Kingdom Come Deliverance is a medieval RPG game set in 15th century Bohemia, developed by Warhorse Studios and published by Deep Silver.
⚠️DISCLAIMER⚠️
I am not an expert in medieval combat. All the stuff I know are from watching hundreds of hours of CZcamsrs who are knowledgeable on the medieval time period. Actually, it was when I started playing Kingdom Come:Deliverance that I found a casual interest on this subject. Here are links to their channels you can check out in case you're interested.

Quick note at 4:41. Assuming Henry is keeping contact with Bernard, this is probably one of the more realistic spins in movies/games. The danger of a spin is losing track of what your opponent is doing, but if contact can be kept you can feel what your opponent is doing, rather than relying on sight. Of course, this would never work when fighting more than one person.
I wish we could see a similar spinning move being pulled off in HEMA sparring so we can evaluate it properly. From my view,IRL the delay after parrying and before landing a hilt strike is enough time for his opponent to react by shoving him away and possibly land a counter.
@@ThatOtherGamer I would say this might be like the "Francisca just a throwing weapon" question...
I guess it might catch the opponent off guard. and as @ryanm7704 stated, ur shield will keep contact with the opponents weapon, till they get hit.
Buuut...it still might be a one-timer, to pull off
So confusing when youre justbgetting into the game and trying to figure out what your aim in combat should be. Thanks for clearing this matter up so concise
😄👍
After initiating a perfect block, press lmb or rmb at the same time when the opponent's weapon hits your weapon during the slow mo animation to do riposte. To do mastertrike, simply press block at the right time when the opponent is about to strike or even before seeing the green shield icon
This game is a masterpiece.
It's a pretty good game,I agree.
It would be if there weren't so many glitches. 9.9/10 anyway tho
It's definitely much better now than it was years ago. Glad you like it!
This video has been in the backburner for a while, glad it's finally been done.😄
Master Strikes usually fit the definition of a risposte, parrying an attack and use it for your own attack
To my understanding the master strikes are ripostas done in single tempo (like the ones in music or dance, the amount of time necesarry to react or do an action). Most of ripostas require 2 tempos, one for the block and second one for the counter attack, but master strikes do that in one move, typically dislacing enemy attack with base of the blade and striking with the end or, if you cant reach that far, folowing up with a trust.
PS. I'm being thaugt fencing by the guy who was reference on this for the devs, so ask away.
Makes perfect sense!
I'm playing the game in hardcore and i think there should be a counter for master strikes, that could give the game more fun difficulty, because once you learn that move it seems to be the only effective way, and medium and high level npc's use it a lot too, so you can't performance some good combos, it happened to me in the Rattay tournament with the second NPC, almost impossible to win if you don't know that move too. I hope this will change in KCD 2, and dreaming with an update for the first one.
I hope so too. It's one issue with the combat I talked about a lot that I'm waiting to see rectified in the sequel.
The difference between the codex and the actual training is really confusing. Not to mention when testing it out on bernard. It happends a lot when trying ripostes that he simply master-strikes you right back, so the animations go from his attack, to your slow-motion parry, and just as your weapons collide you click on an attack button and it jumps into a master-strike aimed at you. Now this makes it seem like ripostes, as far as the game is concerned, is a weaker form of master-strike; one that can be perfect-parried or even master-striked into. (Master-striked? Struck?) The only downside I can imagine to favoring master-strikes is the length of some animations during fights with multiples oponents, where the control of the riposte and its timing could be preferable, especially against lower-tier enemies that wont perfect-parry 90% of your attacks.
That's correct,a riposte is a tier below master strikes. The only weakness of it against multiple enemies is that the long animations give them time to surround Henry.
2:06 damn... I was trying so hard to learn the master strike,
not knowing I was _always_ doing'em xD
😂
I think it's confusing since it's a game mechanic and we're thinking too much into it. You can do a Perfect Block and then Riposte and you can also do a Master Strike and follow it with a Riposte. It's just that some Ripostes animations are in some but not all Master Strike animations. Just the way the game was made.
it's not supposed to be but its interchangeable in this game
Great
😄👍
The intention of the game, Riposte and Master Strike are two different things. NPC can do both of them, but you can only do master strike. Riposte are unaccesible and was never fixed. Riposte is an attack that can only be counter by another perfect block (master strike is impossible) You cant master stroke an enemy Riposte, only perfect block. Shame that developer never fix it. Read the codex and combat tutorial for reference
The tutorial already explains it, IF the person does the tutorial it should be clear that it is as he says: "able to defend and attack at the same time".
Ok, I am an idiot, I kept trying to Master Strike by attacking the same direction on the opponent as I block. So I just tap block at the right time? No other buttons?
Yes,just press block when you see the opponent's shoulders move for an attack.
I've completed the tutorial for master strikes but Henry doesn't always do it. It seems kind of random. Sometimes he will perfect strike, sometimes he will just perfect block; no further reposte. Am I doing something wrong?
I'm certain it's not random. Watch the opponent's shoulders, when you see them move for an attack, press block. Higher weapon levels also widens the MS window.
Here,this might help. czcams.com/video/gvtyEQRuY3Q/video.html
ive just read in game it is possible to perfect block one opponent then aim the riposte at the second opponent ive never experienced or seen this so is it true?
Really? I've never seen such a move before. If I remember correctly,Henry can only land a MS on an opponent while his focus is on another, but redirecting a counter?Never heard of that one.
Well I’m not saying it’s possible but my interpretation of what was written in one of the in game help menus could totally be off, but it sounds effective and cool as hell
Does picking master strikes for a particular weapon prevent them for other weapons?
MS is a universal skill,it's not weapon specific.
@@ThatOtherGamer I just confirmed it is, thanks for your help :)
Once you learn master strikes in your preferred weapon you can do them with all weapons, the reason Bernard asks what weapon you would like to learn it with is because you first need to beat him in a duel before he'll teach you the "advanced technique"
Nice video
Thanks! 😊🙏
Indeed
Literally played through the whole game wondering why my riposte attempts never worked and I find out you have to learn how to do it first 🤦♂️
😬
The way the game just throws master strikes at you is pretty lazy. You go from not knowing what they are to instantly knowing every single master strike move and being able to execute them flawlessly no matter where you and your opponent's weapons were before the strike.
Yes,the learning path of Master Strikes seemed abrupt. Hopefully,we'll get a more refined and balanced version in the sequel.
