i was like yup he did it bahaha had me cracking up . awesome site brother
I love the zoom in of Mikes face with the eagle buckle, lol
Awesome, find I love those sword plates.
Congrats Chigg!! Wow beautiful belt plate. Everyone that watches this video will be envious
lol at zooming in on Mike at the end. That really tickled me
Chig is short for cheer me up! You always make me smile! Adorable! 😃 Love it!
You are the man , you definitely know your skill metal detecting.
Great find today!!
Good evening from Southeast South Dakota
Some good ground reading there. Nice find too. I’m amazed you don’t carry a machete to cut those branches and limbs out of the way. Save getting poked in the eye!👍
I believe that the aluminum piece that Mike found is a Nash center hub cap. Could be 90+ years old. Makes you wonder if there are remains of the car about or if they changed a tire and lost it.
8:11 widow maker to your right above your head....
Closing picture--hilarious!!
Mike's reaction- haha! Great one Chig!
Thanks again for your videos; it keeps a guy excited during the winter. I have permissions for some homesteads when the ground thaws.
Oh my nenith Chigg I love beavers and ferocious samsqanches 👶🏻
I’m glad Mike didn’t “kill ya.” 😜
Awesome find! I love your great big smile and how you zoomed in on Mike’s face at the end. LOL! 🤣
Awesome find...I am so interested in your digs, now I am reading more about the Civil War, thank you...
You are the WIZARD, don't deny it 😉
Nice day out and congratulations on the sword plate. Furthermore, hope Fiona and the wobbly kitten, stayed warm and dry at home by the fire.
Great video Chig Man! That is how I found an old mill once...
What an awesome find chigg. You know if there's one there's more. Can't wait to see what you find when you go back. I'm sure when you find the original site of the mill you will find lots of relics Congrats on your awesome finds. Catch you on your next hunt. As always safe and happy hunting/digging.😁👍👍
I know one thing I spotted when you found that 30/30 brass cartridge was that deer rub on that sapling in the background.
Mrs. Garrett passed on...she was a very generous woman. Garrett is a great company!
One Day I Will Get Me A Plat To. Look Like A Fun Time & A Good Hunt.
Hey Wizard. I felt bad for your buddy but congratulations on the sword plate! Old mills are neat places. Your mill there was probably a tub mill rather than an overshot wheel. The house was probably the miller's home. Hope you go back to this location. I'm actually more interested in iron objects that you find. Iron treasure I hope you find include: Tomahawks, fire steels/strikers, gun locks/parts, sheath knives/bayonets, and bullet molds. Things carried by frontiersmen/pioneers. I keep hoping you find something I recognize as being off an agricultural steam engine. FYI. The house I grew up in has yucca plants in the yard as well and the property has been in habited since the 1930s.
Chig you are a lucky fella.
6:30 I see a deer rub love the videos sir
Hello, the plate you found is very nice. So you didn’t get skunked. And the man you were detecting with today has beautiful brown eyes. Still waiting for caves. Kathy
Like code flows on the Matrix movie the actor reads like pictures, when I hear your AT Garrett, I picture your ears decoding the tones, beeps, and squeakers to the point I almost expect you to speak the same sounds Chig 😂. Nice video.
Chigg, you've found so much great stuff! I, wish Mike, could find something great!
I did dig a CS confederate civil war buckle here last year. You can see it in one of my early videos. It's a 2 piece buckle and chigg was nice to try and help me find that other piece. I'm thinking it is there somewhere. There definitely was some activities going on here many years ago.
@@gr8finds196 Thank you, for the reply.
Good to you again buddy good luck to both yall
Wishing you the best! Great video.
Thank you! You too!
Congratulations on the plate. I love how to can read the land. Great hunt guys👋👍

Great finds Chigg. The Awesome possum strikes again. Best of luck with future hunts. 👍
Great video. I liked that Nash axle dust cap.
Thanks Marc. This is Mike. I had no idea what that thing was.
Nice zoom, had me chucklin'. Looked like my buddy Evan. That sword plate is Sweeeet! Make shure to bring your machete next time.
Awesome Possum! That's what we like!

Congrats on the sword belt plate Chigg. It's crazy that you dug it with your fingers. Happy hunting and be well
The look on Mike's face was worth the video.
Great find on the officer's plate!!
ive noticed men in their 40s and 50s have little popularity on YT yet this guy somehow isn't affected by this he has something so charismatic it transcends age..ps b4 you attack me I'm a 52 year old male
Very nice plate. Congratulations!
Unbelievable ! Nice find !
The Yucca plant looks like an Adam's Needle
I enjoy your videos and how you work out what might be going on at any site helps alot thanks chigg take care and good luck my friend
Those green plants are Rock Lilly's.
Marvellous
Random sword plate, kind of like the Eagle A I dug a couple of miles from my house.
Always enjoyable.
Chigg...We just can't take you anywhere. Lol!!
Awesome day chigger on your video 👍
That definitely was an awesome possum find 👍
Awesome find. Look forward to more great buried treasures.

Great episode Chigg!
Love the videos brother! Always awesome, it's crazy even if you find "junk" I'm all about it!! Just the adventure is what is awesome 😎!!
Great video and adventure plus some really good finds 👍
Thanks for sharing 👍mr chigg I think that plant we call it yucca we find around native American sites they used it for many things good video
When you’re in the woods with all those branches and sticks, maybe you could wear some safety glasses. It might make it easier to move about without worrying about poking your eye out! ✌🏼❤️
Nice find Chigg!
great hunt guys
1:28 Bigfoot print? Watch out for a rabid Bigfoot, they're bad 'gnaws'.
Nice Chigg! I knew If my brother got you on that permission you was going to find something awesome! There might be a slim chance to find the remains of a musket in the river! Do some magnet fishing!!! I love my hat btw! Thank you!
that 20s nash wheel cap is cool
Hey Chigg and Mike
Congratulations Chigg on the plate. Y’all be safe and GOD BLESS
Would love to see either of you do a colab with Diggin On Faith. His channel is pretty new. He has had some amazing Civil War finds.
Don't forget to get Lindsey a Valentine.
Great video!!!
It's been awhile. My favorite videos of yours are the ones in the water! Be well to you and your long suffering wife.
Neat Nash hubcap!
Ah so that's what it was 👍
@4:10 look like the tool for pressing waxed cotton caulking into the hull planks on a boat.
DAYAM!
Chigg,
Giving us the old eyeball, eh?
At the 4:08 mark that iron item looked like a "spud" that would have been used to break ice, maybe around the mill site. The end was to blunt for a "shaving" tool.
Just my guess.
The plant is a rock lily.
It looks like an Adam's Needle, a type of Yucca. They look very similar, but Adam's needle is particularly common among home sites, particularly pre 1950s. They also have very similar blooms. Very very common in the southeastern United States.
The “Gear” looks like a parking brake part for a wagon. They went next the driver’s seat and a lever with a ratchet pawl would lock on it.
That look on Mike's face...poor Mikey
Chigg u gotta come to hamilton ontario and doo the bruce trail and rail trail theirs soooooo many ruins of old stone buildings along their along with sulpher springs
ooohhh todd dont feel bad
