Metal Detecting : Big Holes

  • Today we search the site of an old colonial homesite with a metal detector and shovel. I explore the ground in the area by digging search pits in the hopes of finding the central area where the homesite was originally located knowing that this specific spot could be paved with coins, buttons, and other interesting artifacts.
    About Aquachigger:
I enjoy metal detecting for historical items like gold coins, relics, silver coins, and other buried treasures. I also metal detect for gold and silver nuggets and even meteorites. I like to make videos that promote my choice of lifestyle that includes outdoor adventure,
metal detecting, yapping, searching for river treasure, SCUBA diving, exploring abandoned places, hiking, caving, caring for animals and pets, and observing the things outdoors that often go unnoticed by most people who are not familiar with outdoor adventures and nature. I keep my CZcams "Aquachigger" channel family-friendly and hope you subscribe if you like my style.
BTW, you can also catch me here, / chiggsarmy ,but I may get a little edgier there. FB isn't a place for kids anyway...lol.

Why on earth would you think the "copper head" story would bore anyone? Very interesting, never hesitate to tell "boring" stories.

Glad you got out before that storm hit. I always love your stories of civil and pre civil war history out that way😃 And your finds are so awesome. I loved the tiny button and the tiny buckle you found. The story of the penny too. I would love to go with a style like yours of the old wild west here in Arizona but I'm such a dork, I would mess all history up from my end🤣 Always a great video Chigg! Have a great rest of your week👍

Today we dig test pits at an old homesite and try to find the exact spot where the home was located. If we find this spot, it will be the center of the artifact spread and could contain everything that was in the house at the time it burned. This might include gold and silver coins, buttons, belt buckles, and silver.

You should get a drone and fly it above. You might see some property lines or markings from above that you wouldn't see from the ground. Might help you pin point a better spot to dig

Love the outtakes at the end. Always a great way to start the day with a Chigg vid. Thats a really interesting piece of American History....thats why I am super keen to start detecting here in Australia.....sooooo much local history to learn about, and thats grounded, human history...the history of individuals, not just the overarching History of the era. Some long gone woman washed that plate countless times and no doubt berated whoever broke it...and someone wore that pin on their coat and may have gotten into heated political arguments while going about their biz in the nearest town....much like what happens today.
Thanks for giving all of those long gone peoples a voice of sorts and letting us vicariously peer into their lives.

You should try a Vanquish 340. It`s very inexpensive but hits coins deeper than the AT PRO. Works on beaches too. They can unmask coins near a nail too. But they don`t do well in very trashy areas with lots of iron. Great for deep coins in old gardens and such.

I know there was an era where you could tell if the people had money if they had any paintings with the color blue on them. I'd say that probably goes for pottery or anything requiring the pigment blue. Seems like it was earlier than civil war era but if it was Id say there is still alot to find there.
