    I think sound is a quintessential part of motorcycles and the zx-4rr being able to rev so high at modest speeds is what really does it for me. When I first was shopping for a motorcycle, I was split between the Ninja400 and the zx-25r available here in Japan. I ended up choosing the Ninja400 for little bit more power but not having that inline-4 sound really does bum me out. Now that I've been riding the Ninja400 for 3 years, I'm ready to upgrade and I was looking at the zx-6r for a while but the zx-4rr just might be the perfect bike for me. Amazing sound and bump in performance.

    4 cylinder 400cc machines were commonplace in Japan when I lived there in the 1990s. I even started out on a 4 cylinder 250cc Suzuki. Certainly the 4RR is lighter, has better suspension and brakes. Hey, now I want to give one a go!

      Having started on a 1993 ZXR400 and now owning it since 18 years, I can attest that the ZX-4RR, which I down-paid even before the price was known, is a dignified successor. The 4RR has gotten much less aggressive in terms of ergos compared to the ZXR400, but actually awesome for street use. And those modern brakes and fresh suspension make everything more precise and easy to ride (fast).

      It’s funny I’m a car guy, I got interested in bikes after finding out about the highest spec Honda version of that 4 cylinder 250cc Suzuki (CBR 250RR) that revs all the way to 20,000 rpm! Unfortunately it seems like those bikes have gotten quite a bit more expensive in the last few years (now they’re seen as collectors items with a cool party trick), and pair that with the maintenance and importation headaches I started looking elsewhere… Upon doing some research I found this thing, already starting to save up! I’ll hopefully get my license this summer, and wait till the winter to see if I can find one at a more reasonable price…

      The difference on highway trying to pass or split lanes if I was on the 400 going 80 there was no point in dropping to 5th gear as the power is weak that high in the rev. The difference on the 4rr would be you would have to drop 3 gears to get a strong pull.

    Awesome bike, glad they made it available. I've always been a fan of inline 4's since I started riding in the 80's. All Japanese brands had multiple size bikes and in different flavors. My first 4 cylinder was a Honda CB550 NIGHTHAWK With shaft drive and lots of chrome. It had an oil cooler but wasn't water cooled, so those 4 pipes were visible top to bottom. Back then Kawasaki was putting out the GPZ 550, and Suzuki the GS550 in that size class, soon after the 600's took over the spot and you could buy a 4 cylinder in 600, 750, 1000 from all brands plus larger sport cruiser models. I was surprised how little of them were available in the past few years compared to twins but I figured people had just moved on and didn't want them. Anyway my last bike was a 2003 FZ1 and I rode it for around 12 years before I sold it. I'm actually getting my old ass back in the saddle however and currently shopping smaller displacement bikes because I just don't need a liter bike anymore. I have had all kinds of motorcycles except the inline triple, but I'm seriously not even going to approach that 900 or so size. When I saw they were making this thing I got excited about possibly getting one, but it's nearly twice the price of the twins and around the price of the Z900, and Z900RS, I just don't think I want to spend that much for that little displacement. Here in the states we have gotten some interesting stuff over the years, but small displacement fours haven't been in the mix really. One of the first 4 cylinder bikes I ever rode was a buddies CB 350 four.. I think it was a 1973 model. Of course it was pretty slow but man did it sound good and was uniquely beautiful. Long live four bangers!

      @JCab Vlogs if you have that kind of money to spend, I think the Aprilia has just a few more features that I liked better. One being cruise control. That is a nice thing to have. It also depends on the type of riding you will do. I would also sit on both because I believe the Aprilia has a slightly more aggressive riding triangle. For a first bike though, I would hate for a new rider to drop a $10K bike on the ground while learning to ride. Personally, unless you got the money, I would look at an R3 or Ninja 400. Once you master that, then I would look into the others. Don't forget the cost of insurance too!

      On the r7 it’s definitely a more aggressive seating position, the handle bars are also lower, the seat is also slightly higher then the zx4. Also if it says its got 78hp but only 24ish footpounds of torque then its only viable to own one in America or as a track bike, as in the EU that 78 will need to be restricted down to 47hp. And having 24lbs of torque (that might actually be less after the restriction) isnt worth having over an r7 or the cbr650r which even restricted is more then 60lbs of torque each

      @Scouts Out interesting. I used to own an rgv250, most fun I ever had on a bike, especially on the twisteys, here in the UK. No big bike could match me. I might have to reevaluate my options.

    Should be interesting when the tunes for these start to come out, to unrestrict them back to EU power levels (~80 hp).
    Edit: Not that what it currently makes is bad, but I think it's a hard sell knowing we're paying the same price for significantly less power than ther rest of the world. Otherwise, I think it's a compelling package.
    Edit 2: Just to clarify for anyone who hasn't been following this bike, the docs Kawasaki submitted to the NHTSA rate it at 56 hp -- we're not getting the full 80 hp from the factory in North America.

    Congratulations, I ended up getting the 650 last year and Im jelly this came out. I wanted the 400 because of the sound, and yours sounds how I wish mine sounded. Looking at the specs it seems the 650 is just beefier on acceleration up until 90s and then I think the ZX-4Rs 4 cylinders just catch up in the 100s and gains on the 650. All in all I think the two would ride nicely together in a group ride. You said you feel like you're sitting upright kind of. I dont know if you sat on a 650 but that also sits up and is comfortable. Ive heard someone say the Kawasaki 650 and the ZX-4RR feel like Cadillacs when they go over bumps. Makes me wonder if its just a new bike feel.

      Feel like I might want to add, My first experience with bikes was dirt bikes when i was little and then a Honda Rebel 250. The Kawasaki 650 was a huge step up but I feel really comfortable on it from just having experience. 100mph though is still scary as hell. I try not to do that. Im always scared of a tank slapper and the tires it came with I'm not too crazy about.

      Thanks man I’m super excited about it. The 650 is an awesome bike too but yea the sound of the inline 4 is just amazing. I have rode the 650, i got to ride it at a demo in January, its a great bike and i made a review on it on this channel. As for the seating the 650 is more comfortable and up right than the 4rr but the 4rr isn’t crazy aggressive just a little more aggressive than the ninja 400

    • @ScoutsOut
      @ScoutsOut  Před rokem +1

My first bike was a Ninja 300 and I loved it and how flickable it was. I got a 636 a bit later and loved the sound, but I never really needed that extra power. This is exactly want I wanted.

      Then I'd recommend a P2 for more practical performance. Sometimes as sweet as that I4 note is it's not always worth it. Particularly when concerning lower displacement engines.

      @IgoByaGo Před rokem +1

      @@ThermicLight I was thinking about an XSR700…. Until I saw that we are getting this mini-beast. I prefer the i4 feedback over the p2. I’ll be able to keep this thing in second or third and it will scream like a Banshee. Speed limit is between 45-55 in the areas I’ll be at. It is Houston so most people drive 60, so I won’t be in higher gears much.
