Shatter is such an interesting song and on the first couple listens I was confused and didn’t know how to grasp it, but after listening to it a lot more I love Shatter. I love the intro a lot, it literally sounds heavenly and the choreo fits perfectly with it. The chorus definitely threw me for a loop but it actually grew on me, I do wish it would’ve been executed a bit differently but nevertheless it’s still a good chorus once you get used to it. Then the verse with Jiu, yoohyeon, and Siyeon….
impeccable. The bridge although it’s too short, Siyeon did so well. And the ending chorus was a lot more fun, they made it more dramatic and I loved that. Shatter is one of those songs that not too many people understand and would never understand, but man when you do understand it, it seems like a masterpiece. Not to mention the choreo fit perfectly and really gave off the feelings in the song

Shatter went from what is this, to the more I listen to it, find out it's about Medusa, and than the Dance video (which I think is one of their best choreos) 3rd favorite on the album to first. I don't think it's an old age issue, I'm a 42 year old metal head who loves the experimental nature of Shatter.
1. Shatter (love the experimentation, and the choreo brings it to a whole new level)
2. Rising (Great rock song, but agree it's missing something. Might be too rock not enough kpop infusion?)
3. OOTD (Love the Nine Inch Nails sound mixed with a Rob Zombie/Power Man 5000 rock/metal instrumentation)
4. We Are Young (like you said very nostalgic, but I listened to too much Calvin Harris and Zedd from the early to mid 2010s)
5. Intro (beginning is cringe, second half is great)
I think this whole album was designed with concerts in mind, especially Rising and We Are Young.
I would argue if something is "missing" from Rising it's more Rock in that I think even with Dreamcatcher, the production often seems afraid in parts to go the whole way. Like the guitars sound good, but could have a bit more distortion, the drum patterns are very fitting but it doesn't sound like real drums / produced in a way that they lose some "oomph" and don't hit as hard & don't sound as crisp as the song demands.
@@Friedensp4nzer Oh for sure I could see that. Like I said it's missing something and can't put my finger on it. Still a great song regardless and is going bang in concerts.
OOTD is not my favorite title track of them but I appreciate the risk of trying something different. Rising for me is a song to exploit the vocals of the 7 members (for example SuA, Handong or Gahyeon who took parts that Yoohyeon or Siyeon would normally sing). Shatter is about Medusa that's why "i'm think I turn into stone" and the abrupt end of the song because they finally turned into stone, the choreography also alludes to her (you can see JiU at the beginning as Medusa and the other members behind moving their hands like snakes on his head). It happened to me that I didn't like Shatter when I heard it for the first time, but now I listen to it on a loop, it fascinates me, because since Scream I haven't had a song that made me move my head like a parrot, it's one of those songs that in the end They become one of your favorites. We are young is a song to end a concert, it is true that they have several of that type but they are not going to always sing the same one, I see it as a perfect closing for their future concerts, a new era.

I guess OOTD is trying to get a broader audience, I don't dislike it. Rizing could have been more subtle, the rock part is fire. But Shatter ... wow the low registers, the visuals and this choreography ... I love it sm, it is now in my top 3 behind Deja Vu znd Red Sun. And JiU ... omg. 2023 was a perfect JiU year with black and brown hair.

The reason for your not liking is probably it being not your taste which is totally fine ...
For me dreamcatcher's experimental songs are one of my favourite like ( Locked inside a Door , Some love , Shatter )

Shatter, so "i turn into the stone (DC english)" is about the Medusa. they've turned into stone and are now hoping to be shattered into pieces "bang it on me" so a bird can carry a shattered piece of me into the sky so i can be free... or something like that lol
1. We Are Young: Like you said, nostalgia.
2. Rising: Just the rock sound.
3. OOTD: Not bad, not great. Just good.
4. Shatter: To experimental for me, but it's good.

Rising and We Are Young were instantly one of my favorite songs from them, the other ones took me a few times to understand what was made in the composition and appreciate the choices. Like, I love all the changes in Shatter but I need melodies in the chorus lmao, so it took me some time to appreciate everything else in the music enough to make up for that

Shatter always my fav from this album. I enjoyed a lot this album even not that much actually... compare to previous album/ full album.
1. Shatter, taken as a whole with choreo and outfits and all, one of the best things DC has done imho.
2. OOTD and Rising - both are really good, really Dreamcatcher in their own ways. I want that Rising moshpit next concert.
3. Intro - it's okay. They did have a lot of better ones
4. We Are Young - the first DC song I skip every time, they make me listen to a lot of genres, but everything about this song annoys me to no end, just not my type of music at all, never was.

Notes:
We Are Young - gave me teary-eye specially at the end. And yeah, it is nostalgic and a song with such emotions
Shatter - Same thoughts. The chorus is not for me too, tho everything else is good. The choreo for the chorus part is lacking too. It didn't help too much. The concept of the song is good tho.
Rising - Nothing to say. It just slaps and hits so hard. I think the "ri-ri-ri-sing" part will be very good at concerts since it envokes the crowd to chant with them.
Good video overall. The very first DC album reaction ig? If I'm not mistaken. Take care on your trip and always be safe.

Shatter has shock factor and I love it but the rest melodies on that song is so good
My ranking is
OOTD- I loved this at first listen, idk why ppl/ fans didn’t like it much but it’s up my alley and a hype song for my gym.
SHATTER- At first wasn’t sure but now definitely a repeat song and their experiment song always gets me. Never skip it when on play.
RISING- I love this song. Enough said. But OOTD and SHATTER topped it.
WE ARE YOUNG- a good feeling song but not my type to go back again and listen on repeat, only on shuffle or pregaming for a rave lol
Personal interpretation of shatter
It mirrors the hardships that Medusa faced only that DC is singing in the POV of Medusa's victim who is ironically enjoying the torture (probably bec they're obsessed with Medusa). It's sort of putting someone you're excessively obsessed with at the image of Medusa
And you're willing to be turned into stone and "banged" to a point of being shattered. As if dying for Medusa is a k**k

Saudi Kcon had one of the best live vocals sound mix. i have to admit, Saudi has all the money, so i guess they have the best sound engineers lol
Sometimes I suspect the Engrish in DC songs is deliberate.

Basically love everything about Rising vocally, but it's also musically not exactly my taste in rock in a way I can't really articulate.
OOTD would be #1, but I'm not a fan of that short OOTD this my fashion/shut up no more questions part every time the chorus drops. Big fan of it otherwise.
Shatter grew on me, though I think it'd be a better song if the final version of the chorus was the one used throughout the song.
And I have no real comment on We Are Young except that I'll probably literally never listen to it again !
Overall, not their strongest album, but still okay. Luckily with kpop all you have to do is wait 6 months for the next one.
I do hope that a lot of new fans are streaming, and that the pre-buyers aren’t too burned by the album if they didn’t like it. I like the album, but the new fans breakthrough isn’t obvious if it is there.

Shatter is a weird one. The chorus was a speed bump at first, but if I had to pick only one for a playlist it would probably be Shatter at this point. It’s interesting and It just works for me, but it isn’t something I’d recommend first.
It's an amazing album. Why wouldn't they like it? It sounds amazing and looks amazing
People on reddit and CZcams like to play extremes so it’s hard not to get sucked into speculation. I’ve seen a few level headed fans say they didn’t like it, but are happy their pre-order supported the girls. I just find the fall off with engagement from youtube likes a bit disappointing, compared to Vision, but that isn’t the most useful metric, and neither are views.
Different composers have different results
He likes easily digestible bubblegum Korean pop it's understandable he doesn't like this album
If I’m being honest, this album is kinda a mixed bag for me… ootd and shatter didn’t totally stick out to me mostly of how different it sounds. I only started appreciating them only after finding out the motifs behind the songs. Rising definitely my top pick of the album and we are young is just that typical dc feel good song. As you said at a point, between it being a company decision or dc’s decision, imo definitely not the latter. I feel that way kinda coz with their fan songs, it’s pretty much the type of song they know their fans love. I mean come on, reason? Nuff said… anyway, really enjoy your reactions as usual, happy holidays to you and your family!

OOTD and Shatter are kinda mid for me in entire dreamcatcher discography if being listened to audio only. Those songs give way more experience as performance. Well any song from them is better as performed yeah but the gap for OOTD and Shatter is huge between audio only or with stage performance.

shatter has a 'kpop drop' so those that like kpop will gravitate to it even though it's an 180 shift from the verses. if you hear it enough it becomes more tolerable even if you hated it on first listen :D.
1. rising would be perfect if it wasn't for distorted vocals throughout most of the song
2. shatter beats out we are young just because I am not into that type of edm. the concept is actually pretty cool
3. we are young has the cleanest vocals of all the tracks so that saves it despite being one of my least favorite edm genres
4. ootd worse song in dc's discography because it desecrated their voices for the entire song, something I feared most when I heard ateez crew would join after leez left
