and now he is european champion with unbelievable 6,05m !! I quickly became a big fan of him after seeing this miracle happen today, but after seeing this progression video I am just in complete awe ! he´s inspiring me so much, support from germany~
What impressed me is that, in many of these videos, the bar was at the top of the supports and he cleared easily. Often by 10 centimeters or more. It's like the event organizers figured no kid could possibly need to set the bar higher than this.
For any one who has vaulted, coached and or studied this sport this is a athlete that will change history in the sport for years and many athletes to come great work and dedication you deserve it all
not only can he pole vault but he can run too. he ran 10.4 in the 100 meters at his district meet this year. i was lucky enough to watch this from the field
10.4 sounds awfully fast. The women's WR is at 10.49, since 1988. Googling him, it looks like his PR is 10.57. But that was with a wind velocity of 2.1 m/s, which makes it ineligible for a record, and his second best seems to be 10.69.
I agree, it really highlights how much work and dedication it takes to be the master of your craft. And it helps to have a pole vault kit in your backyard and a world class athlete as a father ☺
In the US, most vaulters don't start when they get to high school, but in Europe, it is much more of a club sport, so many kids get earlier exposure. Can you imagine how proud his dad must be?
Anybody who wants to be a good pole vaulter has one in their backyard. I did from 6th grade through college senior year. No different from a football place-kicker having a goal post in the backyard or a basketball hoop over the garage door.
That is an unbelievable progression. Priceless video to show the grand kids. Unparalleled talent. Well deserved works record that he holds today going over 20 ft. That back flip at the end of this video was out of this world.
He literally was set up for big success as a kid. With his dad being a former successful pole vaulter, have a pole vault pit set up in his own backyard, all the tools. Especially once he hit puberty too, it really was just all uphill PRs!
For all of you that has commented on using feet -inches instead of metric ,i offer the following :1)i as an engineer i prefer the metric system , however in the USA that's what we use, 2) the 10 year progression was performed using feet-inches, 3) a standard that is used to measure young vaulters high performance in the US is to "jump your age (in feet) ", no equal metric standard, 4) all measurement after high school are reported in meters, 5) standard methods for converting feet inches to meters round DOWN losing as much as a 1/4 inch 6) we use $ and not eur etc, 7)i don't have imovie anymore to make changes, and 8) take the time to do what we do in US ,convert meters to feet inches.
And in Feb 2020 new world record holder with a 6.17 metre jump! I think he can still jump higher, and it will be many, many years before the records that he will set will be broken by anyone else. Have to update this, make that 6.18 metres!!! He just did it again in Glasgow a few days later on his first attempt! This guy is simply unbelievable.
I didn't even learn about pole vault until 10th grade, we finally got equipment and a few of us started. Had no real coach and just kinda winged it. It was fun but we were awful. My buddy and I attended Bill Faulks pole vault camp and took back what we learned, greatly improving all of our team. This was years ago, and last I heard our old school team is going strong and still has active vaulters. Even better, was recently talking with my neice, 7, who does gymnastics and told her about pole vaulting. She informed me they do a class at her gym, and she says it looks fun and wants to try. So proud lol.
Even if I'm french and proud to be (...I'm french ahah), I hope he'll have a lot of title, and probably the world record of Renaud. He's already a great champion, and even the reaction from Lavillenie at the european championship shows all the respect he have for Mondo (comparing to his reaction for Morgunov's jumps)...
That backflip tho 😂 such an inspiring vid, so happy he made it at the European Championships!!! By the way, I‘m an iceskater from Germany, so I really can just wonder about how much work he put in this sport 👍
Here in 2022 this pops up on my feed. He broke the WR last week. NBC and World Athletics had the wherewithal to pan back to show him down most of the runway. It’s really showed how fast he is. He is light, strong, fearless and still very young. He clearly is head and shoulders above the competition. By the end of his career no one should be surprised if he vaults 20’8” or dare I say 21 FEET!!!
When I was in high school (early 1970s) the best pole vaulter in the state was clearing around 15’6”. Now I’m watching someone who broke that height in 8th grade. Amazing. I’ve always loved this event, though I never could do it. (I did clear almost 4 feet messing around in practice once.😝)
Just stop buy fast food for a year and don't buy stuff like a pc or tv and you could sth like that too. You must not be rich to afford sth like that...
He broke 8 world records while I'm over here breaking my bones falling off of the bleachers
Mia Rahaman why is that me tho 😂
I saw this same post on the pole vaulting video
Hahahahahahahahahaahhhhhaahaahhaahah
Yea but most of those records were like for 12 yr olds tho
9 now
Me: *sits through whole video eating chips* can’t relate.
oh yeah yeah
Oh yeahhh yeahhh 222222 same
Me: *watches him break pole* "ha what an idiot"
Also me: *shovels more chips into mouth*
Wow literally same
Oh yeah yeah
Who’s here after he broke the world record?! It’s so amazing that he did it, but at 20? That’s insane!
Steve Arnold I'm here after he did it twice
Me too. He did 6.18 today 😁👍. As a swede my self i cant wait for the Olympics👍👍
Love to see next video in ten years summarising all the new world records. I think today's 6. 18 was close to 6.30. Amazing
Me
Im from the future when he's over 25
You really have to respect a 9:50 video.
yeah they are rare these days.
Who else clicked
I clicked it and now I'm too lazy to find my spot agin 😪
you dont 10min for ads now
And it's the short version 😑
Started pole vaulting last week and I'm watching these videos like, "You have to be kidding me."
This guy could freaking pole vault over a highway!😂
and now he is european champion with unbelievable 6,05m !!
I quickly became a big fan of him after seeing this miracle happen today, but after seeing this progression video I am just in complete awe !
he´s inspiring me so much, support from germany~
He should have tried a new world record of 6.17 m. A junior world record as overall world record would have been legendary.
What impressed me is that, in many of these videos, the bar was at the top of the supports and he cleared easily. Often by 10 centimeters or more. It's like the event organizers figured no kid could possibly need to set the bar higher than this.

Euro champion who was born and raised in the USA and then topped that off by going to LSU.
Jo An and today he made it insane
And now he has indoor wr
im 16 and I am just now clearing what he did at 9...
LMAOOO
😃
Lol
wat1243 don’t feel bad I’m barley clearing what he did at 6😬😂
Better than me I don’t even know where to start with that stuff
I’m expecting to see him at the 2020 olympics.
The rest of the world HAS TO see this🎉🎉👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Now broke the world record
Haha SIKE. Corona virus for you!
The rest of the world also has CZcams.
And now he also have the outdoor record :)
If only this comment knew what would hit in 2020 onwards
This boy can run faster than me in slo motion than I can in real life
Taryn Danae He can run faster than me - while carrying a pole. haha

You're absolutely right!

not only can he pole vault but he can run too. he ran 10.4 in the 100 meters at his district meet this year. i was lucky enough to watch this from the field

I mean, thats half of pole vaulting. The whole point is to get a lot of horizontal speed and convert it to vertical.
He's ran a wind assisted 10.57 but recently said he believe he could run a 10.4
When your 15 struggling to clear 8 feet 😂
Aaron Hardin yes😂😂
Im 13 struggling with 7 😂
when ur 14 struggling to clear five 💀 (i just started like a month ago I'm trying my best)
And struggling with grammar.
*you’re
14 struggling with 7 6
This is an incredible video... that unbelievably needs some updating.
He just did 19'1" at New Balance Nationals indoors.
He jumped 5.90 outdoors now Oo
6.05 now. O.o
6.17 today
6.18m today

And he did it again 6.18👏
It’s good to come back to this video after him beating the world record.
Congratulations 🍾
Watched him win gold at the Tokyo Olympics! Amazing athlete!!
He jumped 20’3”(6.18m) a couple weeks ago and got the WR. Absolutely outstanding, who knows what he’s gonna accomplish in the future.
He just jumped 6.21 today. insane
@@lucypagano2454 WHAT DA FUCKKK
He's over here vaulting higher then me on a hover bourd. SMH
He broke so many records 0-0
Who just saw him win gold at Tokyo 2020?
Yep! Wasn’t he amazing?
One tip: add the result in the metric system (meters and centimeters) too for viewers from the rest of the world.
They didn’t even let us start pole vault until high school in Minnesota 💀
Your dad was probably not a previous olympic pole vaulter either?
Paige Louise same for nc
Same here, probably everywhere at this point
It's middle school for us, mean im not pole vaulting just saying that's when track started

Ok but who just has a pole vault mat in their back yard...
Hi my name's Catrina ikr, this dude has crazy talent, why would he ever get a pole vault in his backyard and embrace it?
Hi my name's Catrina chill
Hi my name's Catrina I’m good. I’d rather have a conversation with you :)

Amazing I used a sweedish steel pole 1964 cleared 12'6" . This young man is amazing. I think Bob Penell held the record then . Loved watching!
*John Pennel*...1st vaulted over 17ft
This is fascinating to watch. Thank you so much for the upload.
Crazy how you can determine your life just to one specific discipline
@Milwaukee Mayhem if he didn't want to be doing it, he'd never have gotten this good
And even crazier how people can 'determine their lives' to the same boring job for 50 years too, eh?

This is spectacular. What an inspiration. I’m so proud of him.
Fantastic video. Well done Mondo on becoming European Champion. Great to see Renaud keeping watch on future rivals all those years ago.
When Athletics use the simple metric system and you put imperial measurements ONLY 🤔
Enough to make me give the video a dislike
@@VeganBeerMonster no
@@jesusthe15th yes
Why the frick does he use the imperial system for a sport that uses the metric system
Because Mondo is American and his school records are in imperial units.
He cleared 14’7 at 13 with ease
Peyton Martin he cleared everything with ease
Awesome stuff .. Well done. well deserved and congratulations to all involved with your NEW WORLD RECORD - 6.17m
Great video, well put together
No wonder he's so good, I mean, he was basically born with a pole in the hand.

I've been at a meet that he was jumping at. I pole vault too but sadly I wasn't jumping that meet
Just imagine all the things he could vault over.
Nice job son and dad! You make a great team!
Mondo is in another universe! This level of lift production requires a lifetime of focused effort and dedication.
He literally was set up for big success as a kid. With his dad being a former successful pole vaulter, have a pole vault pit set up in his own backyard, all the tools. Especially once he hit puberty too, it really was just all uphill PRs!
yup, it's a function of privilege, most parents won't set up a track or pole vault in the backyard to make their child a star
@John Ames that's not a privilege, his dad worked hard for that, all the coaching and the tools that he provided for his son
And now he holds the indoor world record of 6.17 meters, insane.
