KEN speedrun NEW World Record on HARDEST - 7m41s - www.speedrun.com/sf2hf?h=Arca...
I also have the world record with RYU on HARDEST (8m25s) - • RYU Speedrun NEW World...

Overall a decent Ken run on the hardest difficulty. Guile fight was quite average. The run could be improved by about 10-20 seconds, but I didn't want to spend more time on it. I will do the run again if anybody beats this time. My goal was to get a sub 8 time.
I'm using the Qanba Obsidian fightstick. - Hry
*Q: Why is the game running so fast?*
A: This is how it runs on MAME and only MAME is accepted on speedrun.com
*Q: Why are some names different? M.Bison is Vega, etc... ? Why am I speedrunning the Japanese version?*
A: This is the original Japanese version and these are the original names the game was designed with. Detailed explanation available on en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M._Bison - check the paragraph "Conception and development".
A: The cutscene between fights happens faster on the Japanese version and the speedruns can be 15-20 seconds faster than the US version.
I also have the official WORLD RECORD with RYU on HARDEST difficulty (8m25s) - czcams.com/video/A-aAJX-36Yc/video.html

Do you have a video commentary of this, explaining why you do certain things and what your thinking as you did these inputs? That would be incredible. Thanks for sharing!
@@Double-X2-Points I don't have a video commentary of it, sorry. I'm not sure if people would actually care for anything like that. Some probably would, but the vast majority, probably not. Hella dumb.

The punch sound effect from this game never gets old.
It sounds so raw. Besides the sound of a fierce or a fireball hitting someone, this is also my favorite "shoryuken" sound; like they're stressing their throat.

Never let Ken into a car dealership ...
Or into the strategic oil barrel reserve
What u did to sagat in that 2nd round deserves the respect of eveRy SF2 player from 92.....we salute you for avenging us
Thank you for watching and commenting, much appreciated! ;)
Gave him a second giant scar across his chest and took his other eye.
CPU Claw was harder than CPU Sagat, change my mind
So therapeutic to watch someone absolutely SMOKE the cheating the computer the way it used to screw so many of us back in the day. It's like being Loki watching the Hulk rag-doll Thor into the floor. Almost gets me shouting "THAT'S HOW IT FEELS!!"
Oh yeah, we've all been on the receiving end of the cheat machine, many times. It always feels good to dish out some payback ;) Thanks for watching and commenting!
I couldn't agree more, this cheating bastard game is getting what it deserves.
That car didn't stand a chance.
The car? Look at the flaming drums, they got demolished.
The car must defeat Sheng Long first
Imagine what he’d do to a Tesla today😂

"Ohhhhh my Go-o-o-o-od!"
8:07 - Ken even speed run his marriage! 🤣 🤣 🤣
Lol. This is one of those videos where if you press 'skip' at any point you'll miss an entire fight.

I remember about 30 years ago, spending about 2 months daily playing Street Fighter 2 Turbo on the SNES to beat the game on the hardest difficulty with Ryu without losing a round - all it said at the end was “You have Mastered Ryu!” For you to do this so effortlessly, it seemed, is truly amazing! 🙏🏾
I know what you mean, I've been there as well. We all gotta start somewhere. It gets easier and easier the more you play and I just played A LOT.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
About 30 years ago I completed SF2: the world warrior on SNES with Chun Li on the hardest setting. Was SO proud lol, it wasn't easy. Didn't know any combos or anything like that either. And had a massive crush on her 'cause I was young but well, I kinda still do lol (I play SFV and main Sakura ATM, loved her fighting style since the Alpha games, most fun of all the shotos, she's super enthusiastic and cool)
@@deviouxFGChey you should do speed runs with all the fighters. If you do I’m new to you and do t know.
Same kind of thing for me. 4 months seeing if i could finish it without losing a single round while playing casually.
@@petegeralis7076 I don't have the time do that, unfortunately. I really like Chun Li, Zangief, Guile, Vega, Sagat and Bison but I'm average with them and I prefer to do rather high-level speedruns using the characters I'm good with (Ken/Ryu).
"what is your occupation?"
Ken: "Shoryuken"
This had me laughing for 5 minutes straight.
Great run well done on the WR! The jump in strong punch, standing strong, strong dp combo is a killer
It's a very good combo, indeed, one of the best in the entire game. Thank you for watching and commenting!
I do like the 'jump in strong punch, standing strong, light dragon punch (looks better and doesn't leave you hanging) or jump in strong punch, medium crouched kick into light dragon punch. (Medium knee into light dragon is a good look too)
In the Japanese games, the boxer was M Bison, the Spanish guy was Balrog and the final boss was Vega. For western markets, there was an issue with ‘M Bison’ and Mike Tyson. So they swapped the names around a bit.
He was already in Street Fighter for Mike (the boxer). (Heavyweight boxer Mike spent some time in prison)
Yeah, the original names feels weird to me. Kinda glad they switched them lol
Thanks, I thought I’d misremember my childhood!
July 6th 1995 I attempted this with Sagat.. After 92 losses to M. Bison I had him down to a sliver of heath in the 3rd round and he hadn't landed a hit.. Two head stomps and a few psycho crushers followed by a throw led to my TV somehow getting cracked by a drinking glass that miraculously flew from my hands..
Oh I know that feeling. Many times I wanted to smack the arcade machine and the only thing holding me back was knowing I'd get permabanned if I did ;)
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Sai-kyou-crrruSshhh-ahhh
Maybe if you hadn't been playing with a drink in your hand you'd have done better...
The arcade I played at used to rig the game by somehow having access to a setting that didn't show the opponent's health. You could defeat the opponent but you never knew how much health it had.
@@komodosp 😂😂
I remember just about every takeaway shop had street fighter 2 back in the mid 90s.
We sunk many coins into those machines 😂
We only had one good arcade place in my city where there were legit cabinets. There were some pool halls and bars which had them as well, but they were trashed.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
We had a takeaway with a few machines, next to it was a dairy with couple more then a butcher next to the dairy followed by a 4 square. the 4 square had a separate area to the shop with a few machines too lol Was weird having a dairy and 4square 6 metres apart but was cool asf having street fighter in each shop. our area in AKL was overrun with spacie machines, even had a hairdesser with SFII lol

Congrats on the WR. This is probably my favorite version of street fighter 2. Something about it just hits different. I love the sound effects on the fierce hits.
SF2 is something special, for sure. Only good memories related to it. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I love when they barf when you hit them hard enough, and when they can double barf when you land a two hit fierce, like dhalsims headbutt 😂
Yeah. The sound effects were great. Much better than in sf2ce. You could feel the power. After this, in ssf2, the effects just got gay.

Yea, but I could have done it a bit better, got a bit unlucky there.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Some 30 years ago at a friend's house (who had a snes), we pulled an all-nighter to beat the game in the hardest difficulty. You did it much faster than me. Congrats!
Yea, I remember the struggles, good times tho, good times. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Just learned I could throw in an extra punch in the jump punch/shoryuken combo...
I learned it could be done very late (after 1 year of playing sf2 turbo) and it completely changed my experience with the game. Never played any other character than ken after that.
Note that I found the timing very tight and often did the simpler version with just crouching HP DP without the jump in
Imagine walking into the arcade and watching this guy finish SF2 in 7 mins all on a single 60c credit.
That would have been a very rare sight back in the day. We would try to maximize the gameplay time of every coin as much as possible :)
Thanks for watching and commenting!
And the arcade game downright cheats. Blanka laid one finger on him and it cost him 1/3 of his like bar.
@@OliveiraX Oh the CPU is legit programmed to cheat. And in a way it kind of makes sense. If it wouldn't cheat, then people would quickly figure out ways to beat it consistently, which means the arcade places would lose lots of money. You can still beat it consistently, but not if you're an average player, you'll need to put in a lot of quarters to get there ;)
60 cents? I remember when this was a quarter or 2 nickels at the nickel arcade
….guiles suplex still stressing me out 30 years on
the hit into shoryuken combo is just a force to be reakoned with. i could never execute it so flawlessly, g'job!
Yes, it's a very good, classic combo. It requires a lot of repetition for the execution, even I still fail it every now and then. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I don't really know how difficult it is because I don't play the game. I also don't know why CZcams recommend this. But here I comment to help the algorithm. Nice run btw
Thank you for the support, much appreciated!
It's... Super hard
It tooks me like 40 try to beat Sagat on my Genesis at every run, for months
@@damienlg4281 I'll have you know that the arcade version on the hardest setting is insanely harder than the Genesis version on the hardest setting, the CPU cheats a lot
This game is a bad influence on children. After I played this I tried to beat up a car and got injured 🙃
You people have to stop blaming cars for stuff like this. Your using fierce punch waaaaay to often and burning your knuckles out.
In South Africa, we used to think that Ken/Ryu said "Allyouget," "Atooget" and "Hutkutfooget" for "Shoryuken," "Hadouken* and "Tatsumaki Senpou Kyakku" respectively 🤭
30 years later, this game still impressed the hell out of me. Everything about it is perfect.

Sure, the only part that make sense in a speedrun is to quickly destroy the last barrels...like he did it.
Watching those inputs is insane. You make it look soo easy.

Nice. Will you be doing other challenges? Such as never getting hit? Or some other challenge?
Sorry to disappoint, but at the moment I think I'm done with SF2. If any of my runs get beat, I might try to reclaim them, but otherwise I will most likely be playing SF6 for quite a while, I like it too much and it's a big challenge for me to try and become skilled in that game.
Thanks for watching and for the support!
That Gief fight is exactly what I do, Great Job
Oh nice! It's a pretty reliable strat, yea. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Yeah, same. It was super gratifying to see that my instinct to jump straight up and kick on Zangief is what the pros do to. Just way better lol. GG.
Man I was good, real good with SF2, would use same combos and finishes with ease. This is next level. your timing on moves to bait them to trigger their moves are flawless.
I practiced this run quite a bit. I did around 1k attempts to get it. The more you do it, the better your timings get. Thanks for the kind words. It's good to see once in a while someone who actually understands what's going on.
Congrats on the WR! I've only played SF2T in SNES and for years I thought it was a console only version as I never saw it on arcades. Used to love to play with Chun as she now has a full-screen fireball and an air Spinning Bird Kick (that was mosltly useless, but cool to execute lol).
I played only in arcades. Nobody had console here, it was a luxury item back then :) Chun is a very good character, especially if you can master her, can be very problematic.

@@deviouxFGC I didn't have SNES either. Too expensive in my country. But we used t have stores that we could play by the hour and that was my go to point after school almost everyday lol.
@@felipeqfdesouza Oh I know what you mean exactly. We had those stores as well where you could play on Playstation by the hour, but that was too expensive for me :) I could get like 15 coins at the arcade and play all day for the price of one hour on the Playstation. Good times, good memories!
Man, I spent a couple hours every day after school playing this game. The idea that it could be beaten in less than 10 minutes would’ve blown my 12 year old mind!
It can't in a real arcade machine
Is such a performance only possible using an arcade gamepad? Or is it possible to get at least close to it using a SNES or X-box-type gamepad?
It is possible with any kind of controller, especially gamepad, any kind of gamepad. It is possible even with a keyboard. You just have to be able to execute moves and combos correctly. Playing A LOT is what is most important, not the controller. Choose whatever controller you like and whatever controller you can execute moves and combos with.
I have at least 20k hours on SF2 and I prefer arcade stick, but if you play 20k hours on keyboard, you will be very good on keyboard and if you play 20k hours on gamepad, you will be very good on gamepad. You can be very good even with 2-3k hours, every person is different, some people learn faster than others, some people are more talented than others, but the key to success is playing A LOT, with whatever controller you can execute moves and combos.
@@deviouxFGC 20k hours is insane! Congrats! Maybe one day I get there too.
Damn!!!💢😲
I love how each fight is subtly different. I’m sure that nearly everything in this video is intentional, and that makes it even more interesting to watch you dismantle each fighter!
Yes, sir, good eye. There's a different strategy for the CPU on every fight and pretty much everything you see is intentional, indeed. I did make some mistakes as well, but what can you do ;)
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Nice to see the triple fierce 2 in one combos I was legendary for in the UK scene nearly 30 years ago :D. There's a faster way to complete the game with Guile as his double sonic boom combo is a redizzy, it requires mad timing though.
Good times, good times. Hitting the triple combo always felt special. I'm pretty bad with Guile. I can play him cheesy in 1v1, but not fast vs the CPU :) Not sure if it would be faster than Ken though. Ken just destroys everybody.
Cheers for watching and commenting!
Parabéns!
Man Sagat was holding back. I can’t even approach him on normal difficulty. Soon as I go for jump kick tiger upper cut, if I stay back, tiger all day! Good job!!
Well, he can definitely be a pain in the ass, but he has some predictable patterns. Also keep in mind that what you see here is just one successful attempt. What you don't see is like a thousand failed attempts ;)
Thanks for watching and commenting!
There are two kind of gamers in the world: the ones that have beaten Sagat and the others.
Do you use one button short keys for manoeuvres or go through the whole forward down forward punch for dragon punch etc..
I'm not sure what you mean by "one button short keys". I pretty much do the "standard" full motion every time, with some variations here and there, depending on the situation. For example, I might do down-forward > down or down-back > down-forward (which is also a valid DP motion). Or forward > down > down-forward (another valid DP motion).
Watching your Ken is like watching the computer Ken when it gets really pissed off.
All this fight just to get married
Ken : Real fight just start
That's good! And very true. I like it :)
Great run!

I just read the pinned comment. That’s crazy! I’ve been playing these games since they were coin operated ( the best ) and never saw a Japanese version.
@@jakecregeen6667 Japanese boards were not available outside of Japan. I also did not know about it until I started doing these speedruns and I saw that other runs were done on the Japanese version. I played on the US version growing up, it's the one I'm used to the most.
Long story short, the American versions messed up three character's names and unfortunately they stuck.
wasn't it also about the controversies about the real life Mike Tyson coming into play here (i might be wrong on that) and so they fixed it by swapping names as a quick and dirty fix?
Anyhow, obviously the initial japanese names fit much better even though it is against our collective "muscle memory" if you can call it that.

Who’d you consider the toughest AI opponent where most could possibly go wrong?
It might look that way because I've probably done around a thousand attempts to get this run :) Eventually, you kind of get to know what's going to happen in most fights.
The toughest and most volatile AI would be Honda and Blanka. That's why I prefer to have them first. When they're first, sometimes they have patterns which are easier to deal with.

Used to love throwing Guile into the box and Ken into the barrel 😂
If this is the mame version, does it correspond to the snes version of the game? Frankly I remember the cpu was parrying much more at the highest difficulty.
The arcade version is harder than the snes version. It's designed to take your quarters. The snes version is designed for home entertaiment. There are many similarities overall, but in general, arcade is harder. The CPU will block or counter a lot more if you just do random stuff, but it's not going to block "everything". If you know its patterns and you know the scenarios, you can force and generate situations where it won't block. I know its patterns very well and I know pretty much all the scenarios. I have at least 20k hours or gameplay time on SF2. Also, this speedrun has been verified and approved on speedrun.com by knowledgeable admins.
