Witcher 3 - REDkit | Speed build - Mountain tower

- Speedup of a 2 hours long session. The main regions of the map being done, my focus is now on adding point of interests on the frontiers that connect the regions together. This mountain tower connects three of the ten regions that make the map: a swampy village, a vast inclined valley, and a dense forest; It offers a nice panorama that will probably become an essential tool during your monster hunts!
The locations may lack decoration currently as I plan on doing a full decoration/loot containers/herbs pass once everything is setup and each corner has a well defined theme. - Hry
Calling it right now, fans are going to recreate the entirety of Witcher 1 in this before CDPR makes an official remake

This is literally that updated version of REDengine which they used to make TW3 next gen edition with.

@@bryanadams8359 That would be the original REDengine 3. This an updated version of it that they made The next gen update with. It's not much different than the Original REDengine 3 though.

I'm amazed how people can come from absolute zero and create incredible things like this game. Just creating this map is a hat-tip. Now with this tool I hope people will take more risks in starting new projects. Don't wait for someone to do it, do it yourself. Take pleasure in creating something.
If You can do almost everything in this editor... This will be something like Skyrim 2.0 for modding community. If You can add perks which make sense, change combat system a lil... or do total conversion mod... Then this is insanely good.
Mmmh now that you mention it, it should be technically possible to edit the UI to add even more perks to trees yes!
@@thibaultaelto4673 it MUST be possible, this is literally the tool they used to make the game.
@@StefanConstantinDumitracheyes, but sometimes the engineers add features or functions in engine code that won’t necessarily be exposed to the designers. Not saying that is the case here, but just because we got the game tools doesn’t mean we can do *everything* without the engine code.

I discussed it today with other people and I wouldn't recommend to start with a map that big, it's way too much work and something the size of TW1's maps is a much better scope. The next maps i'm going are probably going to be that size
this is amazing. I've been building on minecraft, vintage story, roblox studio for years now, but this is different, this is a combination on all the things that I ever wanted on my favorite game!

Great work! I've been trying to get into REDKit since its official launch. It's quite complicated but oh my what a joy to see something you've done work! I've got a question. I faced problems regarding environment/day&night cycle. I've tried setting weather and environment templates but whatever I do my world seems very dark. Do you have any tips on what could I do to improve it? Appreciate in advance!

You might need an env probe, i think there is a guide in the official CDPR wiki. It's in the right click / Graphics menu, then you configure it and in the right click menu you'll find an option to generate the cube map. In my world i've set one to be full white at 2 intensity, which is what you see in the video.

I hope modders mod the Redkit to make it even more capable. Add new physics, simulation, animations, blending systems. Imagine an animation system similar to TLOU2.
Cinematic camera movements to dialogue cutscenes. Remake the combat system, potions, skills.
Basically every must have mod ported now officially with the dev tools into the game to make it actually properly integrated, but better.
Hell if the most popular modders teamed up they could pretty much make up an entire team and make their mods very optimised and compatible.

I would really appreciate a tutorial and tips about vegetation. I'm an absolute newcomer when it comes to programs like REDkit and coming out of Blizzard Editors I feel so lost without proper tutorials :p

Hey man trying to learn the engine atm and there doesn't seem to be any documentation on the atlassian site about how to simply place down water, specifically for an ocean. I'm coming from the Creation Kit where it was simple as either placing a water plane or setting the waters height with a checkbox lol.

Hi ! From what i know there is a world setting for the waterLevel, you then build your world around that global water level for its ocean. Then there are Local Water Areas that puddles or lakes, you can find them in the right click menu, then Graphics i think.
Water areas and custom shaped areas will be the topic of my next video then, it seems to be a frequent question!
There actually is a tutorial for that, you have two options for water, global water and local water. Global water is around your terrain automatically, for placing local water create a new layer, right click on the screen go to graphics section, and add local water area, increase it's size and create a pool for the body of water in the terrain. And that's about it. Color, foam intensity and flow of the water can be adjusted in the World environment editor in environment definitions.
If after following these instructions there is no water in your level, enable water shader in the properties of your world file and also check the environment editor settings (Where you enable stuff like global fog) and check if enable water shader is set to true.

How do you puit objects on the ground? Ive been trying to use all kind of objects but I cant seem to figure it out
iirc if you're on your level, you have to create a layer. Then find object you'd like to put in asset browser, click on it once and press "c" on your world preview. Choose static mesh and then you can adjust object's position.

The real question is, are location mods compatible with eachother? How will compability even be handled further down the road with witcher mods?
Hard to tell. I'm not 100% sure about it but I think it depends on where the new locations are and how they "connect" to the game.
For example the maps i'm making will be completely disconnected from the base game and so they will cause no issues but if someone were to add something to an existing level (Toussaint for example) by modifying the terrain then it would be incompatible with every mod that also edits the same level.
So it depends on whether you ADD or EDIT stuff, and where you do that too...

T'is a fresh location from my mind! I am not basing myself off the lore. My goal is to make a series of maps for a gamemode i'm preparing, this map is supposed to represent the frontier where humans had to retreat and abandon their settlements because of newly emerging monsters

I agree! This map is going to use the cold/snow weather but i keep a clear one for level editing so i can see what i'm doing 🤓 But i'm like you i'd like to see more snowy areas and that's why the second map i'm planning is going to be a glacier of some sort!
@@thibaultaelto4673 Sounds good. Yes, I really want to see new hubs which is full covered of snow similar to Skyrim areas. Also you could reuse assets/objects from this little hub from main quest. I dont remember exact name of that map but it is the place which is dead by Wild Hunt snow and Geralt is teleported to that place.
@@thibaultaelto4673 Well and I found out that these current "different worlds" could be expanded as well. Maybe somebody will be interested in that. Now, with RedKit it is doable.

@@CreedM8 It's always been possible, the kit should make it easier but it's a difficult & time consuming task nonetheless!

Yes, CDPR contacted a team of modders for an early-alpha so they could get feedback while they developed it. I was part of that team, and i put my focus on the level editing features for that entire period 😅 Which is why i'm making videos so that i can share what i learned during those many months!

I'm not sure I fully understand the end of your message so i'll give a broad answer:
The map you see me making here is part of my next mod. An alternate gamemode that allows you to focus entirely on monster hunting, preparation and gathering. In terms of features you can expect the same as RER but more polished thanks to the REDkit and with three to four times the amounts of features compared to the said mod... That probably means a few more months before I release the first playable version I think
