- Men's pole vault competition from the 1993 Athletics World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany. 3 men clear 5.90m with Sergey Bubka winning the competition with a 6.00m clearance on his first attempt. His jump at 5.90 was quite possibly the highest jump in the history of the pole vault. Bubka's hip height was amazingly clear, and it would have simply become a question of depth and bar placement as to whether he would have cleared 6.20m+. After clearing 6.00m he moved the bar to 6.14m for a new world record and had 3 decent attempts at this height (one shown on this clip). It was an amazing competition with some great jumps. Enjoy the footage!

18 years later and you, sergey, still make us proud!!
4:12 It's like the matrix of sports
ONE OF MY IDOLS IS BUBKA
The slowmo at 4:10 is amazing

Thank you for uploading one of my favorite pole vault videos yet!
Bubka's vault at 5.90 was probably the highest vault in history as the graphic said, at least until last week. Duplantis cleared 6.18 with almost as much clearance as that 5.90 jump by Bubka. In fact almost every jump by Duplantis in the last two weeks has been higher than that Bubka jump in this video. Duplantis is now on another planet from anyone who has ever pole vaulted including Bubka.
Duplantis is standing on the shoulders of giants. Bubka is that giant. He’s the Babe Ruth and Michael Jordan of this sport.
@@NoahBodzedifferences did Lebron isn’t better than Jordan. Duplantis is better than Bubka
@@q12aw50 You know you just made my point, yeah?
@@NoahBodze 🤦♂️
@@q12aw50 I’m watching a stupid person trying to tell someone who isn’t that they’re not.
Read that again, stupid.
awesome clip!! thanks for uploading :)
Thanks for posting!!!!!
It's amazing how many former Soviet Union track&field-legends were Ukrainians: Valeri Borzov, Sergei Bubka, Juri Sedykh, Igor Ter-Ovanesyan, Vladimir Yashchenko, Nikolai Avilov. Not to mention those other 13 states of champions to the USSR.
from the Ukrainian Soviet Republic
tylsimys67 well there is a reason why the USSR had so many Olympic medals I can name a couple of times when the whole podium was USSR
nowt to do with performance enhanced athletes then?
Oksana Baiul!
Man...you are my all time Hero.
Sergey is the best pole vaulter ever!
Not anymore
I think the highest jump was in Athens WC when Bubka cleared 6.01 and he had almost 20-30 cm of space between him and the bar:)
GOAT
Et Renaud Lavillenie bat ce record aujourd'hui en atteignant les 6.16 m!
Bravo a Renaud d'avoir battu ce record historique! Exceptionnelle!!!
but indoor, on a hollow track
-SOMEONE who breaks bubka's record- should say: "You may have shortened the pegs but I raised the bar"
I just started pole vaulting this year as a Freshman and I really like it! I'm going 13' right now I wish I started earlier!!!
Where did you reach?
awesome! congrats! i meant no disrespect by that comment, i only cleared 9'6 as a freshman in high school! im now a 16+ vaulter from a 14 foot pole, planning on 17 next year!
Great competition
I'm just starting my high school sophomore indoor season for pole vaulting. Current pr is 11'6 as of last year, hoping to compete in state this year.
@@Javeriffic what are you up to now, 4 years later?
How about 6 years later
Where r u now?
Give us update on your life mate. haha!
Я тренировался в одной школе с Максимом Тарасовым, но за 10 лет смог лишь преодолеть 440 см.
I will post that video as well and compare them side by side. It will make for an interesting clip. Thank!
Just amazing
I started pole vaulting this year and i get that all the time
I think one of these jumps are the word record!
coaches always help, especially when you get to bending the pole, i have been teaching myself, i have just been starting to bend, does the bend just start coming or is it something you have to learn
And another amazing vault was when Bubka tried 6.16 outdoors...i don't remember the year or a place but this jump is in youtube. He didn't clear it but it was a very high vault.
Whats the thing that he falls on called?
Wow that was amazing i cant even jump 1 meter and there jumping 6 meters just amazing
Looks like he was jumping on a standard fiberglass Spirit pole. No carbon fiber. This is why Bubka will forever be the GOAT regardless if his records are broken. Only Cornelius Warmerdam can come close.
Mondo jumps on fiberglass poles?
My question is what made that particular vault superior to all of his other vaults. I feel like the time he spent training was so vast that vaulting for the large part was mostly autonomous for him. Obviously in a sport like vaulting things are always changing, but at his level where did that extra energy come from to make that such a great jump, i'm always under the impression that all of his well executed vaults are spectacular
i tend to have not enough time to vault because of weather condition, what do i do in the off season to help my vaulting in the future also in the bend do you think you need to learn to do it or does it come naturally
i like the part with the balloons
Did you see that man in the background that was doing a headstand hahaha
so epic...
Congratulations mondo!!! 6.17
the rotation effect...of course!
start of my 2nd season got just over 11 foot anyone have advice on how to get usto a heavyer pole ?
7,6" for a 7th grader is pretty decent, it puts you in that position to clear 9-11 feet as a freshmen which in our division is on the bubble of making the state championships, and as a freshman that is good.
How did you highschool career end?
These Legends must be like Special people born, God bless all the Atheletes
Hahah i love how he gets to celebrate from 4:23 to 4:28 and by that time hes probably already bored.
Great
good luck
wow alot of changes in the attire people where from the last few years
There is only one bubka..His record will only be broken if another extra ordinary talent comes and i don't when it will happen..I think bubka's record will stay on for another 50 years or more.
Dude, I just wish we had a coach...
Best!!!!!!!!
9 is okay, it a start, it may not score at championship meets, but its a good pivot point
I made 9 4 my 7th grade year;) polevault is my life
How's it going, ma'am?
Yes it is, I would be surprised if you don't get at least 10'6" next year.... this was my first season too
*now we have Mondo*
Maine class C and we are now state champions sacopee all the way! Even though I did not make 8'6 which was starting at states I was just honered to be there as a freshman!
They started at 8’6 at state? Better question you got to state with an 8’6?
thing starts at 2:02
i made 9'6 my second meet but im a junior where should that put me with summer camps and lots of off season practice?
yes, what is 10'6" in normal measurements?
i jumped exactly that hight last year when i was still 16
Mondo Duplantis smoked them all.
12'3 is decent for the state we live in and the weather we get, its just higher than my goal for sophomore year
Wow
my first season was 9' then as a sophmore was 11'6
nice
@veiko124 mind posting the link?? thanks a bunch. -6P
Lmfao, there are kids at my school that can't clear 5 feet...
and what's that in normal measurements?
Maine
Oh wow
holy cow!! where do you live??
Holy crap. The varsity mens at my high school do 12' compared to this 0.o
If these guys could emulate Yelena Isinbayeva's near flawless mechanical form we might have a 21 ft. mens vault.
wow
is anyone confused on how u train for this... like for the first time...
hey thats provisional states here in maine (idk bout any other state)
Is 9'6'' good for first season?(8th grade)
lol @ the editing
I think it helps to be a little crazy to do the pole vault. As for Sergei Bubka-that man might have some Siberian tiger DNA in his family.
hey im going to states with that height this year
20 ft 2 and 1/8 inches
how many feet is this??
1 meter = 3.2808399 feet
connor messer of raceland kentucky?
the 2 dislikes came from the 2 russians
@braveraxeblade are you in middle school?
what? to even qualify for state in MN (where I live) you'd have to vault 10'2" for girls or 13'6 for guys.
2:47 that`s probably 6.30 metres. The greatest (with Duplantis)
I'm 14 and I'm hoping by my senior year to be in the 2016
Rio Olympics.
I wish to participate in the women's pole vaulting :')
Maybe win a metal. Maybe gold 3
For now I aim for the best in the state, wish me luck guys :)
Bend will come naturally with proper technique and practice. Try to find clinics at other high schools or colleges during the off season. For instance I'm going to Central Michigan University, Fowlerville (Michigan Highschool), Flushing (Michigan Highschool) and my own school is doing a summer clinic (Linden, again in Michigan) You preferably will want to bring the pole you a going to vault with next year but most clinics will have poles you can use.
9'6" is a pretty good start but you are going to step it up next yr i hit 10' my 8th grade yr as well and now as a freshman i am at 12 ft so you will be fine!
the fuck how how!!! how!!!
My high school freshman son vaulted 12'10" this year
what state do u live in?!
Bubka would probably be unhappy with his career having only one Olympic gold when he had a long career and was a level better than everyone else
Thats because of our population even with that low of a height only 19 people made it. The bigger the population of the sport the higher the height goes so they don't have 200 people going to states.
I got second in regions with 11'6 but state opening height was 12'0 so I went but didnt make the height
Class C Maine
im doin 11 but i got an upgraded pole so ....maybe i can make it to state now!
new hampshire
I want to beat my valleys record holding at 16' 2" and hopefully by my senior year i can be at 18'(:
4:44 looks just like Robert De Niro
im at 9' feet to
is that decent for a first season
Wow. How high was the winning vault?
I feel your pain
bub KA!! bub KA!!
