@@illsaytfiwant2936 you are correct. But, people are dumb and don't realize the actual purpose of these filters. It does not advertise as a water softener. It's only purpose is for chlorine. That is it and nothing else.

Well it's not really a water softener... It's a water filter. It's suppose to remove Chlorine from the water which is what does the most damage to the hair and skin. You can't really soften your water without salt.
Purpose of shower filter is to remove chlorine. Carbon filters are pretty good at removing many things, but not good at reducing TDS. Your tap water TDS rating is surprisingly low to begin with. TDS meters measure electrical conductivity (minerals).
You are measuring parts per million for a shower filter. That filter just removes the chlorine, you aren't supposed to drink from it. You are probably just measuring the carbon particles that came loose out of the filter that are floating around in the water (which is harmless). This test makes no sense. If you want to test this filter's effectiveness, you should test the chlorine content, not the particles in the water.

This test does not make sense as it is measuring the total solids dissolved in water and the unit is ppm. The percentage of chlorine ion in ppm is very small compared to all other salts. This water filter just removes the chlorine ions, not other salts that remain in the water. There will be a very small change in ppm by removing the chlorine and it cannot be detected by this TDS meter.
their website stated AquaSorb™ HX coconut shell carbon reduces chlorine and synthetic chemicals KDF 55 PROCESS MEDIA copper/zinc blend further reduces chlorine and enhances pH
just trying to understand.. your tap water is at 76 ppm means your tap water is already good quality. What do you expect this filter to do to your water? I live in London where the water is about 300-350 ppm hard, if I use here then it should take out some hardness of water for sure.
lol dude total dissolvable solids is not measuring anything specific....get something that measures Cl or Lead or IDK a specific thing youre trying to avoid. The filter is made of carbon...there are particles in that....idk. also maybe read about water testing more? Just a thought.
Dude I just did the same thing with the exact same water tester and then Realized I’m not testing for the same things my drinking water filter filters. If you look up what your actually doing and testing I think you’ll find you’re testing for the wrong substances.
I'm guessing shower filters do not remove tds ??? I just bought one and mine is reading 356 same as the tap water. However my water filter is reading zero.
Hmmm idk if that product is good or not (never had a shower filter), but what I know is that those products are not made for water to become softer. That test you use, I see it often used in pitcher water filters like zerowater (and tbh they lie to their customers by giving them that « test » kit to prove water has changed). It turns out that zerowater does change water by eliminating even good minerals……… And people love it as they don’t understand how it works. Wanting very soft water is bad for the health & if no minerals at all, it is called « dead water » meaning you lose calcium, magnesium etc. You also lose anti oxydants helping fight cancers etc (drinkable water). That test does not show at all if some chemicals were removed or not. For example, here in Montreal where I live, the only problem I have with my tap water is lead from pipes. Nsf 53 certification products allow me to filter that toxic lead. I am not expecting something else though. So it is pretty normal that your hardness won’t change much with a simple soft water filter. And I am pretty sure the product is not sold for that purpose.
I personally love that zerowater removes everything. What good is a filter that lets contaminants through? I get all the calcium, potassium, magnesium, sodium I need from my diet. If you don't, you can always buy supplements. At least then you know what you're consuming, and it's not poisonous.
What did you mean when you said zero water does not change the water? Looks like it removes a lot of contaminants not as much as pur filters do though. I feel like this is such a crap shoot i dont know what to so now or buy because pur fiters are made in mexico and out of stock bc of covid the company said they dont know when the filters will be back in stock. Ugg. I want drinking water that is safe. Considered aquasana countertop filter that attaches to sink or a distiller but dont want to plug it in every night so i dont know
It removes municipal treatment Chemicals like Chlorine ...it works buy them !! I used these for over a decade. Got to have it or the ladies hair gets brittle and falls out These are not water purifiers or distiller's that removes the mineral hardness of the water,
That meter isn’t for this or even filtered water, if you bring the temp of the water down it will also lower the number, know how to use the meter first and what it is for.
Where do you live? Your tap water is actually fairly soft at 76 ppm. I wish I had that, my tap water is around 250ppm which is well below the 500ppm EPA limit. Not to mention, these shower filters are not water softeners. You would have to get their whole house system. I Think you have misunderstood the purpose of these filters.
